The front impact sensor, also known as a crash sensor (part # 10370150), is no longer functional. It detects rapid vehicle deceleration during a frontal collision and sends an immediate signal to the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) to deploy airbags. Located behind the front bumper or on the radiator support, these sensors measure impact severity to ensure airbags deploy only when necessary. This part is no longer available from GM or any other aftermarket distributor. It is a critical part for any occupants in a crash. I am just one of many people who cannot make safety corrections.
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT KNEE, LEFT ANKLE, LEFT HIP, AND ABDOMEN. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING OUR 2006 GMC SIERRA WAS INVOLVED IN A T-BONE ACCIDENT. SHE WAS DRIVING SOUTH IN HER LANE AND WAS CUT OFF CAUSING HER TO HIT THE CAR THAT TURNED IN FRONT OF HER. SHE COULD NOT STOP IN TIME AND WHEN SHE HIT THE OTHER CAR HER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. SHE DIED FROM BROKEN RIBS THAT PUNCHER-ED HER HEART AND SHE BLED TO DEATH AT WORK TWO HOURS LATER, THE CORONER DETERMINED HER DEATH TO BE FROM BLUNT FORCE CHEST TRAUMA.
INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT, VEHICLE DRIVEN INTO REAR OF PICK-UP AND U-HAUL TRAILER ON HIGHWAY 50 CANYON CITY,CO ,LEFT FRONT SIDE OF GMC 3500 DESTROYED ALONG WITH HOOD AREA AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER HAD TO BE CUT OUT OF GMC3500. GMC TOTALED DRIVER SUFFERED BROKEN NECK. PHOTOS OBTAINED BUT NOT ABLE TO UPLOAD.

THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF. TOOK IT TO DEALER TO HAVE TESTED. TROUBLE CODE P0084, DRIVER SEAT POSITION SENSOR. DIAGNOSTIC SHOWED FAULT IS IN AIRBAG SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE, SHOWED FALSE HIGH RESISTANCE READING. SENSOR KIT AND MODULE NEEDED REPLACED, ALMOST $600 JUST FOR PARTS. TOOK 2 TIMES AT THE DEALER TO GET THIS FIXED AS FIRST REPLACEMENT PARTS DID NOT WORK. NO COVERAGE BY GMC FOR FAILURE OF SWITCH FOR AIRBAG. TRUCK NEVER IN ANY TYPE ACCIDENT SO AIRBAG WAS NEVER USED. SURPRISED THAT THERE WAS NO ASSISTANCE FROM GMC CONCERNING THIS SAFETY ISSUE AS WORKING AIRBAGS ARE REQUIRED. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING WHEN BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE STEERING WHEEL IS TORN APART. THE HANDLE ON THE DASH BOARD, PASSENGER SIDE, IS BENT AND THE VENT ON PASSENGER SIDE IS CRACKED. *TR
IN LATE OCTOBER, 2013, I PURCHASED MY 2006 GMC SIERRA C1500 STANDARD CAB, 2WD PICKUP FROM A PRIVATE OWNER. ON OR ABOUT, DECEMBER 01, 2013, I NOTICED THAT THE "SERVICE AIR BAG" WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED INTERMITTENTLY. THE "AIRBAG" ILLUMINATED SYMBOL IN THE DASH INSTRUMENTATION AREA WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THIS WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON AND GO OFF DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. I SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL GMC/CHEVROLET DEALER FOR SERVICE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY CHARGED ME TO FIX THE ISSUE AND IT DID NOT APPEAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THEIR REPAIR. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, AS THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY REPAIR PREVIOUS ISSUES ON OTHER VEHICLES THAT I HAVE HAD SERVICED THERE. THE "SERVICE AIR BAG" MESSAGE HAS BEEN ON CONSTANTLY SINCE ABOUT FEBRUARY, 2014, AS WELL AS THE ILLUMINATED ICON IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WITH THEIR ABILITY TO REMEDY THE SITUATION AND MAY HAVE TO SEEK THIRD PARTY REPAIR FOR THIS ISSUE. GENERAL MOTORS SEEMS TO HAVE NO WEB SITE TO ASSIST OWNERS AND I MUST NOW GLEAN KNOWLEDGE FROM THE INTERNET IN AN ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. I CAN FIND NO RECALL INFORMATION FOR MY MAKE AND YEAR OF VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT, THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT ONE DOES NOT EXIST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT STRUCK A DEER. THE DEER WENT UNDER THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A TREE AT 45 MPH. THE FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE BODY SHOP. THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS INVESTIGATING THE FAILURE AND THEY ALSO WANT GMC TO EXPLAIN WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 25,300.
