The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the driver's side Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve had been replaced twice. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the passenger's side PCV valve was faulty. The mechanic replaced the passenger's side PCV valve. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was 61,606.
ENGINE LEAKING OIL WHILE RUNNING AT THE CAM TOWERS ON BOTH SIDES CAUSES OIL TO DRIP ONTO ENGINE EXHAUST HEADER. THIS UNSAFE CONDITION COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THIS CONDITION HAPPENS TO ALL 4.6 AND 5.7 TUNDRA AND SEQUOIA ENGINES PRODUCED AFTER 2007. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURE MADE THESE ENGINES WITH INFERIOR SEALANT AT THE CAM TOWERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE NORMALLY, BUT THE ACCELERATION POWER WAS LOST AND THE WARNING INDICATOR WAS STILL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
I WAS DRIVING NORMALLY DOWN THE ROAD AFTER WORK AND THE VEHICLE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND WOULDN'T GO OVER 40 MPH. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER IN MORRISTOWN, TN. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON A OXYGEN PUMP UP TO 150,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND THAT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS OVER 150,OOO MILES THAT IT WOULDN'T BE COVERED AND IT COST OVER 2,000 TO FIX IT. I WROTE A LETTER TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T COVER IT BECAUSE IT WAS MY FAULT I DIDN'T CHECK FOR RECALLS WHEN I BOUGHT IT USED . THEY NEVER SENT ME A RECALL LETTER ON THIS AT ALL , I HAD BOUGHT IT AT AROUND 126,000 MILES AND RECEIVED NO RECALL LETTERS WHEN IT WOULD OF BEEN COVERED. THIS IS MY COMPLAINT THAT MAYBE YOU CAN HELP ME . I CAN NOT AFFORD TO FIX SOMETHING LIKE THIS. I SHOULD OF BEEN NOTIFIED. THEY SAID IT WAS MY FAULT I DIDN'T CHECK FOR RECALLS NOT THEIR PROBLEM.
MY TUNDRA HAS 48048 MILES ON IT. I TOOK MY TUNDRA IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A OIL LEAK IN THE CAM TOWER. THE COST TO FIX IT WAS $2850. IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I DID A LITTLE SEARCHING AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS OCCURRED FREQUENTLY IN THIS ENGINE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD, AFTER THEY CONSULTED WITH THE DEALER, THAT THE PROBLEM WASN'T A DEFECT, BUT CAUSED BY ENGINE WEAR AND ALTITUDE. THEY OFFERED TO PAY FOR PARTS, WHICH WERE $420. IF IT IS REALLY ENGINE WEAR, I EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN. IN TALKING TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THIS IS A ONE TIME FIX, AND IT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT HERE. EITHER IT IS A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE AND THIS REPAIR WILL FIX IT. OR IT IS NORMAL WEAR AND THIS WILL KEEP HAPPENING. I FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA SHOULD FIX, SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING FREQUENTLY. MANY PEOPLE REPORTED IT HAPPENING WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. MINE JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE OCCURRED AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. EITHER WAY, IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO HAVE THIS HAPPENING IN THIS ENGINE WITH LOW MILEAGE. APPARENTLY THE OIL LEAKS DOWN FROM THE ENGINE ONTO THE EXHAUST PART OF THE VEHICLE AND CAN CAUSE FIRES. IT ALSO CAN LEAK OUT AND CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE IF THE OIL GETS TOO LOW. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME.
I BOUGHT MY 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA BRAND NEW IN FEB. 2010, DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AT TOYOTA DEALER RECENTLY, ENGINE OIL LEAKING WAS NOTICED BY THE TECHNICIAN. THE REPAIR WAS DONE TO RESEAL BOTH CAM BOX HOUSINGS AND REPLACED SEALS AND GASKETS THAT ARE RELATED. IT COSTED OVER $1800. UNFORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE JUST PASSED THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, SINCE IT HAS BEEN 5 YEAR AND 11 MONTHS, BUT THE MILEAGE IS AT 38,000, RELATED LOW. I HAVE CONTACED TOYOTA US HEADQUARTER, TOLD THEM THE OIL LEAKING MOST LIKELY STARTED BEFORE 5 YEARS MARK, BUT IT WAS JUST DISCOVERED NOW. THEY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE REPAIR COST. THE DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN MANY TUNDRA HAD THIS OIL LEAK ISSUE, AND MOST OF THEM WERE WITHIN WARRANTY, SO THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE SO FAR, I ALSO DID RESEARCH ON INTERNET, FOUND OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS OIL LEAK ISSUE FOR THEIR 2010 TUNDRA AND 2011 TUNDRA. I WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS WIDE SPREAD ISSUE AND HOPEFULLY LET TOYOTA DO A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT!
I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED, AND I BARELY MANAGED TO GET MY TRUCK TO THE TOYOTA OF DALLAS DEALERSHIP, WHERE I HAD BOUGHT MY VEHICLE. THEY FOUND THAT BETWEEN THE VALVE BLOCK AND VALVE THERE WAS A RING THAT HAD COME LOOSE THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL. WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL I COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING AND THE BRAKE STOPPED FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I AM A SAFE DRIVER AND HAD MAINTAINED A SAFE DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THOSE IN FRONT OF ME AT ALL TIMES, BUT THE SITUATION I WAS IN WAS VERY HAZARDOUS BECAUSE WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STALL IT MADE IT VERY HARD FOR ME TO MANAGE MY VEHICLE. BECAUSE I FELT THAT THERE WAS NO PARTICULAR REASON FOR THE VALVES TO BE DAMAGED, I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE ENGINE MYSELF AND FOUND THAT THE TOYOTA V8 4.6 LITER ENGINE IS ALSO IN THE LEXUS LS460 AND RX460. THE ENGINE HAS ALREADY BEEN RECALLED BY LEXUS BECAUSE OF ISSUES WITH LOOSE SPRINGS, SO I THINK THE SUDDEN DAMAGE TO MY ENGINE MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE SAME REASON. IN SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC, REPETITIVE LIGHT GAS AND LIGHT BRAKING. NOTICED THE BRAKE BECOMING DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. HAD MY LEFT FOOT STATIONARY ON THE FOOT PAD, RIGHT FOOT OVER THE BRAKE WHILE ROLLING FORWARD. ON OCT 7,2010,WE PURCHASED A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. OUR VEHICLE IS 2 MONTHS OLD AND HAS ALREADY HAD A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS 2276 MILES. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY HUSBAND HEARD A LOUD BANG. HE PULLED OVER AND OIL WAS GUSHING EVERY WHERE. HE HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. WE WERE TOLD THE VEHICLE THREW A ROD AND WENT INTO THE BOTTOM PART OF THE ENGINE, REQUIRING A COMPLETE ENGINE REBUILD. HAS NOT BEEN REPAIR YET, AWAITING PARTS. WE WERE ALSO TOLD, THERE HAD BEEN OTHER VEHICLES WITH BAD RODS. THE ONLY THING TOYOTA WANTS TO OFFER ME IS A PLATINUM WARRANTY-8YRS,125,000 MILES. I HAVEN'T DECIDED YET BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN SIMILAR CASES SUCH AS OURS. I PURCHASED ON 2010 TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB 4X4 WITH A 5.7 V-8 ENGINE ON AUGUST 1, 2010. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY 2010 TUNDRA HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE FIRST SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM OCCURRED ON 08/26/2010 (1,097 MILES) WHILE BEING DRIVEN ABOUT 10-15 MPH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE 4X4 LO AND RSCA LIGHTS WERE FLASHING WHILE POWER WAS LOST/REDUCED TO ENGINE/TRANMISSION. ON 8/27/2010, THE SELLING DEALER CHECKED THE CONNECTIONS AFTER RECEIVING CODES C1201 AND P060A AND CLAIMED THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED. THE SECOND TIME WAS ON 09/26/2010 (2,312 MILES) I WAS DRIVING 55-60 MPH WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON AS BEFORE AND I LOST/REDUCED POWER TO THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS TIME THE A LOCAL DEALER VERIFIED THAT CODE P060A RETURNED AND CLAIMED THE CAUSE WAS A BAD ECM PROCESSOR. THEY REPLACED THE ECM PROCESSOR CLAIMING THE VEHICLE WAS FIXED. THE THIRD TIME WAS ON OCTOBER 31, 2010, (2,480 MILES) THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND BEING WARMED UP WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE THE VEHICLE THEN TO SEE IF IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH POWER LOSS TO THE ENGINE. AGAIN THERE WAS REDUCED POWER TO THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION. NOTIFIED TOYOTA WHO HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED IN AND THEY RECOVERED CODE P1614. THIS TIME THE DEALER CLAIMED THE PROBLEM WAS THE R&R AIR ASSEMBLY STATING THIS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, REPLACED IT AND CLAIMED THEY HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM. TOYOTA CORPORATION AND MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP BOTH HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THIS SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING. ON 11/9/2010, THE ARBITRATION THE BOARD RELATED THAT "THERE HAVE NOT BEEN AN UNREASONABLE NUMBER OF REPAIRS FOR THE SAME NONCONFORMITY." THEREFORE, THEY DENIED MY CLAIM FOR A NEW VEHICLE. AN ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN/REDUCED POWER TO THE ENGINE CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE TO ME IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM.

ANOTHER TOYOTA RECALL??? MY NEW 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH 2,500 MILES HAD A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY (THE ENGINE BLEW OUT ON THE TRUCK). I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG. I PULLED OVER AND ENGINE OIL WAS DUMPING OUT OF THE ENGINE ONTO THE GROUND. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO STEVINSON WEST TOYOTA - THEY TOOK THE ENGINE APART AND FOUND MULTIPLE HOLES IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THEY ARE STILL NOT TELLING ME THE SOURCE OF THIS ENGINE FAILURE. TOYOTA IS TELLING ME THIS IS A ONE TIME OCCURRENCE, BUT I HAVE BEEN FINDING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH OTHER TUNDRA'S (2007-2010), INCLUDING A USA TODAY ARTICLE FROM 2007, "TOYOTA FIXING ENGINE FAILURES IN NEW TUNDRA TRUCKS." AND, WHILE OUR TRUCK HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP, WE SPOKE WITH ANOTHER TUNDRA OWNER (2009; IN THE SAME SHOP) WHO HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE. AT APPROXIMATELY 11,000 MILES MY TRUCK ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND WOULD SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON APRIL 16, 2010. IT TYPICALLY HAPPENS AFTER MY TRUCK IS WARMED UP - ABOUT AN HOUR OF DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN STALLED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, ON I-275, ON SR 60 AND ALMOST STALLED ON SOME RAILROAD TRACKS. I HAVE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO VARIOUS TOYOTA DEALERS FOR REPAIRS (DEPENDING ON WHERE I BROKE DOWN). THE SERVICE PEOPLE HAVE CHANGED OUT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, FUEL PUMP, OXYGEN SENSORS, CAM-SHAFT SENSORS AND COMPUTER HARDWARE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED THEN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITH DIFFICULTY; HOWEVER, IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO ACCELERATE. WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALER, HE TRIED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL IN THE PARKING LOT AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND UNTIL HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TWICE. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR AND LATER STATED THAT IT WAS THE ECU. THE DEALER CALLED HIM AGAIN AND STATED THAT ONE OF THE LIFTERS IN THE ENGINE WAS BENT AND THEY WOULD ORDER THE PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO ASK FOR A NEW VEHICLE AND A REPRESENTATIVE TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS UP TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100. UPDATED 3/10/10 *CN THE DEALER FOUND LOSS OF COMPRESSION AND MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRES. THEY RAN A COMPRESSION TEST, AND FOUND CYLINDER #8 AT ZERO. THEY REMOVED THE CYLINDER HEAD AND FOUND AN OPEN BOLT LODGED IN THE VALVE HOLDING IT OPEN. UPDATED 05/17/10
