This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 100,000 and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 250,000.
Took my 2010 Tundra in for service at a local repair shop and was told that my frame has severe rust on the frame and is in poor condition. I am worried about the safety of this vehicle for me and my family. I am the only owner of the truck and purchased it brand new. What can be done? Thank you
Rusting frame on the vehicle leading to potential cracks and creating safety concerns. Truck has low miles and been well maintained. This is my second Toyota truck with a rusted frame. No help or support from Toyota on my concerns with the 2010 Tundra.
Gas Pump: Over the last few months, the vehicle has stalled twice, with the engine not functioning. Upon turning the ignition switch, the starter engages and the engine cranks, but it does not sustain operation. In both cases, the vehicle was able to start and run only after numerous attempts, exceeding 10 to 15, while consistently pressing the gas pedal.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while the vehicle was in for inspection, the mechanic discovered corrosion present on the subframe of the vehicle. The contact stated that along with corrosion, the subframe was cracked and had several holes. The cause of the damage was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failures, but no assistance was provided. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not eligible for the manufacturer's Extended Warranty coverage for the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000.
I am writing to formally bring to your attention a troubling situation I have encountered regarding the purchase of a vehicle that I believe constitutes fraud. On [XXX], I, [XXX] , purchased a 2010 Toyota Tundra from Beaverton Car Company in Beaverton, Oregon. I agreed to a high-interest loan, expecting to refinance the vehicle shortly thereafter. However, upon attempting to trade the vehicle on September 13, 2024, I learned that the outstanding loan balance exceeded the truck's value due to an illegal odometer rollback. The dealer informed me that the odometer had been rolled back prior to the auction from which they acquired the vehicle; at the time of sale, it displayed 81,000 miles but had actually accrued 268,000 miles. Despite signing the CARFAX indicating a “potential odometer rollback,” I was misled regarding the vehicle’s actual mileage. This significant discrepancy has caused financial distress and I believe it breaches legal statutes regarding odometer accuracy. Given the dealership’s dishonesty and the impact on my financing arrangements, I am seeking a full refund for the vehicle. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your guidance on how to proceed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My 2010 Toyota Tundra is like new and only has 56,000 miles on it. I ordered new tires and when I brought it to have the tires installed I was told me the frame was rusted through and they couldn’t lift it off the ground. They were concerned with me driving it and suggested that I bring it to my Toyota dealership and see what they could do. The dealership said there was nothing they could do because there was no recall on my vehicle. I asked if they could look at it to see it was safe to drive, and was told there would be a $167 to just look a my vehicle. I called Toyota Customer Service (800-331-4331) to complain and opened case# 23122000824. I called a frame shop to make an appointment to have it looked at and was told that they get lots of Tundra’s in with rotted frames. Apparently Toyota is ignoring this problem. They had an issue with rusted frames on the Toyota Tacoma and they issued a recall.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact stated that when she arrived at her destination her husband noticed something hanging from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with a rusted rear fuel tank strap. The contact was informed that the fuel tank strap needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.
Rusted frame failed PA state inspection. This has been a well maintained vehicle and should not be experiencing that much corrosion.
I received a check engine light for the secondary injection system. Toyota extended the warranty but wont honor issues after 10 years, even though the truck has less than 100K miles. This is a safety issue as the trucks performance is altered and concerned about passing a car on a two lane highway. The repair can range from $2K to $4K pending on the dealer.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving at 30 MPH, the contact suffered a blackout and struck the side rail causing major damage to the front end of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact had several injuries. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 800. The VIN was not available.
I can’t drive to back only to the from. When I did to back I listen is stocked.
Premature corrosion of frame. I had the truck into the shop for an unrelated issue when the service tech discovered holes in the vehicle frame. The technician was uncomfortable working on the vehicle on the lift because it is a safety hazard. Toyota claims my vehicle was not included in any of the previous frame recalls or service programs, and while bad steel is a known issue with Toyota, they are unwilling to replace the frame on my truck because all previous recalls were VIN specific. My vehicle has no surface rust, but has enough frame corrosion to deter trained service technicians from working on it. If the frame is unsafe to be working on, it is unsafe to put my family in, and Toyota is permitting the sale and use of unsafe vehicles.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for an inspection, the mechanic informed her that the subframe was severely corroded and unable to haul the weight of a camper. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 74,300.
While driving my Tundra, I heard a bumping and scraping sound beneath the truck. Upon further examination, the front Fuel Tank strap had corroded and broken into 2 pieces leaving only the rear fuel tank strap to retain the fuel tank.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that the rear leaf springs had separated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear leaf springs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the driver's side Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve had been replaced twice. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the passenger's side PCV valve was faulty. The mechanic replaced the passenger's side PCV valve. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was 61,606.
The chassis on my 2010 Tundra is badly rusted. The rust is also evident in the bed of the truck. I was informed of the rust during my quarterly servicing of the vehicle. I was recently informed the rust has gotten really bad.
The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the rear seat belt was inoperable. The contact stated that the clasp failed to close. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the pin was open and causing the latch to fail to close securely. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,361.
The frame of my truck has developed an unsafe amount of rust.
