Instrument panel shuts down while driving on street. I believe it is the central electronic module that fails. It has happened numerous times and it is unsafe to drive without a speedometer, tachometer, odometer fuel gauge, and temperature gauge. It has now stopped altogether. Gauges just sit there and bounce
Unsure of what the issue is with the vehicle but smells like gas in my garage and I found a recall I was never notified about I moved from Washington to Las Vegas and never received any info regarding the fuel pump recall as well as a noise that’s been going on for a year now when I drive at 60 miles an hour I’ve had it looked at and no one seems to know what that issue is
Few days ago I came home, parked the car inside the garage and went inside. An hour later I went to the garage for something and noticed a very strong gasoline odor coming from the car. It is not coming from the reservoir and I did not put any fuel recently, so it can't be explained with a fuel spill. I suspect it is coming from the fuel pump. I as hoping or it to goo away, but it did not. It has been a week already.
The rear right door cannot be open from inside the car. It opens fine from outside. I am aware there is a child safety lock, but in this case the problem is somewhere else. Regardless of the child safety lock position, the door cannot be open. This is a hazard, because in case oof an accident the passenger will e trapped inside the car.
Unknown..but water accumulated under the passenger seat under the amp and electrical components after a storm or rainy day.and its a lot of water when I brake i can hear a water fall..and water rushing and moving along the bottom. Of the car as I am steering im worried that the wiring and electrical will be damaged by water exposure the battery always dies wires soaked and sitting in water underneath passenger and never can completely get the moisture smell out of front seat area..mildew..why is this water leaking or not draining correctly ??
The contact owns a 2004 Volvo XC90. The contact stated that after his wife started the vehicle, she smelled the odor of gasoline. The contact had been advised by his wife that the vehicle was taking longer to start up and sometimes required two or three attempts to start the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V483000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 212,000.
On May 26, 2022, I was stuck in traffic for four hours, and the car's CEM (central electronic module) overheated causing the dashboard to shut down three times, meaning I lost all instrument readings. After each time the dashboard shut down, I had to pull over and reset fuse #27 to have the dashboard come back online temporarily. Because the CEM was already overheated due to its design flaw with improper ventilation, the dashboard would shut down again and again. A Google search would show this is a very common issue for 2004 Volvo models and before. Driving without any instrument readings is totally unsafe. I strongly urge you to force Volvo to issue a recall for 2004 and before models and fix the CEM overheating problem.
While driving on the highway "SRS urgent" text came on, also hear clicking sounds under dash on driver side, then dashboard indicator lights completely disappear (speed, fuel, temperature, etc) . Extremely hot under driver side dash. Fortunately, still able to steer and brake. This has happened twice now. Mechanic believes most likely CEM failure or DIM failure. My vehicle also has a wet A-pillar fabric (Volvo forums indicate possible cause of failure). I removed drivers A-pillar and found a clogged drain tube from the sunroof. However, did not notice any obvious signs of water inside the vehicle, though it hasnt rained for over a month when this happened.
INSIDE SMELLS OF GASOLINE AFTER STARTING, AND WHILE DRIVING. PERSISTENT. NAUSEATING WHILE DRIVING. WINDOWS MUST BE LET DOWN WHILE DRIVING.
THE FUEL PUMP UNDER THE BACK SEAT IS CRACKED AND LEAKING FUEL. THIS IS REFERENCED IN NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 09V483000. O'STEEN VOLVO IN JACKSONVILLE REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE WAS EVER A PROBLEM WITH THIS. IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET.THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE AS IS. THE CAR IS SOAKED WITH GASOLINE. APPARENTLY THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING DRIES OUT FROM HEAT AND CRACKS. WE NEED SOME HELP HERE. IT WOULD BE BETTER IF SOMEONE IN SAINT AUGUSTINE FLORIDA COULD DO THIS RECALL WORK FOR US AS WE REALLY DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH O'STEEN AFTER THEY HAVE BLOWN US OFF.

I AM CONCERNED THESE 2 ISSUES MAY POSE A SAFETY RISK. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM A FRIEND AND HAVE HAD IT ABOUT A MONTH. I NOTICE THE STEERING IS VERY STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. I WAS TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON THIS BUT HAVING NO LUCK. ALSO, WHEN THE CAR IS IN GEAR "DRIVE", WHEN STOPPED ON AN INCLINE (EVEN THE SLIGHTEST HILL) I NOTICE THAT WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CAR ROLLS BACKWARDS! IT SHOULDN'T DO THAT. THE TRANSMISSION NOTICE ON THE DASH IS SAYING IT NEEDS SERVICE BUT MY FRIEND I BOUGHT IT FROM SAID SHE HAD IT CHECKED TWICE AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION ISSUE. IS THERE A RECALL ON POWER-TRAIN/TRANS PARTS? THE CAR SHOULD NOT ROLL BACKWARDS WHEN IN GEAR "DRIVE", EVEN IF I AM STOPPED ON A HILL. EVEN A SLIGHT INCLINE AND THE CAR ROLLS BACK. NOT NORMAL. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO ALERTED TO A MESSAGE DISPLAY WHICH INDICATED A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. NIELLO VOLVO CARS SACRAMENTO LOCATED AT 4609 MADISON AVE, SACRAMENTO, CA 95841, (916) 488-2400), WAS CONTACTED BY PHONE. THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 03V434000 (WHEELS). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.
TRANSMISION IS STRUGGLING ON 3RD OR 4TH SHIFT, I READ ON INTERNET MANY COLVOS THIS TRIM FAILING AND BEEN REBUILTED AND STILL FAILING
A FEW YEARS AGO I RECEIVED A EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A FUEL PUMP RECALL. MY FUEL PUMP IS NOW LEAKING GAS AND FILLING THE CAR WITH GAS FUMES. WHEN I CALLED THE VOLVO DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER VALID AND IT WOULD COST $1,000.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. I CALLED THE VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND I WOULD NEED TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE CAR IS 16 YEARS OLD AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION I FEEL THAT AS VOLVO KNOWS THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT ALL CARS THAT HAVE THE SAME FUEL PUMP ISSUE THAT ARE STILL DRIVING THE HIGHWAYS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. NOTHING HAPPENED OTHER THAN THE HEAVY FUEL SMELL THAT FILLS THE CAR WHEN DRIVING AND THE FUEL CAN BE SMELLED OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AFTER IT HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FIXED BUT THINK THAT THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE SHOULD STILL BE ADDRESSED. I DIDN'T HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND THERE WAS NO FIRE, BUT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN.
RAW GAS SMELL. TOLD BY DEALER MAY BE DANGERS TO DRIVE AND PARK OUT OF GARAGE SO FUMES DON'T ACCUMULATE. GARAGE HAS NATURAL GAS HEAT AND GAS WATER HEATER. SOME CARS SOLD IN OTHER STATES HAVE HAD RECALLS, UNDER VOLVO RECALL # 220. THIS CAR HAS BEEN USED IN SOME STATES NAMED IN SUMMER MONTHS. I AM ORIG OWNER.
BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH 112,000 MILES ON IT, IT HAS A GAS LEAK TRICKLING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE GAS TANK, PROBABLY A BAD SENDING UNIT, FUMES ARE BAD SOME DAYS BUT WORSE ON WARMER DAYS. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ONE DAY WITH NO WARNING OR LIGHT, IT JUST LOST MOMENTUM AND FAILED TO ENGAGE IN DRIVE. I THINK THIS IS DUE TO THE POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN VOLVO USED. THIS MODEL IS THE T6 WITH THE GM 4T65E TRANSMISSION WHICH IS WIDELY KNOWN TO FAIL EVEN AT LOW MILES. I THINK A FULL SAFETY RECALL SHOULD E SANCTIONED FOR ALL MODEL YEARS WITH THESE HORRIBLE PROBLEMS
THE VOLVO HAS CONSTANT ISSUES WHEN SHIFTING AND GETTING STUCK IN A SPECIFIC GEAR. ALSO IT WILL DECIDE TO DOWN SHIFT OUT OF KNOW WHERE. I CAN BE DOING 55 ON THE HIGHWAY THEN IT SLAMS INTO 3RD AND I LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ALMOST MAKING ME CRASH. MECHANICS DO NOT SEE ANYTHING WEONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION IE ITS GOING BAD BUT SOMETHING IS MAKING THE VEHICLE DO THIS. SOFTWARE POSSIBLY TCM NOT WORKING PROPERLY BUT MY MECHANIC ALSO INSEPECTED THAT. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY WELL KNOWN AND UNSAFE CONDITION.
I KEEP GETTING THAT THE ANTI-SKID NEEDS TO BE SERVICED BUT WHEN I GOT IT CHECKED THEY REPORTED THAT THEY COULDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ANTI-SKID AND THE ERROR IS CONSTANTLY LIT IN THE SERVICE WINDOW OF THE VEHICLE. I CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE WHILE DRIVING IN WET CONDITIONS. IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIFIC THEY SHOULD LOOK FOR OTHER THAN ADVISING ME THAT ITS PROBABLY A SENSOR. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN RAIN.

SIMILAR TO MANY OTHERS, WHILE DRIVING OUR 2004 VOLVO XC90, WE HEAR A CLICK, THEN THE CLIMATE, RADIO AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS (IF ON) SHUT OFF AND THEIR DISPLAY LIGHTS BLACK OUT, THEN ANOTHER CLICK IN A FRACTION OF A SECOND AND THEY COME BACK ON. THIS WAS HAPPENING RANDOMLY, AND NOTHING ELSE WAS AFFECTED, UNTIL THIS WEEKEND, WHILE ON A TRIP. WE WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS, OUTSIDE TEMP IN THE 80'S, NO RAIN, AVERAGE SPEED ABOUT 70MPH. IT HAPPENED A FEW TIMES OVER ABOUT 45 MINUTES, THEN BEGAN HAPPENING EVERY 5 MILES OR SO. WHEN I TURNED UP THE AC FAN, WITHIN ABOUT A MINUTE IT CLICKED AND WE LOST THE USUAL THINGS, BUT THEY DID NOT COME BACK ON. THEN WE HEARD ANOTHER CLICK AND LOST ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTING AND CONTROLS; WE COULD NOT SEE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THE CLIMATE CONTROL WAS BLOWING HOT AIR AND COULD NOT BE SHUT OFF OR TURNED DOWN, AND WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT SPEED WE WERE GOING AS IT WAS NIGHTTIME. EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING AND DANGEROUS. WE MADE IT TO THE FIRST EXIT THAT HAD A GAS STATION AND STOPPED. THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO ACCELERATE WHEN WE GOT OFF AT THE EXIT AS WELL. I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE WINDOWS BUT WHEN I OPENED THE MOON ROOF, IT STOPPED HALF WAY AND THEN WOULD NOT CLOSE OR OPEN. WE WERE STRANDED FOR HOURS AWAITING A FAMILY MEMBER TO COME GET US AND THEN HOURS LONGER WAITING FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED. OUR MECHANIC RESEARCHED THIS AND ENCOURAGED ME TO REPORT, AS HE SAID THERE SEEM TO BE HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF SIMILAR THINGS HAPPENING WITH THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE.
TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY. NUMEROUS OF PROBLEMS INVOLVING OTHERS. NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ON HIGHWAY DID NOT WANT TO GO DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. COULD OF BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN THEY OBVIOUSLY KNOW THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS A PROBLEM
WHILE DRIVING, RANDOM MASSIVE ELECTRICAL FAILURE WHICH SHUTS OFF ALL LIGHTS, GAUGES AND ACCESSORIES. PERFORMANCE RETURNS AND THEN GOES OUT AGAIN. INEVITABLY, CAR LOSES ACCELERATION, BRAKES AND STEERING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR GOES INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE. VOLVO DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE WERE UNCOVERED AS FAR BACK AS 2004 AND HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY REPORT TO VOLVO. HOWEVER, NO SOLUTION HAS BEEN PUBLICIZED.
WE SMELLED A GASOLINE ODOR AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON SO WE TOOK OUR VOLVO TO A DEALER TO INSPECT. THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE TAKEN METICULOUS CARE OF THIS VEHICLE SO THAT SOUNDED VERY STRANGE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 108,000 MILES IN 15 YEARS. I NOW SEE WHERE THIS MODEL WAS RECALLED FOR FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT SEVERAL YEARS AGO BUT IT WAS WHILE I WAS OUT OF THE COUNTRY FOR TWO YEARS (2004-2006) ON A PROJECT FOR MY EMPLOYER. I HAD MY PARENTS KEEP THE CAR WHILE I WAS GONE AND NONE OF US RECEIVED THE NOTICE ABOUT THE RECALL. SHOULDN'T VOLVO STILL HAVE TO HONOR THIS RECALL SINCE I WAS NOT AWARE OF IT AT THE TIME? ACCORDING TO YOUR RECALL CAMPAIGN 09V-483 MY CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL GROUP, ALTHOUGH MY VIN NUMBER DOESN'T SHOW UP UNDER THE RECALLS NOW...COULD IT BE THAT THE CAMPAIGN IS OVER SO IT DOESN'T SHOW UP NOW? VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WHEN I CALLED THEM ON FRIDAY BUT ARE HEMMING AND HAWING ABOUT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT SEEMS A CRACKED FUEL TANK COULD CATCH FIRE.
VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE WHEN STOPPED AND PARKED, AND WHEN DRIVING. THE SMELL SEEMS TO BE STRONGEST AT THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED OUTSIDE. WHEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE, THE GASOLINE SMELL WOULD BE EXTREMELY STRONG AND START COMING INTO THE HOUSE. IT WAS SEVERE ENOUGH I OPENED THE GARAGE DOOR MANUALLY BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF BLOWING UP THE ENTIRE HOUSE. IT IS NOW STAYING PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY BECAUSE THE SMELL IS SO BAD. THERE IS A RECALL ON CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS, HOWEVER VOLVO SAYS MINE IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL THAT WOULD FIX THE SMELL. THE RECALL APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN SET UP BY STATE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED, NOT NECESSARILY VEHICLES WITH THE PART IN QUESTION. THE STATE WHERE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SINCE 2001 IS VIRGINIA. I SPOKE WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHO SIMPLY SAID TO BRING IT IN AND THEY COULD DIAGNOSE IT AT THEIR NORMAL RATES, AND THEY WOULD CHARGE FULL PRICE FOR PARTS AND LABOR. SPEAKING WITH A VOLVO USA REPRESENTATIVE GOT ME A BIT FURTHER WITH A 30% OFF PARTS COUPON. WHILE A NICE GESTURE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO INCLUDE VEHICLES THAT FELL OUTSIDE LISTED RECALLED VIN NUMBERS ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS. AT ANY RATE, THIS IS NOT AN OPTIONAL REPAIR, AS A GAS SMELL INDICATES GASOLINE VAPORS, WHICH ARE HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE.
WHEN STATIONARY THE CAR WILL HAVE A WET SPOT OF FUEL UNDER THE TANK AND WHEN WE COME TO A STOP YOU CAN SMELL FUEL. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK WAS WET OR DRIPPING FUEL.
A FEW DAYS AGO I BEGAN TO SMELL FUEL IN THE REAR SEAT OF THE VEHICLE AND ON THE OUTSIDE. THE SMELL BEGAN TO GET WORSE AND LINGER FOR DAYS AFTER OPERATING IT. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I DETERMINED IT TO BE THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE THAT SIMILAR YEARS AND MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR IN 2009. MY VEHICLE WASN'T ON THE RECALL SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED IN PA RATHER THAN IN ONE OF THE SOUTHERN STATES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. VOLVO AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PART BUT NOT THE LABOR WHICH AMOUNTS TO $800. THESE FUELS PUMPS PRESENT AN EXTREME RISK FOR FIRE AND INJURY AND ALL VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AT VOLVOS EXPENSE. VOLVO SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND PAY FOR THE REPAIRS OR NHTSA SHOULD FORCE THEM TO. JUST BECAUSE OF VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN ONE STATE VERSUS ANOTHER SHOULD NOT DICTATE WHETHER THEY ARE RECALLED OR NOT.

WEBSTER AVENUE, WINTER PARK, FL, 32789) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUN ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 143,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

CATASTROPHIC BLOWOUT FAILURE OF PRIMEWELL VALERA TOURING TIRE PURCHASED FROM FIRESTONE IN JACKSON, MS, ON 06/14/2016. BLOWOUT OCCURRED ON 07/03/2017 WHILE WIFE WAS DRIVING ON I-55. WE HAVE PUT LESS THAN 12K MILES ON THESE TIRES AND, NOW, DO NOT FEEL SAFE. POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO CAR (VOLVO XC90). WIFE STRANDED OVER JULY 4TH HOLIDAY IN LOUISIANA BECAUSE FIRESTONE IS CLOSED. AFTER INITIALLY TELLING US THAT THE TIRES WOULD BE REPLACED FREE BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL, FIRESTONE NOW SAYS WE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR NEW TIRES BECAUSE OUR TIRES ARE NOT BEING RECALLED. VEHICLE RESTARTS AND THEN SHUTS OFF AGAIN AFTER GOING A COUPLE MILES...SPOKE WITH MECHANIC AT DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THAT AIRBAGS ARE RECALLED....MECHANIC BY THE NAME OF ANTHONY.... TOLD CONTACT THAT AIRBAG LIGHT BEING ON WAS NOT A BIG DEAL....THAT AIRBAG WAS FAULTY SO IT WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN ACCIDENT........ 0 RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VIN.. CB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 VOLVO XC90. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE ODOR OF FUEL WAS PRESENT AND AN UNEXPLAINED WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LEAKED FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR TO RAMSEY VOLVO FOR SERVICE, VOLVO RECOMMENDED THE ANGLE GEAR RESEAL SERVICE BECAUSE THE ANGLE GEAR BOX IS LEAKING AS SHOWN IN THE ATTACHED PICTURE. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH ALL VOLVO XC90S, SO MUCH SO THAT IT CAN BE CLASSIFIED AS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, AND QUALIFIES AS A RECALL IN MY OPINION. THE ANGLE GEAR BOX IS AN UNDISTURBED PART AND IS SUPPOSED TO BE SEALED FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR. WHEN THE FLUID IN THE ANGLE GEAR BOX IS COMPLETELY LEAKED OUT, WHICH IS SOMETHING WITH NO INDICATION WHATSOEVER, THE CAR WOULD LOSE ALL WHEEL DRIVE ACCORDING TO VOLVO. WHEN THAT HAPPENS IN A SLIPPERY SITUATION WITH ICE OR SNOW, THE CAR IS MOST LIKELY TO LOSE CONTROL AND WOULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIVES. I WOULD LIKE VOLVO TO VOLUNTARILY RECALL ALL VOLVO XC90S TO FIX ALL LEAKING ANGLE GEAR BOXES SO NO LIVES WOULD BE LOST.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HOUSING AND FLANGE WERE DAMAGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MAUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V483000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED (ON THE HIGHWAY) THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF. THE DASHBOARD AND ALL ELECTRICAL SHUTS OFF, THE HAZARDS DO NOT SEEM TO WORK OR THE TURN INDICATORS, ABS DOES NOT WORK SO IT IS A VERY SLOW HEAVY STOP. THIS HAPPENED TO ME IN THIS CAR ONE OTHER TIME IN 2010, AND THERE WAS AN IMMEDIATE COMPUTER MODULE UPGRADE ISSUED.

2004 VOLVO XC90 SUDDEN ENGINE STALL WITH LOSE OF HEADLIGHTS: I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT NIGHT WITH THE CRUISE SET AT 75 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE TURNED THE IGNITION KEY TO OFF FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS, AND THEN TURNED THE KEY BACK ON WITHOUT RESTARTING THE ENGINE. WITH ALL THE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED, AND THE ENGINE AT A STALL I PULLED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, AND STOPPED. I THEN SHIFTED TO PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, WHERE IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START. THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT STOP WORKING WHILE PULLING OVER, AND WHEN I STOPPED I SWITCHED THE LIGHTS OFF BEFORE I RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE FIRST THING AT MIND WAS A FUEL PUMP THAT WAS STARTING TO ACT UP. AFTER RESTARTING I REVVED THE ENGINE UP A FEW QUICK TIMES (TO CLEAR THE ENGINES THROAT). I THEN GOT BACK ON THE INTERSTATE ACCELERATING TO 75 MPH , BUT DOING SO MANUALLY THIS TIME(NO CRUISE CONTROL). ABOUT 10 MIN HAD PASSED WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STARTED LOSING POWER AS I WAS HAVING TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR HARDER TO MAINTAIN SPEED. WHILE STILL COASTING AT 65 MPH OR SO I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, WHEN I TURNED THE KEY TO THE START POSITION I LOST ALL THE LIGHTS, I QUICKLY RELEASED THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION, AND THE LIGHTS REMAINED OFF. I QUICKLY PULLED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND USED THE FORCE TO AVOID THE GUARDRAIL AND THE DITCH. ALL THE WARNING LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED, AND THE ENGINE WAS AT A STALL. I THEN TURNED THE IGNITION KEY OFF AND THEN BACK ON, AND THAT RESTORED THE HEADLIGHTS. IT TOOK 5-8 ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE ENGINE, AND AGAIN I'M THINKING FUEL PUMP ACTING UP. EACH TIME I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE IT WOULD SPIT AND SPUTTER LIKE IF THE FUEL PUMP WERE ONLY DELIVERING HALF THE PRESSURE NEEDED FOR THE FUEL INJECTORS. AFTER THE ENGINE RESTARTED I MADE IT HOME, AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT ARISEN SINCE,
CAR MOVED TO RIGHT WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. CAR CLUNKS WHEN MAKING TURNS. CAR VERY NOISY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS/ POTHOLES.

THE CAR IS LEAKING A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF WATER MY DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOODS WITH WATER. NOW WHEN I BRAKE I CAN HEAR SO MUCH WATER MOVING BACK AND FORTH. TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE AND FAILS EVERY 50,000 MILES WITHOUT WARNING WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AS VEHICLE BECOMES INOPERABLE (STOPS AND CANNOT BE MOVED) THIS IS THE 3RD TRANSMISSION INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE BY VOLVO. EACH OF THE TRANSMISSIONS HAVE FAILED AROUND 50,000 MILES WITHOUT WARNING.
THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS WITH STEERING THE DRIVER SHAFTS THE FUEL PUMP AIRBAGS AND WHEELS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. THE GAS SMELL IS ALWAYS INSIDE THE CAR AND MECHANIC HAS SAID IT'S FROM THE FUEL PUMP DEFECT DURING MANUFACTURER. ALONG WITH THE OTHER FORE-MENTION DEFECTS .VOLVO DOES NOT WANT TO ADDRESS ISSUES BECAUSE AGE OF CAR. THERE IS A DEFECTIVE SUNROOF THAT ALLOWS WATER TO LEAK INSIDE THE CAR DURING RAIN FALL . THERE HAS BEEN A TOP CLASS ACTION PLACED AGAINST VOLVO FOR THIS . THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $700 TO $800 FOR THIS DEFECT AND $1200 TO $1500 FOR FUEL PUMP .
