THE DASHBOARD HAS MELTED AND IS STICKY AND SHINY WHICH HAS CREATED AN INTENSE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE SOME SPOTS WHILE DRIVING. THE SHINY DASHBOARD DOES NOT RETURN TO NORMAL EVEN IN COOLER TEMPERATURES, OR IF A SUNSHADE IS USED. THE SHINY STICKY GOO LIKE FILM CAN NOT BE WIPED AWAY EITHER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER SHE STARTED PARKING THE VEHICLE OUTSIDE, THE DASHBOARD STARTED MELTING. THE CONTACT CALLED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED TO CONTACT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MEET THE GUIDELINES FOR THE VOLUNTARY EVALUATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.*DT PURCHASED TOYOTA 2009 VEHICLE ON 12/30/2014. WAS NOT INFORMED OF ANY RECALLS/VOLUNTARY PROGRAMS FOR THE VEHICLE. EMPLOYMENT FROM 2014 - JANUARY 2018 PARKED IN THE PARKING GARAGE DURING THE DAY. CHANGED EMPLOYMENT JANUARY 2018 AND PARKED IN OPEN PARKING LOT, NO PARKING GARAGE AVAILABLE. NOTICED MINIMAL MELTING OF THE DASHBOARD AROUND JULY 2018. ASSUMED ISSUE WOULD AUTO-RESOLVE IN COLDER CLIMATE. PROGRESSIVE WORSENING OF "MELTING DASHBOARD" SUMMER OF 2019. RETURNED TO PREVIOUS EMPLOYER AND BEGAN PARKING IN THE PARKING GARAGE AGAIN DURING THE DAY FROM SEPT 2019 TO PRESENT DAY. COVID 19 PANDEMIC OCCURRED. NOTED MELTING OF DASHBOARD DID NOT RESOLVE, CALLED MECHANIC AND WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT TOYOTA NATIONAL CORPORATION. CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATION ON 10/09/2020 AND DISCUSSED CASE. ISSUE FORWARDED TO TOYOTA CORPORATION SUPERVISOR, HENRY CAREY CASE# [XXX]. PER MR. CAREY, THE VOLUNTARY PROGRAM EXPIRED ON 11/12/2018 AND WAS EXTENDED TO 150,000 MILES OR 10 YEARS WHICHEVER OCCURRED FIRST. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATIONS REGARDING THIS VOLUNTARY PROGRAM FOR THE TOYOTA DASHBOARD ISSUE. MR. CAREY ADVISED TO SUBMIT COMPLAINT TO NHTSA. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AS IT CRASHED INTO SEVERAL PARKED VEHICLES. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HANDS AND LEGS THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE GEORGIA POLICE DEPARTMENT FILED CASE NUMBER: 18-067932. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN LOCATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I PURCHASED A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY ON JUNE 23, 2008. AFTER A FEW YEARS, THE DASHBOARD BECAME SOFT AND STICKY. JUST THIS LAST SUMMER, I NOTICED IT MELTING ON A HOT SUNNY DAY. I LOOKED INTO HAVING IT REPLACED. THERE WAS A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION LETTER PREVIOUSLY SENT TO ME, WHICH STATED THIS TYPE OF KNOWN PROBLEM WOULD BE COVERED FOR UP TO 10 YEARS SINCE CAR WAS FIRST PLACED IN SERVICE. UNFORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T DETERMINE THIS WAS ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM TO ME UNTIL JUNE 28, 2018. I MISSED THE WARRANTY EXTENSION BY 5 DAYS. I CONTACTED NEWBOLD TOYOTA ON JUNE 29, 2018, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT AFTER THE 10 YEARS, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, EXCEPT TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR. THE REPAIR WAS ESTIMATED AT APPROX. $1,500 FOR THE DASHBOARD REPLACEMENT. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT "OH WELL, I CAN LIVE WITH THIS." BUT NOW THE DASHBOARD HAS MELTED SO MUCH THAT IT NOW REFLECTS SUNLIGHT INTO THE WINDSHIELD SO BADLY THAT IT IS HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD WHEN DRIVING TOWARDS THE SUN ON A SUNNY DAY (EVEN WHILE WEARING SUNGLASSES). SO THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD IS NOW CAUSING VERY HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITION. SO I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER, AND THEY SAID ESSENTIALLY THE SAME THING AS NEWBOLD TOYOTA. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO NOW. SINCE THIS DESIGN/MATERIAL FLAW HAS CAUSED SUCH A SERIOUS HAZARD WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, AND THIS IS NOW A SAFETY ISSUE, I BELIEVE TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE AND SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR TO FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR, I HAD NO IDEA THE DASHBOARD HAD AN EXPIRATION DATE. IF ONLY I HAD NOTICED THE MELTING A FEW DAYS EARLIER THEY WOULD HAVE PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT. WHY DOES THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX A DEFECT/SAFETY ISSUE END AFTER 10 YEARS. I HAVE ATTACHED PHOTO TO SHOW REFLECTION ON WINDSHIELD BUT BLINDING GLARE IS MUCH WORSE IN PERSON.

WHILE DRIVING IN THIS 100 DEGREE WEATHER I TURN ON THE A/C THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT COMES ON AT THE SAME TIME ALSO MY ODOMETER AND RPM NEEDLES STOP WORKING
I WAS DENIED REPLACEMENT OF A MELTED DASHBOARD BECAUSE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED (BY 2 BUSINESS DAYS). THE 2009 CAMRY DASHBOARD MELTING IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT CASTS A JARRING GLARE ONTO THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD AND MAKES DRIVING UNSAFE. VISIBILITY IS COMPROMISED. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. INJURIES OR WORSE ARE IMMINENT. PLEASE ACT ON BEHALF OF CONSUMERS AND ESTABLISH A RECALL FOR TOYOTA MELTING DASHBOARDS.
STICKY, MELTING DASHBOARD CAUSES A GLARE WHEN DRIVING AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE DRIVING!
THE DASHBOARD GAUGES SUDDENLY DROP DEAD. ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ON. A/C IS GETTING AFFECTED. ALL THE NEEDLES START DANCING. CAR STARTS SHAKING AND GETTING WARM. IT COMES AND GOES. SIMILAR YEAR CARS HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT. APPARENTLY IT HAS TO DO WITH THE ABS MODULE SHORT CIRCUITING. THIS IS A BIG LIFE AND SAFETY CONCERN AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECAL PLEASE. THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE.
ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION
4 NEW YOKOHAMA AVID ASCEND P215 60 R16 TIRES PURCHASED FROM TOYOTA DEALER/SERVICE CENTER ON 4/10-11/18, CAR MILEAGE 82455. ON 6/6/18 ONE TIRE REPLACED DUE TO LARGE BULGE IN SIDE WALL OF RIGHT FRONT TIRE (CAR MILEAGE 84540). REQUESTED THAT ALL OTHER TIRES BE INSPECTED FOR DEFECTS AT THE TIME THIS TIRE WAS REPLACED; WAS TOLD ALL OTHER TIRES WERE FINE; NO BULGES. ON 6/11/18 (5 DAYS LATER) NOTED A BULGE IN THE SIDE WALL OF THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WHICH IS 3 INCH BY 2 INCH. I'VE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THEM I WANT A REFUND ON THESE TIRES AS I DON'T TRUST THE YOKOHAMA TIRES ANY MORE...WAITING FOR A RESPONSE IN BOTH CASES, FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE, AND THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN I NOTICED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I DO A LOT OF INTERSTATE TRAVEL. I'M ESPECIALLY CONCERNED BECAUSE THERE WAS A TIRE SALE AT THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME I PURCHASED THESE TIRES' SINCE TWO OF THE FOUR OF MY NEW TIRES (SO FAR) WERE DEFECTIVE, I WONDER HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE PURCHASED TIRES DURING THIS SALE. I'M NOT SURE HOW I CAN TAKE A PICTURE OF THE BUBBLE, BUT WOULD BE HAPPY TO DO SO, IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING ANY RECEIPT INFORMATION NEEDED TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE. PLEASE ADVISE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (AUTOCENTRO TOYOTA IN SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO, 787-999-9115) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A LEAK IN THE ABS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
VERY STICKY DASHBOARD THAT IS SHINY AND BLINDNING

ALSO, THERE WAS AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF LINT ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KINGS TOYOTA (4700 FIELDS ERTEL RD, CINCINNATI, OH 45249, (513) 683-5440) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1908150490, BUT NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED NOW IT HAS ACTUALLY BROKEN DOWN TO THE POINT THAT THE PADDING AND VINYL COVERING JUST RUB OFF. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT MANUFACTURERS WERE REQUIRED TO INSTALL PADDED DASHBOARDS YEARS AGO FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. TOYOTA DID EXTEND THE WARRANT BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT THE BREAK DOWN STARTED NATURALLY AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. *JB
MELTING DASH STICKY SHINY GLARE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED WITH EXTREME PRESSURE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT INDICATORS INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT FURTHER STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE DECREASED TO ZERO, THE THERMOSTAT LEVER WENT TO COLD, AND THE TACHOMETER FLUCTUATED TO ZERO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEGACY TOYOTA (3800 W TENNESSEE ST, TALLAHASSEE, FL 32304, (888) 610-8309) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
GLARE FROM MELTED DASHBOARD
OIL CONSUMPTION - MY 2009 CAMRY IS USING A LOT OF OIL. HAD THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DONE AND THEY SAID IT WAS FINE. 2 WEEKS LATER I'M ALREADY A QUART LOW. AT THIS RATE THERE WILL BE NO OIL LEFT BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION USE IS 1.5 QUARTS EVERY 1200 MILES THAT IS CRAZY. THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL. I SAW ONLINE THIS HAS EFFECTED CARS FROM 2007 TO 2011. SO IF YOU OWN ONE IN THIS YEAR RANGE YOU BASICALLY HAVE TO ADD OIL EVERY WEEK OR TWO.
MELTING DASH: I PLACED THIS UNDER "AIR BAGS" BECAUSE THERE IS LEGITIMATE CONCERN FOR THEIR OPERATION UNDER THE DEFECTIVE DASH. ALSO, THE GLARE FROM THE SHININESS OF THE DASH IS A CONCERN. I PURCHASED IT NEW IN MAY 2008. MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN DRIVING IT. THE PROBLEM CAME TO MY ATTENTION LITERALLY DAYS AFTER THE 10-YEAR "WARRANTY EXTENSION". I TALKED TO MY DEALER AND DIRECTLY TO TOYOTA AND THEY WOULD NOT RESOLVE THE DEFECTIVE DASH. THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T GO AWAY AFTER 10 YEARS.
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING. WHEN IT SOLIDIFIES IT BECOMES EXTREMELY REFLECTIVE AND OBSTRUCTS THE WINDSHIELD VIEW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE CONTACT'S DRIVEWAY, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT NOTICED FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED IN AUGUST OF 2017 PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V689000 (VISIBILITY) AT AN UNKNOWN LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. THE SAME UNKNOWN TOYOTA DEALER WAS CALLED AND MADE AWARE OF THE RECENT FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
RIGHT MIRROR WILL NOT ROLL UP OR DOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE RPMS CONSTANTLY INCREASED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 184,293.
The Car dashboard has become sticky and shines during day light and reflects in front glass and visibility is disturbed.
THE CHECK VSC SYSTEM WAS DISPLAYED IN MY TOTOYA CAMRY 2009 HYBRID, THIS MORNING. THE WARNING, ABS, BRAKES, PARKING BRAKE AND SKID CONTROL LIGHTS HAVE TURNED ON. FROM TEST DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT APPEARS THAT THE BRAKES SEEM LESS RESPONSIVE.
ON MARCH 28,2018 VAN TROW TOYOTA TOOK MY CAR TO DO OIL CONSUMPTION ON MY CAR.I GOT MY CAR BACK ON MARCH 30,2018.ON APRIL 2,2018.EVERY TIME I CRANK MY CAR IN MORNING AND AFTER I GET OFF WORK.SMOKE IS COMING OUT MY TAILPIPE.I DIDN'T HAVE THIS BEFORE MY CAR WENT TO DEALERSHIP.I ALSO HAVE RECALL ON DASHBOARD THAT HAVE NOT BEING REPLACE YET.IAM UPSET ABOUT MY CAR.ALSO MY HOOD WAS STANDING BY ITSELF BEFORE GOING TO DEALERSHIP.NOW MY HOOD GOTTA HOLD IT.IAM VERY UPSET.I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATED ABOUT.WHATS GOING ON WITH MY CAR
THIS TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM OF CONSUMING MORE OIL. TOYOTA NEVER CONVEYED OR SENT ANY LETTER TO ME REGARDING THIS ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA CARE AFTER LOOKING AT INTERNET POSTS, TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS AND BEYOND THAT IT IS NOT COVERED. I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS NEVER CONVEYED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM SO THAT I CAN TAKE MY CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER INSTEAD OF MY REGULAR MECHANIC SHOP. TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE YOU DID NOT BRING YOUR CALL TO DEALER YOU DID NOT COME TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. MY STAND IS THAT I SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO GO TO DEALER FOR REGULAR REPAIR, ANY KNOWN MAJOR ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONVEYED TO ME VIA PROPER COMMUNICATIONS LIKE OTHER RECALLS. MY CAR IS JUST 10 YEARS 6 MONTHS OLD AND TOYOTA IS NOT ACCEPTING THE WARRANTY OF KNOWN ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT SEND ANY LETTER TO ME REGARDING THIS WARRANTY/ISSUE THEY IDENTIFIED IN PARTICULAR ENGINES INCLUDING MY 2009 CAMRY.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 MPH ON A FOUR LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY, THE DRIVER'S VISOR SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ROTATED COMPLETELY DOWN, BLOCKING MY VIEW OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD SO THAT I COULD NOT SEE AHEAD. IT WAS A DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING SITUATION! I HAD TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE CAR WHILE HOLDING THE VISOR UP SO THAT I COULD GET HOME SAFELY AND THEN GET THE CAR TO THE REPAIR FACILITY. TOYOTA KNEW THAT THIS SAFETY HAZARD EXISTED AND WAS SERIOUS BECAUSE IT DID A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE" FOR 2007 TO 2011 CAMRY HYBRID SUN VISOR BRACKETS, BUT THIS EXPIRED FOR MY CAR IN MAY OF 2016.
VEHICLE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AMD CRACKING. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE MELTING BECAUSE THE DASHBOARD IS NOW EXTREMELY SHINY AMD THE REFLECTION MAKES VISIBILITY LIMITED, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SUN IS DIRECTLY HITTING IT. I ALSO FEAR THAT THE CRACKS HAVE POSSIBLY DAMAGED THE AIRBAG ITSELF, MEANING IF IT WERE TO EVER DEPLOY WILL IT DEPLOY CORRECTLY. THIS STARTED YEARS AGO, AND AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND WHERE A RECALL WAS ISSUED. HOWEVER TOYOTA NEVER NOTIFIED ME, THEY MAIL THE CORRESPONDING INFORMATION TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THIS WAS VERIFIED WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY. THEY WOULDN'T TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE MISTAKE OR THE SAFETY ISSUE AND ADVISED ME THEY WON'T FIX IT BECAUSE THE RECALL IS EXPIRED. I'M CONFUSED HOW A SAFETY RECALL CAN EXPIRE WHEN REAL DRIVERS, LIKE MYSELF, ARE STILL HAVING THESE ISSUES BECAUSE MANY OF THESE CARS ARE STILL ON THE ROAD. MY CAR IS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY SE WITH ONLY 120K MILES. STILL ALOT OF LIFE LEFT, SO THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AMD FIX THESE SAFETY ISSUES FOR CONSUMERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. EVERY TIME A TURN WAS ATTEMPTED, A POPPING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
THE RUBBER BUTTON TO OPEN THE TRUNK MELTED, DOWN TO THE REAR BUMPER OF MY CAR (BLACK).
ALL FOUR STRUTS LEAKED ON OR PRIOR TO 60,000 MILES AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ONLY INDICATION WAS FLUID ON THE GARAGE FLOOR AND THE REPORT OF THE CAR DEALER.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID. WHILE THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS DRIVING 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A BRICK WALL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,683.
TOYOTA CAMRY ABS ACTUATOR/ECM FAILURE. I HAVE A 2009 CAMRY THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND HAD NO KNOWN ISSUES UNTIL LAST WED 2/7/18 WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ALL OF SUDDEN BOTH THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER WENT HAYWIRE AND STARTED JUMPING UP AND DOWN FROM 0 TO THE MAX, THEN BOTH THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE ABS LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE TEMP GAUGE DROPPED TO ZERO. I THOUGHT THAT THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO SHUT OFF BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. MY CAR WAS STILL DRIVING, BUT NONE OF THE GAUGES REGISTERED THAT THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND THE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS REMAINED ON. TODAY IS EXACTLY A WEEK FROM THAT INITIAL WARNING AND I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE ONCE THE CAR HAS BEEN IN DRIVE MODE FOR MORE THAN 20 MINS. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHO HAS MAINTAINED THE CAR SINCE MY PURCHASE FOR DIAGNOSIS ON 2/8/18 AND WAS TOLD AT THE TIME THAT THE ISSUE IS THE BAD ABS ACTUATOR AND ECM AND THAT BOTH PIECES ARE A PART OF THE CAR'S COMPUTER THAT SENDS THE SIGNAL FOR THE BRAKES TO STOP. I WAS ALSO TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT THERE WAS A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THE HYBRID CAMRY FOR THE SAME YEAR, AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS PLACED FOR THE HYBRID BUT NOT FOR MY CAMRY LE. I WAS SHOCKED BECAUSE THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD AND A ISSUE WITH FAULTY PARTS INSTALLED IN THE FIRST PLACE. NOW TOYOTA IS SAYING THE REPAIR IS $2500. THIS SHOULD BE INCLUDED ALONG WITH THE HYBRID UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAVE FOUND ON INTERNET SEARCHES THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE ISSUE SINCE AT 2010 BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED TO OFFER REPAIRS. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD WHEREAS THE DRIVER IS NEVER CERTAIN THAT THE BRAKES WILL WORK OR FAIL. I SAY THAT MAYBE THIS CAR SHOULD BE UNDER A FULL RECALL BECAUSE I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MY ENGINE IS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL, THEY TESTED IT MID YEAR 2017 AND I WAS JUST TOLD THAT MY CAR FAILED THE TEST AND NEEDS TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE ON THAT AS WELL AS THE ABS ACTUATOR.
THIS CAR TIRE WAS CHANGED WITH PRIMEWELL PS830/850 & IT HAS 40000 MILES OF WARRANTY. TIRE WAS REPLACED IN 2012. AT THE TIME CAR MILLAGE WAS 47282. NOW THE 2 TIRES ARE WORN OUT COMPLETELY & 1 TIRE IS SEPARATING OUT. I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES TODAY. TODAY MILLAGE OF THE CAR IS 80270 WHICH IS LESS THAN 40000 MILES. THIS TIRES ARE NOT GOOD FOR DRIVE & IT WILL CREATE SAFETY HAZARD. WHEN I CALLED PRIMEWELL THEY TOLD ME THAT TIRE HAS ONLY 5 YEARS OF WARRANTY, IF THEY GIVE ONLY 40K OR 5 YEARS OF WARRANTY THEN WHY NOT THEY WRITE IT DOWN IN TIRES. TODAY I REPLACED TIRES FROM FIRESTONE MOORESVILLE, NC 28117. SO I REQUEST YOU TO DO MORE INVESTIGATION ABOUT IT & PLEASE TAKE APPROPRIATE AN ACTIONS. I AM ATTACHING WHEN 1ST TIME TIRE WAS INSTALLED FIRESTONE COPY & TODAY I REPLACED WITH SAME TYPE OF TIRE COPY. ALSO ATTACHED PHOTOS OF SEPARATING TIRES COPY. RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED THAT AS I AM APPLYING THE BRAKE OR TAKING A CURVE MY OIL LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THERE IS AN ISSUE OF OIL CONSUMPTION THAT IS KNOWN. MY CAR AVERAGES USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 800-1200 MILES. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AT ALL.
STICKY DASH 'NOTIFICATION' OR LACK THEREOF, I CALLED TOYOTA TODAY TO ASK ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, SINCE THE CAR IS 3 MONTHS OUT OF THE SECONDARY WARRANTY I'M SCREWED AND STUCK WITH A STICKY, STINKING (COSTLY -$1600) MESS. I'VE TRIED CLEANING IN WITH NUMEROUS PRODUCTS SAFE FOR THE MATERIAL TO NO AVAIL, THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING ON IT. I DECIDED TODAY TO GOOGLE AND SEE IF I COULD FIND A CLEANER/RESOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM. I NOTICED RECENTLY THAT I WAS HAVING TO ADD OIL BETWEEN 3K OIL CHANGE. SINCE THEN I HABE DISCOVERED ONLINE THE TSB 0094-11. I RAN A CK ON THE ODOMETER AFTER ADDING OIL AND YES IT IS RIGHT AT 1200 MILES. THAT WOULD MEAN 2QTS OF OIL ADDED BETWEEN 3000 MI. OIL CHANGE.
SUN VISOR IS BROKEN -TOYOTA WILL NOT FIX IT.THEY SAID IT WAS EXPIRED IN 2015 & THEY WANT $150 TO FIX IT. IS THAT TRUE THE RECALL EXPIRED IN 2015? IT BROKE 1 YEAR AGO.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHEN COMING TO A STOP BY CAR WILL SHUT OFF. THE CAR WHEN SITTING HAS A ROUGH IDLE (400-500 RPM) WITH ALL HEAT/AC ETC TURNED OFF BUT CAN VARY AT TIMES OF AN IDLE OF 700-900RPM NOTABLY WHEN A/C IS ON IT DRAGS THE RPMS DOWN TO 300-400 AND WILL SHUDDER AT A STOP. THERE'S NO CODES ON DIAGNOSTICS, NO NOISES OR LACK OF ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. MAY BE WORTH MENTIONING THIS VEHICLE "PASSED' THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BUT I AM STILL ADDING A QT OF OIL EVERY 1200-1800 MILES. A SEARCH OF THE WEB SHOWS THIS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE BUT NO RESOLUTION. HELP?
NOT SURE IF THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD REPORT MY NEAR MISS. YESTERDAY I DID TRANSMISSION FLUSH ON MY 2009 CAMRY. AFTER COMPLETING THE TRASMISSION SERVICE, I HAD MY WIFE START THE CAR, SO I COULD CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL (PER OWNERS MANUAL); MY 17 MONTH OLD BABY BOY WAS ALSO WAS IN THE CAR. I REMOVED THE TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK AND CLEANED IT OFF. AS I REINSERTED THE DIPSTICK THERE WAS AN ARRAY OF SPARKES COMING FROM THE DIPSTICK. I REMOVED THE DIPSTICK AND INSPECTED WHAT HAD OCCURRED. IT APPEARS DURING THE PROCESS THE POSITIVE TERMINAL ON MY BATTERY GOT SLIGHTLY EXPOSED AND WHEN I REINSERTED THE DIPSTICK IT TOUCHED THE POSITIVE TERMINAL OF MY BATTERY AND WAS GROUNDED BY THE DIPSTICK TUBE. THE DIPSTICK SUSTAINED ELECTRICAL DAMAGE TO THE AREAS WHERE IT CONTACTED THE BATTERY AND DIPSTICK TUBE. LUCKILY NOTHING CAUGHT FIRE DURING THIS INCIDENT, FOR MY FAMILY WAS IN THE VEHICLE AND THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I'M JUST PASSING MY EXPERIENCE ALONG. THANK YOU,
