TOYOTA MATRIX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PASSENGER AIRBAG RECALL NOTICE (16V-340) ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE DRIVE SIDE WINDOW. *JB
MY FIANCE' AND I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA FOR A SAFETY RECALL TO REMEDY THE SPRIAL CABLE THAT CONTROLS THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. THE RECALL NOTICE TOLD US TO TAKE THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR FOR REPAIR THEY SAID IT HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED AND AFTER CHECKING WITH THE MANUFACTURER THEY STATED IT HAD BEEN FIXED ON MARCH 2, 2016 IN NJ. THE CAR WAS IN MARYLAND ON THAT DATE UNDER MY OWNERSHIP SO WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY COULD HAVE REPAIRED THE CAR. THEY WANT TO CHARGE US FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS AND POSSIBLY THE REPAIR SINCE THEY INSIST THAT THE CAR WAS ALREADY REPAIRED. WE HAVE AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT LOCATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL THAT WILL NOT GO OFF. THIS WARNING LIGHT IS THE SAME LIGHT ON THE RECALL NOTICE. TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO FIX IT WITHOUT A FEE, AND THEY BELIEVE THEY HAVE ALREADY FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE LIGHT REMAINS ON OUR CAR TO DATE. WE WOULD LIKE AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS MATER BEFORE SEEKING LEGAL COUNSEL TO RECTIFY THE SAFETY PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND DOES NOT GO OFF WHILE DRIVING THE CAR.

TAKATA RECALL--I RECEIVED A FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR NOTICE BACK IN AUGUST 2016 AND CALLED IMMEDIATELY TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. BEAMAN PONTIAC SAID THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THE PART WAS IN. I CALLED BACK IN JANUARY OF 2017 AND THEY SAID THE PART WAS STILL NOT IN. TODAY 8/16/17 THE PART IS STILL NOT IN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. IN JANUARY THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL AND I STILL HAVE IT. I WOULD LIKE MY CAR BACK. BUT I DON'T WANT THE LIABILITY OF SOMEONE RIDING IN MY CAR OR ME IN IT WITH MY HUSBAND DRIVING BEING KILLED AND TOYOTA NOT RESPONSIBLE SINCE I RECEIVED THIS NOTICE.

TOYOTA CONTACTED ME IN JULY 1016 OF THE AIR BAG RECALL, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. IT STATES NOT TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT IT IS DANGEROUS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE IN OVER A YEAR AND A HALF. I WANT MY CAR REPLCED WITH A SAFE ONE.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, UPPER BACK, AND NECK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. WE CALLED TOYOTA OF ORANGE 4 TIME SEANCE WE RECEIVED THE NOTICE THE LAST TIME WE WHERE TOLD TO GET AN ATTORNEY BY THE RECEPTIONIST. IF SERIOUS DEATH OR INJURY CAN BE CAUSED WHY DOESN'T TOYOTA OF ORANGE TAKE THE MATTER MORE SERIOUSLY. BEING TOLD OVER AND OVER THERE IS NO FIX AT THIS TIME, OR AS I SAID ABOVE " GET AN ATTORNEY". TAKATA RECALL THE RECALL WAS ISSUED IN MAY, 2016, AND I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A REMEDY. THAT IS 7 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY REMEDY. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE, AND IT LIMITS THIS ABILITY.

I JUST NARROWLY MISSED AN ACCIDENT WITH A TRAIN. MY CAR ENGINE SHUT OFF RIGHT OVER THE TRAIN TRACK TODAY. MY 2009 TOYOTA MATRIX FIRST PROBLEM STARTED STALLING SUDDENLY IN TRAFFIC LAST YEAR, BUT NOW VERY FREQUENTLY STALLS EVEN ON HIGHWAYS AT HIGH SPEEDS. NO WARNINGS. WHEN STALLED ALL LIGHTS COMES ON IN DASH, INCLUDING "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. COMPLETELY TURN OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTING IS THE ONLY WAY TO START THE CAR AGAIN. AFTER RESTARTING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OUT. OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN ALL SORTS OF WEATHER, BUT MORE FREQUENT ON HOT SUMMER DAYS. RESTART CLEARED ENGINE COMPUTER, DEALERSHIP HAD DIFFICULT TIME REPLICATING FAILURE. BUT, ADVISE TO REPLACEMENT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AS IT WAS A WELL KNOWN SAFETY RECALL FOR THE YEAR MODELS UP TO 2008. DEALER REFUSE TO ASSUME THE COST OF REPLACE THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM). WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR STALLS. EVERYTHING TURNS OFF AND I'M DEAD ON THE STREET, TURNPIKE OR HIGHWAY. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TWICE, BUT TOYOTA HAS NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING. SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT HAPPEN FOR A WHILE, AND THEN IT WILL START STALLING AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN AGAIN AFTER STALLING ON THE PA TURNPIKE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I AM STALLING ON CITY ROADS, HIGHWAYS, TURNPIKES, AND I RISK AN ACCIDENT OR BEING KILLED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. I HAVE INFORMED THE TOYOTA CAR DEALERSHIP THIS WILL BE THEIR LAST TIME TO FIND THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA MATRIX. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH AND COMING TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AS IF IT WOULD STALL. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
MY PASSENGER WINDOW STOPPED WORKING ( MY WINDOW IS HALF WAY OPEN) WHILE DRIVING IN 108 DEGREES WEATHER ( I LIVE IN YUMA AZ... THE HOTTEST CITY IN THE UNITED STATES). THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO TOYOTA DEALER IN YUMA AZ AND THEY TOLD ME TO COME BACK THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE THEY DIDNT HAVE A TECHNICIAN AVAILABLE, IT WAS AROUND 3:00 PM. THE NEXT DAY I STOPPED BY RIGHT AFTER WORK 3:00PM (WEATHER 108 DEGREES). EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE, I DROPPED OFF THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TELLS ME THAT HE DOESNT KNOW HOW LONG ITS GOING TO TAKE. 3:45PM HE CALLED AND ADVISED MY CAR WILL BE READY BEFORE 5:30PM, I WAS HAPPY. AT 4:00PM HE CALLED AGAIN AND TELLS ME THEY DONT HAVE THE PART TO FIX MY CAR, I WAS MAD. AT 5:00PM I WENT BACK TO TOYOTA DEALER TO PICK UP MY CAR AND ASKED THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TO PLEASE ADVISE THE TECHNICIAN CLOSE UP THE WINDOW UP BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME HOT WEATHER, THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID IT WASNT POSSIBLE. SO I GET IN MY CAR AND I STARTED IT AND I NOTICED MY CAR WAS SHAKING (REALLY BAD), SOMETHING IT WASNT DOING BEFORE. I PUT IT ON DRIVE BUT IT STARTED SHAKING EVEN MORE SO I CALLED THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AND TOLD HIM ABOUT IT, HE SAID TO COME BACK. THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS SOMETHING ABOUT THE BATTERY AND THE COMPUTER BEING DISCONNECTED AND NEEDED A RESET, I REALLY DONT KNOW BUT WHY THEY WERE GOING TO LET ME DRIVE OFF WITH MY CAR LIKE THAT? ITS UNSAFE. AFTER I WAITED ANOTHER HOUR I WAS FINALLY OUT OF THERE AND THEY TOLD ME TO COME BACK AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. SO TODAY JULY 17 AT 11:00AM THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE CALLED AND TOLD ME THE PART TO FIX MY CAR WASNT IN AND IT WASNT DOING TO BE IN UNTIL MONDAY...I AM VERY UPSET WITH THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE, AND THEY ARE NOT RESOLVING THE PROBLEM, IM CONCERN ABOUT MY SAFETY DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT (SAND STORMS) AND VEHICLE THEFT.
MY CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER I HAD STOPPED TO GET A HAIR CUT. I CLEANED THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO START. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IT WAS VERY HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL. I MANAGED TO DRIVE IT A HALF BLOCK TO A NAPA DEALER SO I COULD REPLACE THE BATTERY AND I WAS GOING TO BUY SOME POWER STEERING FLUID. I WAS SURPRISED I COULD NOT EVEN FIND THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR. AFTER I REPLACED THE BATTERY THE STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. MATRIX REAR ENDED A MERCURY MOUNTAINEER AT ABOUT 35-40 MILES PER HOUR. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE MATRIX WENT UNDER THE MOUNTAINEER'S BUMPER. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF MATRIX WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM. BOTH HEAD LIGHTS WERE PUSHED INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE BUMPER WAS ALMOST DETACHED AND ON THE GROUND. THE HOOD WAS PUSHED BACK ON ITSELF ABOUT 3 FEET.THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE MATRIX AND HER HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE SUFFERED A CONCUSSION. *TR

WHEN STALLED ALL LIGHTS COMES ON IN DASH, INCLUDING "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. COMPLETELY TURN OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTING IS THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS ISSUE AT THAT TIME. AFTER RESTARTING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OUT. OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN ALL SORTS OF WEATHER, BUT MORE FREQUENTLY IN HOT SUMMER DAYS. YESTERDAY STALLED 4 TIMES WITHIN 90 MINUTES DRIVE. RESTART CLEARED ENGINE COMPUTER DEALERSHIP HAD DIFFICULT TIME REPLICATING FAILURE. BUT, ADVISED REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AT A COST OF OVER $1000. SINCE THIS YEAR MODEL NOT RECALLED BY TOYOTA YET. I DO NOT KNOW HOW OR WHERE TO COMPLAIN SO THAT TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FIX THIS AT THEIR EXPENSE. *TR

I TOOK MY 2009 TOYOTA INTO MY LOCAL TIRE DEALER TO HAVE IT ALIGNED. MENTIONED THAT IT WAS PULLING TO THE LEFT AT HIGHWAYSPEEDS AND KIND OF BOBBLING WHEN I STARTED UP. SERVICE MAN SAID IT MIGHT BE THE TIRES, NOT THE ALIGNMENT. IT WAS. THE THREE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THE CAR, THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT NOT WARRANTED, ALL SHOWED TREAD SEPARATION. (HE ALSO SAID HE'D "NEVER SEEN THIS KIND OF PROBLEM ON THREE TIRES AT ONE TIME.)THE STEEL BELTS WERE COMING THROUGH THE TREAD. THE MAN SAID THAT DRIVING ON THE TIRES MIGHT BE DANGEROUS, SO I HAD TO PUT NEW TIRES ON IT--NOT GOODYEAR. THE FOURTH TIRE, WHICH I PUT ON THE CAR A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO (WHEN THE SIDEWALL BUBBLED) WAS FINE--PLENTY OF TREAD, NO SIGNS OF WEAR THAT MIGHT HAVE COME FROM POOR MAINTENANCE. NOTE THAT YOUR FORM ONLY ALLOWS ME TO NOTE ONE TIRE LOCATION. THREE TIRES ALL SHOWED THE SAME PROBLEM. CAR WAS PARKED. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING HAD CEASED TO FUNCTION AND WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT FOR THE POWER STEERING, ABS AND BRAKES. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE POWER STEERING UNIT FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR ISSUES RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING LOCKING UP. LUCKILY I WAS NOT DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME. *TR

LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED ON THE PARKING LOT, AND NOT ON MY WAY BACK HOME (TRIP ON THE HIGHWAY) WHICH FOR SURE WOULD RESULTED IN CAR ACCIDENT WITH SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. I WAS DRIVING ON A SECONDARY HIGHWAY GOING BETWEEN 80 AND 100 KPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. I WAS TRAVELING ALONG IN TOP GEAR AT AN RPM OF 2000-2500 - WHEN I NOTICED THAT I WAS ENTERING A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHERE TRAFFIC WAS HALTED. I HAD JUST BEGUN TO TRAVEL UP A HILL TOWARD THE HALTED TRAFFIC. AS THE CAR STARTED UP THE HILL, I NOTICED THAT THE RPMS HAD DROPPED AND CAUSED THE GEARS TO SHIFT DOWN INTO A LOWER GEAR WITH HIGHER RPM TO PULL THE CAR UP THE HILL. ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY OF THE CAR SHIFTING GEARS, I PRESSED THE BRAKES HARD TO BEGIN STOPPING. I WAS ALARMED AS I FELT THE CAR STRUGGLING TO ACCELERATE HARD AGAINST MY BRAKING. THE BRAKING HAD NOT DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL. I PRESSED THE BRAKES HARDER. THEN, THINKING THE CAR MIGHT BE CONFUSED, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES BEFORE PRESSING THE BRAKES HARD AGAIN. I STILL FELT THE CAR STRUGGLING TO ACCELERATE HARD AGAINST THE HARD BRAKING. I HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND THE TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL BY PRESSING THE BUTTON ON THE END OF THE CRUISE CONTROL STICK. IMMEDIATELY, THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION STOPPED AND THE BRAKING WAS EFFECTIVE TO STOP THE CAR. I HAVE NEVER AGAIN EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM OF CRUISE CONTROL NOT DISENGAGING UPON BRAKING. I SUSPECTED THAT THE SEQUENCE OF BRAKING BEGINNING ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY TO THE GEARS SHIFTING MAY HAVE CAUSED THE CONFUSION IN THE CRUISE CONTROL. THAT COULD MAKE THE ISSUE A SOFTWARE PROBLEM IN CRUISE CONTROL AS OPPOSED TO A MECHANICAL BRAKING PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE ROTATING THE TIRES ON MY 2009 MATRIX I NOTICED THE INSIDE SIDEWALL WAS SEPARATING (SPLITTING) AROUND THE WHOLE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF SIDEWALL DAMAGE FROM A HIT OR ACCIDENT, THE SIDEWALL IS JUST FAILING. WE SPENT 671.10 TO REPAIR THE REAR LEFT AND THE MECHANIC SAID WE WILL MOST LIKELY NEED TO DO THE REAR RIGHT IN THE FUTURE. I CALLED TOYOTA REIMBURSEMENT DEPT. ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO NOTHING SINCE IT'S OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD OF 36K. THEY SAID IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. MY POINT TO THEM WAS HOW CAN YOU ISSUE A TSB IN 2009 ON A 2009 MODEL AND NOT BACK THIS PROBLEM UP FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR? THEY KNOW THE SENSOR IS GOING TO GO BAD MOST LIKELY, IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT NO RECALL WAS EVER ISSUED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS BUSINESS PRACTICE!
