WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06E050000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR), THE PASSENGER SIDE HUB FRACTURED AND WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE HUB ASSEMBLY WAS DEEMED AFTER MARKET AND THE REPAIR WAS DENIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 322,566.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL GRINDING SOUND WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE HUB WAS REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE EXCESSIVELY. A RATTLING NOISE WAS HEARD IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING OVER GRAVEL OR ROUGH ROAD SURFACES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL HUB WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS 2006 GMC SIERRA PICKUP, WHEN THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED,FOLLOWED BY THE TRUCK WANTING TO STEER TO THE RIGHT. HE INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS TILTED INBOARD AND DECIDED TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED HOME. TODAY WE REMOVED THE WHEEL, AND FOUND A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY. THIS IS A SEALED UNIT THAT CONTAINS THE WHEEL BEARINGS, AND HAS THE WHEEL STUDS MOUNTED TO IT ALSO. APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT AN ITEM THAT CAN BE SERVICED IN THE FIELD, SUCH AS REPACKING OF THE BEARINGS. BOTH WHEEL BEARINGS WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED, AND THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE WHEEL ON WAS THE BRAKE CALIPER. WE INSTALLED A NEW HUB ASSEMBLY AND BRAKE DISC TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING 35 MILES AN HOUR AND NOTICED A LOUD GRINDING NOISE THEN MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON. MY STEERING WAS MUCH LESS RESPONSIVE. I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND MY TRUCK RAN INTO A FENCE. I HAD TO CHANGE THE WHEEL BEARINGS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR

I ATTEMPTED TO PREVIOUSLY MAKE SEVERAL REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST OF THE PROBLEMS OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING. THE SUSPENSION MADE LOUD GRINDING NOISES AND AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS MADE IT WAS REPAIRED. NOW THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE RETURNED AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT I SHOULD DO. *TR
VEHICLE HAD BANGING UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S FEET WHILE GOING OVER THE SLIGHTEST BUMP. ALSO VERY LOOSE FRONT END SWAY. TOOK TO THE DEALER AND THE REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT TORSION BAR MOUNT, CORRECTING PROBLEM. MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN RIDE PERFORMANCE. *TR
TRUCK HAS HAD AN UNDERCARRIAGE RUST ISSUE AT LEAST SINCE 2007. THE FUEL AND BRAKE LINES MUST BE REPLACED AND THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION ARE DETERIORATING. *TR
SUSPENSION MADE A 'THUNKING' NOISE WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE R. REAR TENSIONER LEAF SPRING WORN OR WAS WORN AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I NEVER GOT A STRAIGHT ANSWER AS TO WHY, BAD METAL OR WHAT? I'VE NEVER TOWED ANYTHING AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY HEAVY LOADS IN THE BED CAUSING OVER COMPRESSION OF THE LEAF SPRINGS. TRUCK HAS ALWAYS SEEMED TO LEAN TO ONE SIDE AND LOOKS LOWER THAN FACTORY HEIGHT. DEALER FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. IT NOW SEEMS TO BE MAKING A SIMILAR NOISE BUT FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION AREA WHILE DRIVING OVER SPEED BUMPS AND INTO DRIVEWAYS. I HAVE TO VERIFY THIS AND GET IT BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR MORE WORK...AND TRY TO GET ANSWERS. *JB

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
2006 GMC SIERRA WITH A FRONT WHEEL BEARING BURN OUT. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE WHEEL BEARING BURN OUT WAS PRIOR TO THE TIRE WEARING OUT. GM DECIDED TO SEAL THE BEARING TO PROLONG THE LIFE. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH. ONCE HE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE BRAKE LINE HAD BROKEN AND A FIRE HAD IGNITED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE AXLE AND ALL THE BRAKE COMPONENTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. *JB
