DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR SNAPPED AND IS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE ARM ROTATING ARM. VISOR IS HANGING LOOSE ONLY BY MATERIAL AND CAUSES A VISIBILITY ISSUE. IT WILL NO LONGER REMAIN IN A STORED POSITION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLOWER FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN RAINY WEATHER. THE DEALER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,100.
THE ARMS OF THE MOTOR MOUNT ARE DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE HEAVILY AT A STOPPED POSITION OR EVEN STALL WHEN VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE WITH THE BRAKE SLIGHTLY RELEASED. MY PREVIOUS 1999 CAMRY HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED, IN AUGUST 2011, ONE OF THE ARMS ON MY 2009 CAMRY DUE TO CRACKS IN THE MOUNT YET THE ISSUE IS RE-OCCURRING AGAIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND WENT TO PUT SUN VISOR DOWN AND IT JUST BROKE NO WARNING OR ANYTHING. I DID NOT EVEN PULL HARD. JUST NORMAL USE AND IT OBSTRUCTED MY VIEW. AS IT WAS JUST DANGLING IN MY FACE WOULD NOT STAY UP TOWARDS THE WINDOW. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THEY SAID THERE HAS BEEN SOME OTHERS HAVING SAME ISSUE BUT, THERE HASN'T BEEN ANYONE THAT HAS GOTTEN HURT OR THEY HAVE NOT MADE ALOT OUT OF IT. THEY WANT ME TO SPEND 110.00 JUST FOR PART WHICH IS FAULTY PART. *TR

DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISORS BOTH SPLIT ON TOP WITHIN 1 WEEK OF EACH OTHER. VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. *TR
WITH TOYOTA T-SB-0094-11, TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OIL CONSUMPTION IN A HANDFUL OF CAR MODELS. THEY HAVE SET THE BAR HIGH IN ORDER TO GET THE REPAIR COVERED, EITHER UNDER THE NORMAL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM GETS WORSE AS TIME GOES ON, SO MOST CARS WILL NOT EXPERIENCE ISSUES UNTIL THEY ARE NEAR OR PASSED THEIR WARRANTY MILEAGE. A SERIES OF OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS IS REQUIRED, BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE, THEY DO NOT MAKE SURE THE OIL IS NOT OVER FULL. I HAVE HAD TWO TESTS THUS FAR, AND BOTH TIMES THEY HAVE OVERFILLED MY OIL BY ~0.5 QUARTS. *TR
WHEN DRIVING VERY SLOWLY, THERE IS A CLICKING OR RATTLING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. THE CAR HAS 55,000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE CAUSE AS A WARN "INTERMEDIATE SHAFT." THEY ARE REPLACING IT AT A COST OF $550, PARTS AND LABOR. THE DEALER SAID THAT IN TIME THIS WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING SINCE 1956. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS PART HAS FAILED OUT OF 16 CARS WE HAVE OWNED. ALL HAVE HAD MANY MORE MILES ON THEM THIS TOYOTA. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IT SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO RECALL AND FREE REPAIR.
CAR USED MOSTLY ON HIGHWAYS, SO BRAKES NOT USED TOO MUCH, SLOW DOWN MORE USING CRUISE CONTROL. 07.25.2011, AT 32,600 MILES, RIGHT REAR BRAKEPADS WERE COMPLETELY GONE AND START GRINDING ON DISC. THREE DAYS BEFORE THAT THIS CAR WAS INSPECTED FOR 30,000 MILES AND REAR BRAKEPADS WERE AT 4 MM. SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THEY DIDN'T INSPECT THE BRAKEPADS THREE DAYS BEFORE BECAUSE I DID NOT BOUGHT THE TIRE ROTATION, SO THEY JUST "VISUALLY INSPECT" AND FILL THE PAPER WITH NUMBERS JUST TO BE FILLED. 09.17.2011, AT 34,400 MILES, BRAKEPADS REPLACED AGAIN FOR NOISE AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDALS WHICH HAD ALSO SLIGHTLY VIBRATION DURING RELEASING. THIS NOISE CONTINUE ALL THE TIME AFTER THAT, EVEN AFTER THIS BRAKEPAD REPLACEMENT. 10.10.2013, AT 61,400 MILES, SAME RIGHT REAR BRAKEPADS WERE COMPLETELY GONE AFTER VISUALLY INSPECTION DONE DURING TIRE ROTATION AND THOSE BRAKE PADS WERE IN GOOD SHAPE 2-3 MONTHS BEFORE. SERVICE ADVISOR TRIED TO SELL ME MANY OTHER THING INSTEAD TO PAY ATTENTION TO MY CONCERN ABOUT CAMRY'S, AND STATED REAR BRAKEPADS LIFE IS 30,000 MILES, WHICH I BELIEVE IS NOT TRUE. 10.27.2013, AT 62,000 MILES, DURING THE TRIP ON MOUNTAIN PARKWAY ROAD WHEN I USE CAR BRAKE ALL THE TIME, SAME RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEGUN TO MAKE CONTINUOUS NOISE 10-15 SECOND AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WAS HOT, THE OTHER WHEEL HAVE NORMAL TEMPERATURE. 11.04.2013, AT 62,900 WENT BACK TO TOYOTA SERVICE AND THEY FOUND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE (WHICH THEY STATED IS COMBINED WITH REAR PEDAL BRAKE SYSTEM) CABLE TOO TIGHT AND ADJUSTED. I BELIEVE I PAID THE BRAKEPADS TWICE AND ROTORS ONCE BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS AND WANT YOU BACK FOR MORE MONEY, FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE, AND BECAUSE TOYOTA CAR RELIABILITY IS JUST A STORY. I READ HERE MORE SCARY ISSUE WITH REAR BRAKES AT HIGH SPEED AND I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE SUN VISOR IN 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE HANGS IN FACE WHILE DRIVING.IN THE DOWN POSITION AND WOULD NOT STAY SECURED IN THE "UP" POSITION, IT THEN CAME OFF BRACKET AND COULD BE SEEN THROUGH THE UPHOLSTERY. DUE TO THE MAJOR OBSTRUCTION OF VISION IT HAD TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE VISOR TO PREVENT WRECKING. THE BLACK METAL HINGE ALLOWING THE VISOR TO "FLIP" CRACKED THE PLASTIC TUBE LIKE PIECE AT THE TOP OF THE VISOR CAUSING IT TO STAY DOWN AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD. *TT
MAVIS SAID THAT STRUTS ARE LEAKING.. WENT TO TOYOTA THEY SAID IT IS SWEATING. MY MECHANIC SAID THEY SHOULD REPLACE STRUTS UNDER WARRANTY THEY ARE DEFINITELY LEAKING. THEY REFUSE TO DO IT. CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX AND REPLACE THREE STRUTS. MY MECHANIC SAID HE IS REPLACING A LOT OF CAMRY STRUTS BECAUSE THEY ARE DEFECTIVE.
I HAVE CAMRY 2009. IT CURRENTLY HAS 34400 MILES. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA DEALER - AFTER A TECHNICIAN TESTS DRIVE THE VEHICLE - THE ISSUE IS DESCRIBED "DOWNSHIFT ISSUE UNDER HEAVY BRAKE". BELOW IS DETAILS OF THE PROBLEM. AFTER I APPLY BRAKE AT STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED BUT THEN VEHICLE IS STILL JUMPING UP - MOVING UP JUST RIGHT AFTER IT STOPS. BELOW IS HOW TOYOTA RESPONDS ON THE ISSUE. ON AUGUST 5TH, 2011, I BRING THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN IS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND OPEN A CASE NUMBER REPORTING TO GST (GULF STATE TOYOTA). I HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN APPOINTMENT WITH GST AND TOYOTA DEALER UNTIL 8/30/2011. ON AUGUST 31ST, I BROUGHT THE CAR IN 2ND TIME SO THAT THE DEALER CAN COLLECT MORE INFORMATION AND SEND TO GST (ACCORDING TO THE DEALER). THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE LAST TIME. BUT THEY WILL NEED TO RE-PROGRAM (SOFTWARE) ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM SO THAT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM CAN RE-LEARN THE SHIFTING PATTERN OF THE TRANSMISSION. HERE IS MY OPINIONS. I AM NOT CONVINCED AT ALL THIS WILL RE-SOLVE THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE MIGHT APPEAR AGAIN ANY TIME. HERE ARE SOME MORE FACTS. DURING THE WAITING TIME - 3 WEEKS - I DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THE DEALER CERTAINLY DOES NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE LONG ENOUGH BEFORE THEY CAN SEE THE ISSUE AGAIN. WHEN I DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON THE 2ND TIME, I SEE IT HAPPENS TWICE. THIS KIND OF ISSUE ABSOLUTELY MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS WHEN I HAVE TO APPLY BRAKING. I HOPE TOYOTA CAN ROOT CAUSE THIS ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WHO KNOWS THIS ISSUE CAN BE WORST AND TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROLS ONE DAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND IT HAD TO BE DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPUTER. THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED AND THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO FAIL WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,629.
I AM WRITING ABOUT THE PREVALENT PROBLEM OF LEAKING STRUTS OR SHOCKS ON THE 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT 47,000 MILES AND WAS TOLD THAT ONE OF MY STRUTS IS LEAKING, AND IT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $339 TO FIX IT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEE LODGED ABOUT THIS SITUATION. *TR
APPROX. A YEAR AND A HALF AFTER PURCHASING 2009 CAMRY ( NEW ) NOTICED DASHBOARD BECOMING TACKY / STICKY PRACTICALLY AT POINT OF MELTING. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THERE'S NOTHING THEY COULD DO. AFTER SEEING REPORT ON NEWS 7/29/14, I NOW AM HAPPY TO SEE THAT WE AREN'T THEY ONLY CONSUMERS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 55 MPH. AS THE DRIVER WAS ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE, THE VEHICLE CRASHED AND FLIPPED THREE TIMES BEFORE LANDING IN A DITCH. THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND A REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE DRIVER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSIPTAL VIA AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY DEEMED THE VEHICLE AS BEING DESTROYED. I WAS HAVING EXTREME VIBRATION ON MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY WHEN DRIVING OVER 65 MPH ON SOME STATE INTERSTATE. THIS HAPPENED MOST NOTICEABLY WHEN REACHING SPEEDS OF OVER 60 MPH, AND THE TIRES WERE LITERALLY SKIPPING OFF THE ROAD WHEN BREAKING AND YOU WOULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A CRASH CAUSING A DEATH. THIS IS ON A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THIS WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES, AND IT WAS FINALLY ADDRESSED. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A TSB ON MY SITUATION. THEY LIED. 3. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND DUE TO DEFECT IN MATERIALS USED BY TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION, THAT THERE WAS PREMATURE WARPAGE ON THE BRAKE ROTORS. ALSO THE DEALERSHIP REALIZED TOYOTA PUT OUT A TSB -0169-9 ON JUNE 4 2009. YET WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE AND SPECIFICALLY ASKED IF THERE WAS A TSB FOR BRAKE ROTORS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. SAID NO. BUT THIS WAS NOT PRESENTED TO ME UNTIL AFTER MY CAR WENT OVER 36K MILES. MY CAR HAS 37.7K MILES. YET I TOOK MY CAR IN AT 35K MILES, AND THIS WAS NOT FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE REFUSED TO EVEN ADDRESS MY PROBLEM, AND TOLD ME THERE WERE NO TSB BULLETINS OUT ON THIS AND I SPOKE TO [XXX] AT TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE, AND EVEN WHEN I CALLED IN AUGUST THEY TOLD MY THERE WERE NOT TSB BULLETINS. TOYOTA HAS A SERIOUS ISSUES WITH THEIR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS THAT CAN CAUSE THE TIRES TO LEAVE THE ROAD WHEN BRAKING. I HAVE ALSO CALLED TOYOTA OVER A YEAR AGO ABOUT THIS AND THEY DENIED THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG. NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BECAUSE TOYOTA FAILED TO NOTIFY ME AND MY DEALER.THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL INVESTIGATION AS THIS CAN LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND EVEN CAUSE DEATH. I FOUND OUT MY CAMRY LE 2009 HAD LEAKING OIL ON ALL 4 STRUTS NEAR 40000 MILES. IT MUST HAVE BEEN LEAKING BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED BUT DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL AN OIL CHANGE AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. I CALLED TOYOTA AND LET THEM KNOW DURING THE SUMMER OF 2012, BUT THE TOYOTA CALL CENTER TOLD ME THAT THEY NEVER HAD A COMPLAINT WITH THE STRUTS. NOW MY CAR IS OVER 64000 MILES AND I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS WEB SITE TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT. TOYOTA SHOULD DO THE RECALL. I AM THE ONLY DRIVER OF MY CAR AND I RARELY HAVE ANY PASSENGERS IN MY CAR AND USE THE CAR FOR GOING TO WORK ON A MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING COURSE. TOYOTA SHOULD DEFINITELY HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS SINCE I'VE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE LEAKING STRUTS. *TR

THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, IT STARTED RAINING SO I TURNED ON THE WIPERS, THEY WORKED. THE RAIN SLOWED AND I TURNED THE WIPERS OFF. WHEN IT STARTED TO RAIN HARDER AGAIN I TURNED THE WIPER SWITCH BACK TO ON- THE WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK. WE'VE HAD TOYOTA CHECK THEM OUT ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM. YESTERDAY, NOV. 22, 2013 AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, IT BEGAN TO RAIN. I TURNED THE SWITCH ON, AND THE WIPERS WOULD WORK ONLY INTERMITTENTLY, THEN THEY QUIT WORKING ALTOGETHER. 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HAD A UNCONTROLLED SUDDEN ACCELERATION INCIDENT WHILE MY WIFE, DAUGHTER, 9 WEEK OLD GRANDSON, AND TWO NIECES WERE IN THE CAR. SHE WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN WHEN THROTTLE LOCKED ON FULL POWER. MY WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT DID SLOW CAR TO MUCH SO SHE PLACED IN NEUTRAL, COASTING INTO A SHOPPING AS THE ENGINE KEPT RACING. SHE CHECK THE FLOOR MAT BUT NO PROBLEM THEN STOMPED THE THROTTLE A COUPLE OF TIME UNTIL THE ENGINE RPM RETURNED TO NORMAL. SHE THEN PLACE THE CAR IN DRIVE THEN PARKED THE CAR INTO A PARKING STALL. SHE RECALLED THE SMELLING ORDER HOT ENGINE AND HOT BRAKES. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME AND IS BEING TAKEN TO TOYOTA 05/09/11 FOR INSPECTION AS INSTRUCTED BY SERVICE ADVISOR. *TR

WHEN INSTALLING MY RADIAN80SL WITH SUPERLATCH, I CHECKED FOR MOVEMENT AT THE BELT PATH AND THE SUPERLATCH STRAPS VERY EASILY LOOSENED. MORE THAN ONE ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO GET AN ACCEPTABLE INSTALL USING THE SUPERLATCH, BUT IT LOOSENED EACH TIME, LEAVING MORE THAN 1" OF MOVEMENT AND AN UNACCEPTABLE INSTALL. I DO NOT FEEL MY CHILD WOULD BE SAFELY PROTECTED BY THIS SEAT IN THE EVENT OF A CAR ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET AN ACCEPTABLE INSTALL USING THE SEAT BELT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN SKJP FOR NOT ISSUING A RECALL ON THIS PRODUCT, AS IT IS NOT SAFE. I HAVE HEARD NUMEROUS OTHER REPORTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. PAYING OVER $200 FOR A CAR SEAT TO KEEP MY CHILD SAFE, I DO NOT EXPECT TO GET A DEFECTIVE AND UNSAFE PRODUCT. BEING ABLE TO RF TO 45 POUNDS, RF TETHER AND BE ABLE TO FIT 3 ACROSS WITH THIS SEAT ARE GREAT FEATURES BUT ARE WORTHLESS IF THE SEAT ISN'T SAFELY INSTALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,300.

ON WEDNESDAY, 2/16/11, AT 4:50 P.M. I WAS TRAVELING DOWN SUDBURY STREET IN BOSTON, MA TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO CONGRESS STREET IN BOSTON. I CAME DOWN THE HILL AND STOPPED AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. MY CAR, FOR NO APPARENT REASON, BEGAN TO RACE AND WOULD NOT STOP. I APPLIED MORE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED THE CAR INTO PARK. TWO OF THE FOUR STRUTS ARE LEAKING . PER TOYOTA THEY ARE NOT LEAKING ENOUGH TO WARRANT REPLACEMENT UNDER THE WARRANTY . PER MY OWN MECHANIC THE STRUTS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WILL FAIL WEST VIRGINIA INSPECTION FOR IT. YOU CAN TELL THE STRUTS HAVE ISSUES BECAUSE THE TIRES ARE WEARING IN A MATTER CONSISTENT WITH STRUT ISSUES. TOYOTA SAYS THE TIRE WEAR IS NORMAL FOR THE TYPE OF TIRES I HAVE , THE MANUFACTURE SAYS OTHER WISE .

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 2 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE IT BECAME HARD TO ACCELERATE. THE SKID LIGHT, VSC LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT ONCE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF STARTED IT BACK UP IT DROVE FINE BUT THE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK THE CAR IN. THIS WAS PURCHASED AS A DEALER DEMO AND HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS WATER IN MY ENGINE AND THE OIL WAS MILKY. TO ME THIS SOUNDED LIKE A HEAD GASKET BUT THEY ASSURED ME THEY RAN A TEST FOR THAT. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE PCV VALVE CLAIMING THE VALVE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY THIS WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE WATER. I DON'T KNOW IF THE PART IS STILL AROUND OR NOT. I HOPE THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD WARM IT UP FOR 15 TO 20 MINUTES A DAY WHICH SOUNDS A LITTLE WEIRD TO ME BEING A FAIRLY NEW CAR. *TR

AFTER GETTING THE THIRD SET OF TIRES, I NOTICED THAT ALL FOUR STRUTS WERE LEAKING. THE SECOND SET OF TIRES WORE OUT PREMATURELY. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR STARTED FLAPPING AND WOULD NO LONGER STAY UP. I HAD TO REMOVE THE VISOR BECAUSE IT STARTED TO BLOCK MY VIEW. *TR

THE STALL WOULD OCCUR AS THE CONSUMER MADE A RAPID CHANGE FROM DECELERATION TO ACCELERATION. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE STALL WAS A BUILT IN DESIGN FEATURE. THE CONSUMER STATED TO MINIMIZE THE STALL, SHE MUST MANUALLY DOWN SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION WHENEVER THE ENGINE IS IN THE DECELERATION PHASE. RECENTLY, A SLOW MOVING 18 WHEELER UNEXPECTEDLY PULLED INTO THE CONSUMERS LANE OF TRAFFIC, WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE CONSUMER STATED HER NATURAL REACTION WAS TO REMOVE HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR, PUTTING THE ENGINE /TRANSMISSION INTO DECELERATION MODE. AS THE SITUATION UNFOLDED, SHE CONCLUDED THAT THE RAPID ACCELERATION AND LANE CHANGE WAS THE SAFEST METHOD. WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED TO ACCELERATE AROUND THE TRUCK, THERE WAS NO REACTION FROM THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION DELAYED RESPONDING AND WHEN IT DID RESPOND, IT CHOSE A GEAR WHICH PRODUCED NO MEANINGFUL FORWARD MOTION, BUT LOTS OF NOISE. CONSEQUENTLY, SHE WAS FORCED TO BRAKE VERY HARD, BUT THE BRAKES FAILED TO PERFORM AS DESIGNED. THE NEXT DAY, THE DEALER EXPLAINED THERE WAS A FACTORY ALERT ISSUE ON THE BRAKE PADS.
