Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
Remedy Status
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.
HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 532,633 MY 2006-2007 ACCENT, ENTOURAGE, SONATA, MY 2007 AZERA, ELANTRA AND SANTA FE, MY 2005-2007 TUCSON AND MY 2007-2008 VERACRUZ VEHICLES. THE STOP LAMP SWITCH IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY MALFUNCTION. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.
Remedy Status
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 29, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-633-5151.

Remedy Status
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI OF PUERTO RICO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-787-999-4310.
PISTON SLAP
The car loses power randomly. It typically happens at a stop light or a stop sign, usually within the first 10-15 mins of starting the car. It hasn’t happened after or while the car is driven for a long period of time. However, it has happened while getting on to the highway and while making turns into intersections. When the car loses power, there is no warning. Sometimes, it is hard to put the car into park and restart the car when it loses power. Oddly, however, when it loses power/ stalls/ shuts off, if the radio or other devices are on, they stay on. Symbols that appear on the dash when the car shuts down include the engine, oil, and battery lights. These lights also come on when you first cycle to start the car. We’ve taken the car to a Hyundai dealership and they said that they can’t find any codes, when they connect the car to a code reader.
I've had to replace the visor 3 times because the hinge will spontaneously break and the visors will flips down blocking vision.
UNDERSIDE, WHEEL WELLS, AND NOW BODY OF CAR ARE RUSTING OUT. THE FRONT CONTROL ARMS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE RUSTING. A MECHANIC ASKED WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO THE CAR AND IF IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR A LONG TIME. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN SITTING AND IS DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS FOR MOSTLY TO AND FROM WORK. THE MECHANIC STATED HE'D NOT SEEN SUCH BAD RUSTING LIKE THAT.
AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON SO I TOOK IT TO LOCAL DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THE ISSUE WAS WITH MY DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO RUN MORE TESTS TO PIN POINT THE PROBLEM. OF COURSE THESE TEST WE'RE NOT FREE OF CHARGE SO I DECLINED THEM. THEY INFORMED ME THAT NEITHER AIRBAGS WOULD DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. HOW THIS ISSUE IS NOT COVERED BLOWS ME AWAY.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS IN AND WON'T GO OFF. I AM WORRIED THE SYSTEM WON'T WORK IN AN ACCIDENT & ALSO CONCERNED THAT THEIR HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS THAT HAVE INJURED OTHERS WHEN DEPLOYED
SAME PROBLEM AS OTHERS. "AIR BAG" WARNING STAYS LIGHTED NO MATTER WHAT. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT PEOPLE ARE DISCOVERING THAT IT'S THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR AND THAT THE REPAIR IS $1000. THEY HAVE RECALLED THIS SAME PART ON SONATAS (SAME YEAR) BUT NOT HE ACCENTS. WE'RE TOLD THAT NONE OF THE AIR BAGS WORK IF THIS LIGHT IS ON. PLEASE HELP!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 HYUNDAI ACCENT. WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE DRIVER WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE AIR BAGS EMITTED SHRAPNEL, BUT THERE WAS NO TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEMICAL BURN INJURIES AND MINOR CUTS/ABRASIONS FROM THE METAL FRAGMENTS FROM THE AIR BAG. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN LOCATION. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS CAME ON IN MY CAR. DONT KNOW WHICH AIRBAGS IT IS.
PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FELL OFF UPON TRYING TO OPEN, CONTACTED MANUFACTURER WAS TOLD THERE IS A RECALL BUT NOT FOR THE MONTH MY CAR WAS MADE. (6 MONTHS AGO) I PAID TO HAVE THAT DOOR HANDLE FIXED. YESTERDAY I WENT TO ENTER THE DRIVER SIDE, SAME THING HAPPENED, SOMETHING SNAPS AND FALLS INSIDE THE DOOR AND THE HANDLE IS NOT LONGER ABLE TO BE USED . THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING DURING BOTH SITUATIONS.
I PURCHASE A 2007 ACCENT HYUNDAI AND WHILE DRIVING IT STALLS VERY DANGEROUS. I PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR MY SON AS HIS FIRST CAR. WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION IT JUST STOPS RUNNING WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. WONT START UP FOR 20 MIN OR AN HOUR JUST TO DO IT AGAIN. YOU CAN BE ON THE HIGHWAY OR JUST UP THE ROAD VERY DANGEROUS. CAR JUST STOPS FOR NO REASON WHY WASN'T THIS CAR RECALLED.
REGARDING NHTSA REFERENCE # 1088179: MY AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED STAYING ON AROUND FEBRUARY 2017. I MADE APPOINTMENT ON PHONE WITH ONLY HYUNDAI CERTIFIED SERVICE DEALER NEAR MY HOME 3-2017AND DROVE TO CHICO (70 MILES AWAY). THEY SAID IT MUST BE BATTERY AND CHARGED ME FOR A NEW BATTERY. I CALLED THEM AROUND APRIL 1, 2017 TELLING THEM LIGHT WAS STILL COMING ON AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW SEAT AND SYSTEM, NO SAFETY ISSUE RECOGNIZED BY HYUNDAI, THEREFORE I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO ENTIRE COST REGARDLESS OF SAFETY ISSUES. I CALLED HYUNDAI USA WHICH GAVE ME A CASE # 1012618 BUT SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON FILE WITH HYUNDAI AND I COULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. I AM SENDING THEM A COPY OF WHAT I AM FILING WITH YOU. I LOOKED UP OTHER HYUNDAI ACCENT 2007 COMPLAINTS AND HYUNDAI SAID THERE'S NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE A RECALL. A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR AGREED TO REPLACE ITEMS FOR MY PAID INVOICE AMOUNT ENCLOSED. I'M FILING THIS NOW BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO BE A STATISTIC FOR SEAT BELT FAILURE OR FAULTY AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAYBE HELP SOMEONE ELSE.
AIR BAG LIGTH WARNING CAME ON..
EACH TIME I PUT GAS IN THE CAR I HAVE DIFFICULTY GETTING THE CAR TO START UP. ABOUT AFTER THE THIRD TRY TO START IT GOES THEN CUTS OFF AFTER GOING A FEW FEET SO IT START AND THEN CUTS OFF A FEW TIMES BEFORE IT GETS GOING. PUTTING GAS IN THE CAR THE PUMPS LEAVER STOPS BEFORE FINISHING GASSING UP
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON WITH CODE B1517, AND B1448. SHOP IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY OR NOT. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT IT? I'VE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OVER THE SAME ISSUE. IF AN AIR BAG DOESN'T DEPLOY THAT COULD MOST DEFINITELY BE FATAL.
AIRBAG ERROR LIGHT CAME UP SUDDENLY AT ABOUT 125K MILES AND STAYS. THE CODE READ IS B1448 - THE MALFUNCTION OF PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR. THE REMEDY SUGGESTED WAS TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH WILL CAUSE EXPENSIVE $1000+. THIS MAKE/YEAR/MODEL SHOULD BE ON RECALL LIST AND HYUNDAI SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE FOR THE CUSTOMERS SINCE THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE POPPED UP WITHOUT ANY FAULT ON CUSTOMERS PART.

IN 2012 AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. FIRST FIX WAS REPLACING A PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLER IN 2012. AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN IN JUNE 2016 AT 133,000 MILES AND MECHANIC READ THE CODE: B1448 PASSENGER OSC DEFECT. SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OCCUPATION SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED PARTIALLY AND ANTI FREEZE EMITTED FROM THE AIR BAGS INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEST INJURIES, BUT NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
