I HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT MY CAMRY'S DASH BOARD. IT HAS BECOME VERY DISTURBING DUE TO IT LITERALLY MELTING. I CAN'T EVEN TOUCH MY DASH BOARD WITHOUT MY FINGERS AND HANDS GETTING STUCK TO IT. MY CAR IS A DAILY DRIVER BUT THE TEXAS HEAT HAS RUINED WHAT I TRY TO KEEP IN PRISTINE CONDITION.
BURNING OIL TOO FAST
I WAS NOT TOLD BY EITHER TOYOTA OR TOYOTA OF TAMPA BAY THAT THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK PROBLEM. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE OF A BURNING SMELL, I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK AFTER DRIVING FOR A 1,000 MILES. I DIDN'T - MY ERROR, BUT I WASN'T TOLD THERE WAS A WARRENTY OR ANY KIND OF MAJOR ISSUE. WHEN I DID GO BACK, THEY RAN THE TEST AGAIN, TELLING ME I'D GET A NEW ENGINE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM. WHEN I DID COME BACK, THE STORY CHANGED TO A REBUILD ENGINE. THEN, WHEN THE SERVICE REP CAME TO TELL ME THE ISSUE, HE SAID MY CAR HAD THE ISSUE, BUT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. MY CAR, A 2009, HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT.
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING. THE TOYOTA DEALER SAID THEY COULD REPLACE IT FOR $1500. I JUST RECENTLY LEARNED THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN REPLACING THEM FOR FREE, BUT THAT HAS ENDED. WERE TOYOTA OWNERS INFORMED OF THIS. I DO NOT REMEMBER GETTING ANY KIND OF NOTIFICATION ABOUT REPLACING MELTING DASHBOARDS.
TIMING CHAIN BROKE WITHOUT A Y WARNING, CAUSED MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED FOR SCRAP. TOYOTA WAS UNABLE TO FIX IT WITHOUT COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT.
THE HAND BRAKE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT'S COASTING AND HAVE NO TRACTION CONTROL. ALL OF THE SUDDEN, ALL LIGHTS TURN ON DASHBOARD AND CHECK VSC SYSTEM COMES ON, BRAKES ARE HARD TO ENGAGE AND STEERING CONTROL IS DIFFICULT. CAR DRIVES LIKE THAT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND THEN ALL GOES BACK TO NORMAL. FEW DAYS LATER IT STARTS UP AGAIN WITH THE BREAK LIGHTS COMING ON AND OFF. IT HAPPENS DURING DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS: STRAIGHT CITY STREET, WHILE TURNING, GOING DOWN A HILL OR ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP. THIS MAKES IT REALLY SCARY AS I AM IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN I AM TRYING TO BREAK AND THE BREAK DO NOT ENGAGE AND STEERING CONTROL IS AFFECTED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MECHANIC AFTER THE INCIDENTS AND THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE AND THERE ARE NO FAILURE CODES. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE KEEPS GOING ON MAKING ME TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THE CAR.
I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT HAS THE STICKY DASHBOARD PROBLEM AND CAUSES GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT CAUSES UNSAFE OPERATING. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH TOYOTA AND THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT FIX THE DASHBOARD. ATTACHED IS A PICTURE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND THERE IS A VEHICLE YOU CAN SEE IN FRONT BUT BARELY.
LEFT AXEL CV JOINT IS BAD AT UNDER 59,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT IS EFFECTING THE STEERING WHEN TURNING LEFT AND JERKS THE WHEEL BACK - DANGEROUS!
SUN VISORS WILL NOT STAY UP CAUSING HAZARDOUS VIEW OBSTRUCTION.
MY VSC LIGHT IS ON ALONG WITH THE ABS AND THE BRAKE LIGHT. WHILE TAKING A 1 1/2 HOUR TRIPT THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND STAYED OFF FOR A FEW DAYS. WHILE TAKING ANOTHER HIGHWAY TRIP TRAVELING THE SPEED LIMIT, THE LIGHT WAS OFF UNTIL AFTER DRIVING FOR TWO HOURS I STOPPED AT A RESTAURANT. THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON, AND HAVE BEEN ON EVER SINCE.
THE ENGINE OF MY CAR HAS BEEN BURNING THROUGH OIL SO FAST. THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT IS ON SO I TOOK IT TO THE AUTO SHOP TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND THE EMPLOYEE THERE TOLD ME TO CONTACT TOYOTA SINCE THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2009 CAMRY ENGINE. I CALLED TOYOTA PLACE IN GARDEN GROVE AND THE PERSON I SPOKE TO SAID THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO HELP ME SINCE RECALL HAS BEEN EXPIRED AND TO CALL HEADQUARTERS. HOWEVER, I INFORMED HER THAT I NEVER GOT A NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THIS RECALL. I ALSO INFORMED HER THAT I TOOK MY CAMRY 2009 INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY 2018 TO GET THE DASHBOARD REPLACED FROM ANOTHER RECALL BUT NO ONE INFORMED ME ABOUT THE ENGINE RECALL DURING THAT TIME EITHER. TOYOTA HAD FAILED TO NOTIFY ME TWICE. TOYOTA FAILED TO SEND ME A NOTICE ABOUT THE ENGINE RECALL AND THEY AGAIN FAILED TO NOTIFY ME WHEN I BROUGHT IN MY CAR TO GET THE DASHBOARD FIXED. SO I CONTACTED HEADQUARTERS AND THE PERSON ON THE OTHER LINE TOLD ME THE SAME THING THAT THEY CAN'T HELP ME SINCE THE TIME TO BRING IN MY CAR HAD EXPIRED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FIX OUT OF POCKET. I WISH THEY WOULD DO A THOROUGH JOB OF REACHING OUT TO THEIR CONSUMERS REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THEIR CARS.
ORIGINAL OWNER OF 2009 CAMRY WITH 84K MILES BURNED THROUGH SO MUCH OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVER 3 QTS LOW, RESTORED OIL LEVEL DID NOT ELIMINATE NOISES ASSESSED TO BE ROD SLAP DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR. I NOW EXPECT THE ENGINE TO DIE AT ANY TIME WITH THROWN ROD.
ON MY 2009 CAMRY HYBRID, AS I WAS GOING TO WORK, WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR THE BRAKES WENT HARD AND CAN'T STOP THE CAR TOTALLY I SAW THE BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL, AND ABS LIGHTS TURNED ON, AND CHECK VSC SYSTEM DISPLAYED. I IMMEDIATELY SLOW DOWN THE CAR TOOK THE EXIT AND STOP THE CAR. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND START THE CAR AGAIN WHICH FIXED ALL THE ABOVE ISSUES. IT HAPPENED APPROX TWO WEEKS AGO AND TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA OF GRAPEVINE TX 76051 AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANY ISSUE RELATED TO BRAKE OR ANY CODE. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TAKING THE CAR TO THE SAME DEALER TO CHECK AGAIN.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE (395N INTO DC) AND THE CAR'S BRAKES FAILED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY DISPLAYED VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM (VCS) FAILURE AND A NUMBER OF OTHER WARNINGS. I WAS FORCED TO SWERVE OUT OF TRAFFIC AND TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR.
BOUGHT A USED 09 CAMRY. EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE UNTIL 2 MONTHS AFTER DRIVING THE CAR WE NOTICED IT WAS BURNING THROUGH OIL, 2.5+ QTS PER 1000 MILES. DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND FAILED ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY (PAST THE 10 YR MARK). I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY'D EVEN PERFORM THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST KNOWING THEY COULDN'T HELP IF IT INDEED FAILED BECAUSE ALTHOUGH IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST IS "WARRANTY PROTOCOL" BEFORE ANY REPAIRS ARE MADE... I CALLED THE HEADQUARTERS OFFICE AND SPOKE TO 2 REPS WHO BOTH DOCUMENTED MY ISSUE AND SAID, "WE'LL FORWARD YOUR COMPLAINT TO OUR MANAGER AND CREATE A CASE... I HONESTLY BELIEVE WE SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS", ONLY TO HEAR BACK FROM THE MANAGER WHO LEAD ME ON DURING THE CALL BY SAYING, "IT'S OUR JOB HERE AT TOYOTA TO SERVICE CUSTOMERS IN NEED. I'M FAMILIAR WITH YOUR SITUATION AFTER READING YOUR CASE NOTES. YOU DID NOTHING WRONG AND WEREN'T NEGLIGENT. LET ME SEE WHAT I CAN DO TO HELP YOU". THEN LITERALLY THE NEXT SENTENCE THE GUY SAID, "I'M SORRY, WE CAN'T HELP YOU". I ASKED HIM WHY HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO HELP ME, KNOWING THE DETAILS OF THE CASE WHICH EXPLAINED THAT I WANTED TO HAVE THIS OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE FIXED. HE LITERALLY SAID, "I WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE RESOLUTION YOU WERE SEARCHING FOR AND I KNEW YOU WERE OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE. BUT BECAUSE IT'S A UNIQUE SITUATION AND I CAN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN ON MY END, I DECIDED TO OFFER ASSISTANCE". YET HE DID NOTHING. NOW I'M OUT $5500
MELTING DASHBOARD BECOME REFLECTIVE HINDERING/BLINDING DRIVER DURING DAYTIME DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING AND BECOMING VERY STICKY AND SHINY. THE GLARE FROM THE SUN REFLECTED ONTO THE DASHBOARD, WHICH OBSTRUCTED THE CONTACT'S VIEW. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED, THE WATER REMAINED ON THE WINDSHIELD AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO VIEW THE ROAD. THE CONTACT CALLED ANTIOCH TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 1817 AUTO CENTER DR, ANTIOCH, CA 94509, (925) 778-4800) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AND WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,000.
DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND REFLECTION FROM IT CAUSING DIFFICULTY SEEING OUT THE WINDSHIELD WHEN DRIVING
MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY LE CAUGHT ON FIRE FRIDAY JAN 4 2018. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE ONLY VISIBLE WARNING LIGHTS IILLUMINATED WAS THE WINDSHIELD WIPER LIGHT. NO OTHER WARNING LIGHTS ACTIVE PRIOR TO FIRE.THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE AND WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN PORTLAND OREGON. WHEN THE FIRST STARTED FIRE WE SAW SPARKS FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND SMOKING AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ETC STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF.
WHEN I DRIVING BACK YESTERDAY JAN 1ST 2019 FROM FRIENDS HOUSE SUDDENLY THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM TURNED ON AND OTHER ICONS TURNED ON IN THE CAR DASHBOARD. I TRIED TO PRESS THE BRAKES AT A STOP SIGN AND THEY DO NOT ENGAGE OR THEY WOULD ENGAGE ON A DELAY, VEHICLE TOOK LONG TIME TO STOP. IT WAS HARD DRIVING BACK AND I WAS SCARED OF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENING EVEN AFTER TURNING ON EMERGENCY BLINKERS ON MY DRIVE BACK HOME. TOYOTA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE IT AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
SUN VISOR FLOPPING LOOSE. WILL NOT STAY UP & IS BLOCKING MY DRIVING VISION.THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT & TOYOTA SAID IT IS NOT BROKEN HOWEVER, IT WAS BROKEN. NOW THEY SAID RECALL EXPIRED IN 2015. & WANT $145 TO FIX IT. THE SUNVISOR IS BLINDING MY EYE SITE WHEN I DRIVE.
THE DASHBOARD HAS BECOME EXCEEDINGLY STICKY. IT IS VERY DISTRESSING TO SAY THE LEAST. A FLY GOT STUCK ON IT THE OTHER DAY AND USING A KLEENEX TO REMOVE IT WAS A MAJOR MISTAKE. HOWEVER, THE MOST UPSETTING CONSEQUENCE IS THE SAFETY HAZARD CREATED BY SHINY/REFLECTION ONTO THE WINDSHIELD THAT IS MOST CONCERNING. I HAVE INQUIRED AT TOYOTA WHAT CAN BE DONE AND THEIR ONLY RECOMMENDATION WAS TO USE A CLEANSER MADE FOR DASHBOARDS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT DID NOT WORK.
OIL BURNING PROBLEM
ALL ENGINE SERVICES WERE DONE ALWAYS IN TOYOTAS CENTER, NOW CAR IS 154329 KM(95,895MILES) AND I STARTED TO CHECK OIL BY MYSELF IN THE LAST YEAR AND I NOTICED EXCESSIVE MOTOR OIL CONSUMPTION. ACTUALLY I NEED TO ADD 1QT OIL EVERY 3 WEEKS (1 QT EVERY 350 MILES APROXIMATELY). THE MOTOR IS NOT DRIPPING THE OIL ON THE FLOOR, SO IT MUST BE GOING SOMEWHERE.
THE CAR HAS BURNED OIL FROM DAY ONE. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT DOWNSHIFT ENOUGH TO HOLD MOTOR BACK PROPERLY GOING DOWN AN INCLINE. IT WON'T HOLD BACK BY TRANSMISSION EVEN IF YOU DOWN SHIFT YOUR SELF.
AT 150K MILES STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING UP WHILE IN MOTION. USUALLY OCCURS WHEN TRYING TO TURN RIGHT, LOCKS FOR 2 OR 3 SECONDS THEN JERKS SLIGHTLY BACK TO THE LEFT. HAS DONE THIS 3 TIMES RECENTLY, TWICE LEAVING ME PAUSED MOMENTARILY IN OPPOSITE LANE OF TRAFFIC! FORTUNATELY NO TRAFFIC WAS IN THAT LANE DURING THOSE MOMENTS BEFORE IT UNLOCKED. THE THIRD SITUATION WAS IN MOTION BUT NOT OUR OF PARKING LOT YET. ALSO MAKES A SCREECHING SOUND WHILE THIS IS GOING ON! I SEE WHERE THERE ARE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT LATER YEAR MODEL CAMRYS BUT HAVEN'T SEEN ONE ON 2009. ALSO HAVE NOT SEEN SCREECHING SOUND MENTIONED. TRYING TO FIND OUT IF OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH 2009?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATEY 10 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP OR SLOW DOWN WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. DURING THE FAILURE, SEVERAL WARNING MESSAGES AND INDICATORS DISPLAYED AND ILLUMINATED INCLUDING "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL), ABS, MASTER WARNING, AND BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PASSPORT TOYOTA (5001 AUTH WAY, SUITLAND, MD) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,571.
MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY'S DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND MELTING. THERE IS NOT A WAY TO CLEAN THE DASHBOARD AS EVERYTHING STICKS.....INCLUDING DUST OR BUGS. THERE IS ALSO A GLARE THAT MAKES IT CHALLENGING TO DRIVE. TOYOTA WONT FIX THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 40 MPH (IN A 50 MPH ZONE ON A BACK ROAD) I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CHECK VBS SYSTEM WARNING CAME ON AS WELL AS ALL OF THE DASH BOARD WARNING LIGHTS. THE CAR WAS CHECKED AND THE BRAKE PADS WERE FINE, THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS NORMAL, AND NO COMPUTER CODES CAME UP WHEN THAT WAS CHECKED. THE BRAKE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF AND THE BRAKES WORK MOST OF THE TIME, BUT OUT OF NO WHERE THEY WON'T ENGAGE. IT WAS VERY SCARY, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MY KIDS WERE IN THE CAR. THANK GOODNESS I WASN'T GOING FASTER THAN I WAS BECAUSE I DON'T THINK WE WOULD HAVE STOPPED IN TIME.
VSC SYSTEM KEEPING APPEARING ON THE DASH BOARD
BRAKE, ABS AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, CHECK VSC MESSAGE CAME ON AND MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. I WAS LEAVING MY PARKING LOT AND GOT HALFWAY DOWN THE BLOCK WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I COULD NOT BRAKE SO I LET THE CAR ROLL TO A STOP AND USED THE CURB TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP. CAR I HAD NOT MOVED SINCE I DROVE IT REALLY SLOW TO HOUSE.
TAKATA RECALL - THE KNEE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AFTER A REAR END LOW IMPACT CRASH ON 11/09/18. THE BAG DEPLOYED TOWARD MY ANKLE WHICH WAS ON THE BREAK WITH SUCH FORCE THAT IT CRUSHED MY ANKLE, COMPOUND FRACTURE WITH DISLOCATION AND DESTRUCTION OF LIGAMENTS AND TENDONS OF THE ANKLE JOINT. THE BONE WAS TURNED AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. THIS REQUIRED BEING SENT TO THE SHOCK TRAUMA UNIT AT A TRAUMA HOSPITAL IN MEMPHIS, TN. I HAD EXTENSIVE SURGERY ON MY ANKLE AND AN EXTERNAL FIXATOR, WHICH I WILL WEAR UNTIL AROUND MID JANUARY. THEN A WEIGHT BEARING CAST AND EXTENSIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY. THE FIRST DEPUTY ON SITE SAID IT WAS OBVIOUS THE AIRBAG MORE THAN LIKELY CAUSED THE DAMAGE TO MY ANKLE. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR OR FLOOR BOARD AND NO DAMAGE TO THE BREAK OR ACCELERATOR. I HAD NO OTHER INJURIES, OTHER THAT A SLIGHT BUMP ON THE HEAD FROM THE OTHER AIRBAG. I DID HAVE MY SEATBELT ON. I WAS TOLD AT THE HOSPITAL THAT I WAS LUCKY I DIDN'T LOSE MY FOOT, THIS AIRBAG SEEMED TO PROJECT FORCEFULLY DIRECTLY INTO MY ANKLE/FOOT AREA AND I IMMEDIATELY FELT MY ANKLE GO NUMB AND I COULDN'T MOVE IT. THE BONE PROTRUDED OUT OF MY SKIN AND WAS TURNED 90 DEGREES OTHER SURROUNDING BONE WAS FRAGMENTED. SINCE THERE WERE BONE FRAGMENTS THAT WERE TOO SMALL TO REPAIR, THIS WILL COMPLICATE COMPLETE RECOVERY FROM MY INJURY. I HAVE PHOTOS, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO UPLOAD.
BRAKE COMES ON, ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO BRAKE (BRAKES ARE HARD). THEN AFTER AN HOUR OR SO THE LIGHTS GO OFF AND BRAKES RETURN TO NORMAL. I NOTICED THAT WHEN IT RETURNS TO NORMAL THERE IS A HEAVY BUMP, IT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE SOMEONE BUMPED YOU FROM THE REAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS NOW. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING MINOR, PADS ETC. AND IT WAS NOT THAT. ON 11/28/18 I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. NOT SURE WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME WITH NO WARNING, IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO STARTING THE VEHICLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ODOR OF BURNING OIL WAS PRESENT BEFORE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE OIL DIP STICK WAS LOW. ONCE OIL WAS ADDED, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE OIL WAS LAST CHANGED ON AUGUST 13, 2018. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER SUNRISE TOYOTA (3984 SUNRISE HWY, OAKDALE, NY) WERE BOTH NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
ON MY VEHICLE, MY DASHBOARD HAS DEVELOPED A STICKY RESIDUR ON THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD. IT APPEARS THAT THE DASHBOARD HAS BEGAN TO MELT. IVE ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN, ETC WITH NO POSITIVE RESULTS. THIS STICKY RESIDUE HAS A SUBSTANTIAL GLARE EMITTING OFF IT THAT SOMETIMES INPAIRS MY VISIBILITY AND OFTEN TIMES CREATES A REFLECTION ON WINDSHIELD HINDERING VISION WHEN OOERATING VEHICLE. SECOND NOTE IS EVERY SENSE THIS HAS BEGAN AND GOTTEN WORSE MY CAR INTERIOR NOW HAS A DISTINCT SMELL. UNSURE WHAT THE SMELL IS BUT IT SMELLS LIKE AN ODOR OF A HOT PLASTIC MATERIAL. MY INTERIOR HAS BEEN DETAILED RRC AND THE SMELL WHEN NOT GO AWAY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA BECAUSE THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS LAWSUITS AND RECALLS IN THE PAST. I WAS TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. IF ITS CREATES UNSAFE DRIIVING CONDITIONS, HOW CAN THEY PUT AN EXPIRATION ON THE FIX. THE CONDITION OF DASHBOARD I BELIEVE WAS CREATED BY A DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD NOT MADE TO WITHSTAND HUMIDITY OR HEAT. TOYOTA KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEMS, BUT REFUSES TO HELP LOYAL TOYOTA OWNERS, LIKE MYSELF. I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH HOW THEY HANDLED THIS. IN THE PICTURE ATTACHED. THE SUN IS OVERHEAD, SO THE REFLECTION NOT BAD BUT STILL VISIBLE. LOOK AT BOTTOM OF WINDSHIELD AND YOU WILL SEE THE REFLECTION.
I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. I NOTICED THAT MY HEADLIGHTS IN THE LOW BEAM FUNCTION ARE VERY DIM, TO THE POINT OF BEING DANGEROUSLY DIM. THE TOYOTA DEALER STATED THAT THE LENS IN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING HAS CLOUDED DUE TO UV DAMAGE AND USE. THE LIGHT BULB ITSELF FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY FINE, BUT THE LENS ENGINEERED TO MAGNIFY THE LOW-BEAM LIGHT IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE DECREASE OF VISIBLE LIGHT. I STATED THAT I ALSO OWN A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT HAS NO PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND IT PROVIDES ENOUGH LIGHT. THE SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE BOTH LIGHT HOUSINGS TO THE TUNE OF $400.00 EACH. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THIS IS A REGULAR OPERATING EXPENSE, LIKE REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR. WITH LABOR, THIS EXPENSE WILL BE CLOSER TO $1000.00 INSTEAD OF CHANGING TWO HEADLAMPS FOR $30.00 EACH. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS TECHNOLOGY DOESN'T WORK, AND IS DANGEROUS. THESE HEADLIGHTS ARE STILL BEING USED ON NEW TOYOTA MODELS.
ENGINE FAILED WHILE DRIVING. MY ENGINE WAS REBUILT (4 PISTONS, RINGS AND ALL ASSOCIATED PARTS) BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION FAILURE, LESS THAN 25,000 MILES LATER MY ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH NO INDICATIONS (NO LIGHTS, NO SMOKE)AT ABOUT 154,000 MILES. 4,000 OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. WHILE DRIVING THE VSC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TEMPERATURE GAGE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN, WHEN I TRIED TO BREAK TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK NOR DID THE GAS. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER AND LET THE VEHICLE SLOW DOWN NATURALLY UNTIL I POPPED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER OVERHEATED. SERVICE REP SAID I LOST COMPRESSION DUE TO A PRESSURE BUILDING UP IN MY ENGINE, CAUSING THE HEAD GASKET AND RADIATOR TO BLOW. SERVICE REP SAID THEIR IS ALSO A BAD PISTON. TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALL, CORPORATE SAID THEY ARE PARTNERS WITH THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
THE DRIVER VISOR DROOPS DOWN. IT JUST RECENTLY STARTED DOING THIS. IT BLOCKS VISIBILITY WHEN DRIVING. IT WILL NOT STAY UP. WHEN I GOT INTO MY CAR THIS EVENING IT WAS DOWN AND WOULD NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION.
THE SEAT BELT DOES NOT SAY FASTENED IN THE RECEPTACLE. IT COMES OUT WHILE DRIVING.
ENGINE SEIZED WHEN DRIVING. CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO TOLD ME THE DAMAGE WAS LIKELY RELATED TO AN ISSUE INVOLVING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. TOYOTA WAS CONTACTED AND REFUSED TO HELP.
DASH BOARD MELTING. CAUSES GLARE ON WINDSHIELD. AND IS VERY STICKY
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 77 SOUTH, JUST NORTH OF BOILVAR, OH, 70 MPH, HEARD LOUD EXPLOSION. THOUGHT IT WAS A TIRE. CHECKED TO FIND IT WAS MY MOON ROOF. IT SHATTERED TO PIECES. THE HOLE WAS THE SIZE OF A BASKETBALL, WITH REMAINING GLASS CRACKED TO THE POINT IT CRUMBLED TO THE TOUCH. NO OTHER CARS, TRUCKS, OR FOREIGN OBJECTS WERE NEAR ME. THE GLASS SIMPLY EXPLODED. THERE WAS NO OVERPASS NEARBY, BOTH SIDES OF ROAD WERE WOODS AND I WAS IN A RURAL AREA. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND I'M THE ONLY OWNER. I WILL CONTACT LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND HAVE IT REPAIRED AS I USE MY CAR DAILY. DATE OF INCIDENT 8/26/18, TIME ABOUT 8:40 A.M. NO INJURIES, OTHER THAN MONETARY. THE INTERIOR SLIDE COVER, UNDER MOON ROOF WAS CLOSED. MOON ROOF WAS CLOSED. NO POLICE REPORT FILED. I COVERED THE AREA WITH PLASTIC AND DUCT TAPE WHILE ON THE ROAD. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, I REMOVED THE DISTRESSED GLASS, SWEPT THE AREA, AND WILL SEE TOYOTA AND GLASS REPAIR FACILITY TOMORROW (MONDAY 8/27/18).

SUDDEN CLUSTER FAILURE OF DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING, POSSIBLE SHORT IN ABS CONTROL SYSTEM CAUSES LOSS OF ODOMETER AND SPEEDOMETER, JUMPING NEEDLE FOR ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND TACHOMTETER, LOSS OF GEAR INDICATOR LIGHT. BOTH CHECK ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED. UNPLUGGING ABS REMEDIES ENGINE, TACHOMETER, AND GEAR INDICATOR. STILL HAVE NO ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, AND WARNING LIGHTS FOR BRAKE AND ABS PERMANENTLY ILLUMINATED.

2009 CAMRY HYBRID MELTING DASHBOARD. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS ONE CAN'T SEE INCOMING TRAFFIC OR PEDESTRIANS WHEN DRIVING INTO THE SUN. I HAVE BEEN IN FEW CLOSE CALL INCIDENTS WHERE I COULDN'T SEE PEDESTRIANS OR TRAFFIC INFRONT OF ME. PLEASE RECALL THIS PROBLEM WITH THE MELTING/CRACKING DASHBOARD.
THE FACTORY PROVIDED VEHICLE JACK IS OF POOR QUALITY. IT BENT FROM THE MIDDLE AFTER THE VERY FIRST USE. IF NOT FOR THE TIRE STILL ON THE AXEL, THE CAR WOULD'VE HAD LOTS OF DAMAGE.
