My truck is a older model Chevrolet Silverado pickup HD the problem is it say engine power reduced. I have had it worked on a few times and keeps reducing if engine power. Can you tell me if there is a recall on this issue or at one point there was a recall? I have had the truck almost 2 years any info would be appreciated. I bought the truck from an individual.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS CHANGING THE OIL IN THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED OIL LEAKING WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO VISUALLY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOLZ MOTORS (5961 S 108TH ST, HALES CORNERS, WI 53130, (414) 377-3584) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 139,000.
TAKATA RECALL. WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, TRUCK SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, WHILE I WAS TURNING.I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO START IT BUT NOTHING. I BELIEVED IT TO BE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND HAD IT TOWED TO A MUFFLER SHOP. AFTER FIXING THE PROBLEM TRUCK STILL WOULD NOT CRANK. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED ONCE AGAIN TO MY RESIDENCE. BEFORE THIS I WOULD HAVE TO MAKE 2-3 ATTEMPTS TO CRANK THE TRUCK BEFORE IT WOULD START. ALSO PRIOR TO THIS I NOTICED I HAVE NOT BEEN GETTING AS GOOD OF GAS MILEAGE AS I SHOULD AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND SEEN A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH MY SAME MODEL TRUCK HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THEIR FUEL PUMP.
THE REAR FUEL TANK STRAP HOLDING THE FUEL TANK TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE HAS RUSTED/CORRODED AND FAILED. THE RESULT WAS THE TANK STRAP SEPARATING FROM THE PORTION NEAR WHERE THE STRAP BOLTS TO THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON PRIMARY CITY ROADS DURING THIS ISSUE. THE SEPARATED FUEL TANK STRAP THEN RUBBED AGAINST THE REAR PORTION OF THE DRIVE SHAFT NEAR THE REAR AXLE HOUSING. THIS CAUSED IT TO SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE AND ENTER THE ROADWAY. AFTER THE RETAINING STRAP FAILED, THE REAR PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK WAS THEN HANGING DANGEROUSLY LOW TOWARDS THE ROADWAY.
FUEL PUMP WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (VERY DANGEROUS). TRUCK JUST DIE WHILE DRIVING. HAVE IT CHECK TO LEARN THE FUEL PUMP IS NEEDS TO REPLACE. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FIND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM TO THIS TRUCK ... RECALL?
SIGNIFICANT CORROSION OF THE FUEL (GASOLINE) LINES CAUSING LEAK AND POSSIBLE SAFETY HAZARD (FIRE). SEVERAL FORUMS REPORT BRAKE AND FUEL LINE PREMATURE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION. GM NOT ADDRESSING THIS KNOWN PROBLEM.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HOOD LATCH WAS RUSTING AND THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING DIESEL FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,173.
2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL INJECTORS PROBLEM . *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS MIS-DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER NEVER CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL INJECTORS, IN WHICH WHITE SOME WAS EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ONLY REPLACED THE GLOW PLUGS, WHICH WAS NOT THE PROBLEM.
I APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION WHERE MY TRAFFIC LIGHT SIGNAL WAS RED AND I HAD SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING IN MY 2003 SILVERADO C1500, WITH NO PRIOR INDICATION OR WARNING LIGHTS. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT VERY LOW AND I COULD NOT STOP MY VEHICLE BEFORE ENTERING THE INTERSECTION. I STEERED TO THE RIGHT OF TWO WAITING CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND CAME TO A STOP IN THE INTERSECTION BEYOND THE LIGHT. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES COMING AT THAT MOMENT ON THE 4 LANE HIGHWAY CROSSROAD SO A CRASH WAS AVOIDED. ALL OF THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES WERE INSPECTED AFTER THE INCIDENT AND FOUND TO BE HEAVILY CORRODED (RUSTED), WITH THE REAR BRAKE LINE LEAKING ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM WHERE IT EXITS THE ABS UNIT UNDER THE CAB. THE MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL WAS NORMAL AND THERE WERE NEVER ANY PREVIOUS LEAKS, WARNING LIGHTS, OR PROBLEMS LIKE THIS AND I AM THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE OWNER. THE VISIBLE LEVEL OF CORROSION SEEMS EXTREME ON THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES ON THIS VEHICLE. HAD I BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, I WOULD BE CONCERNED THAT FUEL LINES COULD ALSO LEAK AND INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A FIRE DUE TO THEIR LIKEWISE POOR CONDITION DUE TO EXTREME RUST. *TR
DURING COMMUTE TO WORK ON 22 APRIL 2014, AS I WAS APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT AND PRESSED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, THE MAIN CONSOLE CHIMED, SHOWED A MESSAGE TO CHECK BRAKES, AND I WAS ABLE TO PRESS THE BRAKE LEVER TO THE FLOOR. I WAS STILL ABLE TO STOP PRIOR TO REACHING THE STOPLIGHT. I SLOWLY RETURNED HOME (ABOUT A MILE) AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK NEARBY, THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE NO LONGER ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHILE IN DRIVE. WHEN PLACED ON THE FLATBED TOW TRUCK, THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING ONTO THE BED. AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE MECHANICS STATED THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND THE ENTIRE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BEHIND THE MASTER CYLINDER. ADDITIONALLY, I HAD ASKED THEM TO INSPECT WHY I SOMETIMES HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. THIS COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE FUEL TANK (DUE TO CORROSION), AND I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TANK SYSTEM TO REPLACE THE PUMP. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO RESET THE COMPUTER AND REPLACED THE FUEL TANK ALONG WITH THE FUEL TRANSFER PUMP. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
BRAKE LINE BURST DO TO RUST. HAD VEHICLE TOWED AND FOUND ALL THE BRAKELINES VERY BAD. ALSO THE FUEL LINES ARE ROTTED WITH THE RETURN LINE LEAKING FUEL. I HAD 1 REAR BRAKE LINE REPLACED IN 2012 WHICH WAS ALSO RUSTED OUT. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 4X4 PICKUP ON SECONDARY STATE ROUTE. WHILE DESCENDING AN APPROXIMATE 6% GRADE INTO A RIGHT HAND TURN AT BOTTOM SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW FOR THE GRADE AND TURN AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE SERVICE BRAKE MESSAGE CAME UP IN THE DIC AND THE DOOR CHIME SOUNDED. SHE PULLED OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS SHE WAS SHAKEN FROM RIDING OUT THAT HILL AND TURN WITH MINIMAL BRAKES AND CALLED ME. I WENT OUT AND DROVE THE TRUCK BACK TO OUR HOME AND PUT IN THE GARAGE TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM. ONCE UNDER THE TRUCK I FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK AND FRAME AREA UNDER THE CAB AND BED OF THE TRUCK. THE SERVICE BRAKE LINE FROM THE ABS BLOCK TO THE REAR FRAME POINT WHERE THE BRAKE HOSE TO THE REAR AXLE MOUNTS WAS CORRODED THROUGH AND LEAKING. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWED ALL BRAKE HARD LINE PLUMBING TO BE IN POOR CONDITION AND ALSO THE FUEL LINES SHOWING HIGH CORROSION. A CALL TO A LOCAL GM PARTS COUNTER REVEALED THAT GM DOES NOT MAKE A REPLACEMENT SET FOR THESE LINES AND THAT A TECHNICIAN WOULD NEED TO FIELD BEND AND MAKE UP EACH LINE. LATER RESEARCH PROVED THIS TO BE WRONG AS GM OFFERS A DEEPLY DISCOUNTED UNADVERTISED LINE SET FROM AC DELCO. IN RESEARCHING FINDING PARTS TO REPAIR, I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET/GMC TRUCKS FROM ABOUT 1999 UP ACCORDING TO THE VARIOUS TRUCK OWNER FORUMS ONLINE. DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME AT SLOW SPEED, BRAKING WAS VERY MINIMAL WITH THE REAR BRAKE CIRCUIT OUT,AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF POOR BRAKE OPERATION, SO THEREFORE IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES WITH THE POTENTIAL OF INJURY OR EVEN DEATH WHEN ALL THE FACTORS COMBINE POORLY, AND AT THE LEAST, GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLE, IF NOT RECALL AND REPAIR THOSE EFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR

THANK GOD SHE WAS GOING UP IN THE PARKING GARAGE. RIGHT NOW I'M TRYING TO REPLACE LINE FUEL LINES. IT JUST STARTED POURING GAS OUT AFTER I JUST GOT TO WORK. I NURSED IT HOME AND MADE IT. THE RETURN LINE IS JUST ALL RUSTED OUT. THEN I NOTICED ALL THREE LINES WHERE ALL RUSTED OUT. IT'S TO BAD NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET I CAN'T AFFORD THIS! FUEL LEAKING FROM FUEL LINE NEAR FRONT OF GAS TANK. UPON INSPECTION, FUEL LINE WAS ROTTED THROUGH. FURTHER INSPECTION BY MECHANIC FOUND FUEL AND VAPOR RETURN LINES WERE ALL CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A LEAKING FUEL LINE COULD CAUSE A FIRE. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED TWO YEARS AGO DUE TO CORROSION AND FAILURE OF A BRAKE LINE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO THE CORROSION. CHEVY DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE BROKEN LINE, INSISTING THAT ALL BRAKE LINES MUST BE REPLACED DUE TO THE CORROSION. REAR BRAKE SHIELDS HAVE ALSO ROTTED AWAY, AND THE DIFFERENTIAL COVER IS ALSO ROTTING. THESE WILL ALSO REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. NONE OF THE CORRODED PARTS DESCRIBED HERE HAVE ANY KIND OF COATINGS TO PREVENT CORROSION. BRAKE AND FUEL LINE CORROSION ARE COMMON PROBLEMS ON THIS MODEL AND YEAR, AND CHEVROLET OR NHTSA DO NOT APPEAR TO BE ABLE OR WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION AT A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO CREEP FORWARD TOWARD PEOPLE IN THE CROSSWALK. DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL FURTHER RESULTED IN IT FADING, ENDING IN A FULLY DEPRESSED POSITION WITH NO MORE PEDAL TRAVEL AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD INTO THE CROSSWALK. PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL STOPPED VEHICLE MOVEMENT. AFTER STOPPING AND INSPECTING UNDER THE HOOD AND UNDER THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE SHOWED LEAKING BRAKE FLUID FROM ONE OF THE METALLIC BRAKE LINES SERVING THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL GM DEALER AND PLACING IT ON THE SERVICE RACK, INSPECTION SHOWED THAT ALL THE METALLIC BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED OVER THE MAJORITY OF THE LINE SURFACE. THE RIGHT FRONT LINE DISINTEGRATED TO THE POINT WHERE THE LINE SEPARATED WHILE CHECKING THE CONDITION OF THE LINE. THE OTHER BRAKES LINES ARE RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE FAILURE IS IMMINENT. ALL THE METALLIC BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER, DOWN TO THE ABS CONTROL MODULE AND THEN OUT TO EACH BRAKE CALIPER MUST BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM CREATED A SERIOUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN BODILY INJURY TO THE PEDESTRIANS IN THE CROSSWALK. WITHOUT PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL IT WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN. IN ADDITION TO THE BRAKE LINES, THE FUEL LINES SHOW EXCESSIVE RUST AS WELL. THE DEALER DOES NOT RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL LINES AT THIS TIME, BUT REPLACEMENT WILL BE REQUIRED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE TRUCK WHETHER ON A REGULAR STREET OR AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY EITHER DIES, REDUCES DOWN TO IDLE SPEED OR IDLES VERY ROUGHLY. THE REDUCED POWER SIGNAL COMES ON, ALONG WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US, SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON REGULAR STREETS. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN KILLED. I RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND THAT MANY OWNERS OF THE 2003 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY AT PENSKE CHEVROLET, AND ACCORDING TO THEM, THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN 8/2013, WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY AND THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO US. SINCE 12/2013, THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT AND NOW WE DON'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS. THERE HAS TO BE SOME WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND THE CHEVROLET COMPANY HAS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS OUT THERE. *TR
RECENTLY, MY VEHICLE HAS HAD A HARD TIME STARTING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED/DIAGNOSED. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY FUEL PUMP/FILTER COMBO AS WELL AS ALL THE INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD COST ME JUST UNDER $6000.00 FOR THE REPAIR. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION TODAY AFTER RESEARCHING THAT THIS IS AND HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE TO THE POINT THAT GM ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM AND MODIFIED THE BULLETIN TO EXTEND THE TIME FRAME AND/OR TOTAL MILEAGE, BUT THAT TIME EXTENSION HAS EXPIRED BEFORE MY VEHICLE DEVELOPED THE SAME ISSUE THAT THE BULLETIN ADDRESSES. WITH SUCH A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM SUCH AS THE NATURE OF THIS MAGNITUDE, WHY DOES THIS NOT FALL UNDER A MANDATORY RECALL FROM NHTSA? I USE MY VEHICLE FOR ONLY WEEKEND RECREATION, AND AS SUCH, I ONLY HAVE 42K MILES ON MY VEHICLE, AND FOR AN ENGINE THAT I PAID A PREMIUM FOR, I THINK THAT IT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG TO EXPECT TO PAY SUCH AN OUTRAGEOUS BILL FOR AN ENGINE THAT IS ADVERTISED AS A 'TOUGH, LONG-LASTING ENGINE'. NHTSA SHOULD FORCE GM TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY LIKE ME OUT THERE, AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT OWN THESE VEHICLES. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND TRUCK JUST STARTS STALLING OUT. GOT IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHO SAYS THERE IS RUST IN THE TANK AND THE FUEL FILTER IS FULL OF IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD. THESE TRUCKS NEED TO BE RECALLED FOR THE FUEL TANKS. I'VE HAD VEHICLES THAT HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS LIKE THIS WITH THE RUST.
