THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PARKER TOYOTA (470 W KATHLEEN AVE, COEUR D'ALENE, ID 83815, (208) 765-8228) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT AND ONLY OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. *PM *TP

TURNED LEFT AT A GREEN LIGHT THEN TRUCK SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH COMING TO A SCHOOL ZONE WITH LIGHTS FLASHING AND BUSY ROAD AHEAD I SEEN PARKED BMW. THE TRUCK WAS NEW TO ME AND HAD SLAP SHIFTER SO WHEN I MOVED IT FOR NEUTRAL IT HAD TO BE PUSHED OVER AND UP. I JUST WENT OVER AND WITH LITTLE TIME AND BUSY INTERSECTION AND CHILDREN. I PICKED THE BMW THOUGHT GOOD CRASH RATING. SLAMMED THE OVER BMW AND KEPT GOING TIL STRUCK A POWER POLE BREAKING IT. THERE WAS WITNESS BEHIND ME STATED 'I WAS DRIVING NORMAL THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND VIER LEFT.' I HIT THE BMW SQUARE WITH MY ARMS PROTECTING MY FACE WHICH IS EVIDENT FROM PICTURES.
MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO DISPLAY THE VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL) LIGHT, CONSTANTLY ON, LAST WEEK WHEN I TURNED IT ON. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT ALSO BECAME CONSTANTLY ON. I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS GIVING THE FOLLOWING CODES: C1203 - ECM COMMUNICATION CIRCUIT C1232 - DECELERATION SENSOR C1336 - ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF DECELERATION SENSOR UNDONE THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO TRY TO RE-FLASH THE COMPUTER AND CALIBRATE AFFECTED ITEMS BUT IF IT WASN'T POSSIBLE THAT THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY, YAW SENSOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT, TOTALING $1305. 2 HOURS LATER HE CALLED ME BACK TO TELL ME THAT THEY COULDN'T RE-FLASH THE COMPUTER AND THAT THE ISSUE IS NOT THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY, YAW SENSOR BUT THE ABS ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY, TOTALING OVER $2700. I'M REPORTING THIS SINCE I'VE SEEN A BUNCH OF SIMILAR CASES BUT NOTHING CONCRETE FROM TOYOTA. I REALLY DON'T KNOW IF THIS ISSUE IS UN-SAFE OR NOT SINCE THERE ARE NO PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS EXCEPT NOT HAVING ABS NOR TRACTION CONTROL.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,858.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING AFTER BRAKING THE TRUCK THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A SEVERE VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK. IT FELT LIKE A LOOSE WHEEL. AFTER HAVING IT TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS I DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAD BECOME SOMEWHAT FROZEN IN THE BRAKE SHOE BRACKET. THE PAD BRACKET IS MADE FROM A METAL THAT ROAD SALT BLISTERS AND IT BECOMES VERY ROUGH NOT LETTING THE BRAKE PARTICULARLY THE INNER PAD TO RETRACT. THE SHOE IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM THE BRACKET AND THE BRACKET HAS TO BE WIRED BRUSHED AND SANDED SO THAT THE BRAKE PAD CAN GLIDE EASILY. TWO OF MY SONS ALSO HAVE TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCKS ONE IS A 2010 AND THE OTHER IS A 2014 AND HAVE BOTH EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THEY ALSO HAD TO REMOVE THE BRAKES AND SAND THE BRACKET. THIS LOCKING OF THE PAD ALSO RUINS THE PADS CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR AND ALSO RUINS THE INNER SURFACE OF THE ROTOR. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE OF THE BRAKING ABILITY AND THE PREMATURE WEAR OF THE ROTOR AND BRAKE PADS.
FRONT DISC BRAKE ROTORS WARPED CAUSING FRONT END SHAKE UNDER HARD BRAKING. LOCAL DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO WARRANTY AS IT WAS A GRAY AREA. *KB
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE AT A STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL EASES TO THE FLOOR TO THE POINT IT IS NEARLY TOUCHING THE FLOORBOARD. THE TRUCK HAS THE TENDENCY TO LURCH OR EASE FORWARD. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AS IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO REAR-END ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE STOPPED OR A PEDESTRIAN. I ONLY HAVE 3500 MILES ON MY TRUCK AND IT JUST STARTED. IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS GROWING, BUT TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADDRESS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT WAS BRAKING FROM 30 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT PROCEEDED TO CRASH INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED YET THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE SHOULDER, BACK AND RIGHT LEG. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE. THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY INVESTIGATED THE FAILURE AND DETERMINED IT WAS CAUSED BY THE FLOOR MAT BECOMING LODGED BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,500.
2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREWMAX, CURRENT MILEAGE 16,752. FOR THE LAST MONTH OR SO WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, WAITING FOR A LIGHT ETC. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL WILL SLOWLY GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE MAT. THE VEHICLE STILL REMAINS BRAKED, EVEN WHEN THE PEDAL IS ALL THE WAY DOWN. RELEASE OF THE PEDAL AND IMMEDIATE REAPPLICATION OF THE BRAKES RESULTS IN AN INITIAL NORMAL PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY THE PEDAL SLOWLY GOING TO THE FLOOR. WHEN THE ENGINE IS OFF AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, NO MATTER HOW MUCH FORCE IS APPLIED, THE BRAKE PEDAL DOES NOT SINK TO THE FLOOR. SO FAR THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE HAD ANY ADVERSE EFFECT ON THE NORMAL BRAKING. TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO THE DEALER, THEY TEST DROVE IT, SAID THEY HAD IT HAPPEN, BUT THAT TOYOTA BRAKES WERE DIFFERENT AND THAT THEY HAD ANOTHER TUNDRA IN THE SHOP WHICH DID THE SAME THING. THEY ALSO SAID THAT ANOTHER TUNDRA OWNER HAD COMPLAINED OF THE SAME ISSUE AND THE TOYOTA REP HAD CHECKED IT OUT AND DECLARED IT NORMAL. THEY THEN TOLD ME THERE WAS A 2ND RECALL ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND REQUESTED THAT THEY PERFORM IT. I AGREED. LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE PAPERWORK STATING "NO PROBLEM FOUND". I WOULD ASSUME IT WOULD BE NORMAL IF THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR FROM DAY ONE, IT DIDN'T. I WOULD PRESUME THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER IS FINE AS THE PEDAL IS SOLID WITH THE ENGINE OFF. MAYBE A SEAL LEAK WITHIN THE ABS BLOCK? NO APPARENT BRAKE FLUID LOSS, THE RESERVOIR HAS NOT DROPPED. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA NEW IN JULY 2009. SINCE THAT TIME, THE GAS PEDAL ISSUE HAS BEEN SUPPOSEDLY REMEDIED TWICE AND THE FLOOR MATS HAVE NOW BEEN CHANGED OUT. HOWEVER, A NEW ISSUE HAS BEGUN RECENTLY WITH MY VEHICLE IN JULY 2010. WHEN DESCENDING MOUNTAIN HIGHWAYS, THE TRUCK BEGINS TO SHUDDER WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. I DO NOT RIDE MY BRAKES GOING DOWN THESE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAYS AND TYPICALLY SHIFT DOWN TO LOWER SPEED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ITS QUARTERLY MAINTENANCE AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID I WOULD PROBABLY NEED A BRAKE JOB AND I REPLIED THAT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE AS THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 15K MILES AND I AM NOT HARD ON BRAKES. I ASKED THAT THEY CHECK THE ROTORS AS I THOUGHT THEY MIGHT BE WARPED. AFTER THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED THE VEHICLE, THEY FOUND A WARPED ROTOR AND MACHINED IT BACK TO TOLERANCE. A WEEK LATER, I AM DRIVING THE SAME MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY WHEN I DISCOVERED THE ISSUE AND IT IS DOING THE SAME EXACT THING. I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES AND NEED TO BE CORRECTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SMELL EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES, ROTORS, AND THE CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
THE 2000-2003 MODEL YEAR TOYOTA TUNDRAS HAVE A KNOWN BRAKE ENGINEERING DEFECT. THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS ARE TOO SMALL CAUSING ROUTINE OVERHEATING OF THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. THIS CONDITION WARPS THE BRAKE ROTORS AND CAUSES AN UNSAFE AND UNPREDICTABLE BRAKE RESPONSE. REPEATED RE-SURFACING OR REPLACEMENT OF THE ROTORS ALWAYS RESULTS IN THE RECURRENCE OF THE WARPAGE DUE TO THE IMPROPERLY SIZED FRONT CALIPERS. TOYOTA QUIETLY ISSUED A TSB IN THE EARLY 2000'S THAT MANDATED INSTALLATION OF LARGER CALIPERS AND REPLACEMENT OF OTHER AFFECTED PARTS. THIS "FIX" HAS NOT BEEN COMMON KNOWLEDGE AMONG AFFECTED CONSUMERS. THIS TSB NOT ONLY ACKNOWLEDGES THE ORIGINAL DESIGN FLAW BUT CONTAINS SPECS AND THE SPECIFIC REMEDY ! *TR
