I'M ABLE TO PUT MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT IN GEARS BIT WHEN I PUT IT INTO DRIVE MY VEICHLE WON'T MOVE FORWARD. BEFORE THIS HAPPENS MY THERMOSTAT TRANSMISSION O2 HEAT SENSOR CAME ON AND WAS DIFFICULT TO GAIN SPEED. I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT MY JEEP OFF AND LET IT COOL OFF BEFORE STARRING IT BACK AND WAS FINE AFTER THE SENSOR WENT OFF.
VEHICLE HAS A RECURRING PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING EXTENDED DISTANCES OR IN HILLY AREAS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BEGIN WHINING AND TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT WILL TURN ON, VEHICLE WILL THEN LOSE POWER AND WILL HAVE TO BE PULLED OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE IT COOLS DOWN ENOUGH TO DRIVE ANOTHER TEN MINUTES. AFTER HAVING IT EXAMINED BY A MECHANIC, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THE 2005-2010 JEEP PATRIOTS EQUIPPED WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS AND REQUIRES A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, AND THAT IF IT IS REPLACED WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION, I CAN EXPECT THE SAME ISSUE LATER ON.
DRIVING DOWN THE STREET MY TRANISSION WENT BAD.
ECM / PCM ISSUES. MECHANIC AT PEP BOYS TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS. BUT THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME NO, THERE IS NOT.
3 DAYS AFTER MY 10 YEAR DRIVETRAIN INSPECTION,I DROVE FROM CLEVELAND OHH TO RENO NEVADA. THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED APPROX. 10 TIMES REQUIRING ME TO PULL OFF IINTERSTATE-80 AND WAIT FOR IT TO COOL. TRUCKS OCCASIONALLY WEAVE INTO THE BERM WHERE I WAS PARKED CAUSING ALOT OF WORRY. TO KEEP FROM OVERHEATING I HAD TO KEEP THE RPMS UNDER 2500. THIS LIMITED MY TOP SPEED ON LEVEL GRADE TO APPROX. 65 MPH IN 80 MPH SPEED LIMIT AND UNDER 50 MPH GOING UPHILL. NEEDLESS TO SAY A LOT OF TRUCKS CAME FLYING UP BEHIND ME TO PASS. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP IN RENO DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS OVER FILLED ( 65ML AT 100DEGREES VS. SPEC OF 25-35 ML.).THE DEALER THAT DID THE INSPECTION IN CLEVELAND BEFORE THE TRIP SAID THEY DID NOT OVERFILL IT.. THE TRANSMISSION HAS OVERHEATED ONLY 3 TIMES IN THE PREVIOUS TEN YEARS. JEEP IS REFUSING TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE $200 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND $122 FOR A CAR RENTAL WHILE IT WAS KEPT OVERNITE AT THE RENO DEALERSHIP. MY REGULAR MECHANIC DOES NOT DO TRANSMISSIONS...SAYS THEY ARE TRICKY. SO THE ONLY WAY IT GOT OVERFILLED WAS BY JEEP AT ASSEMBLY. THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A HIGH PITCH WHRRR WHEN IT GETS HOT. THE 2300 MILE DRIVE HOME (AFTER IT WAS DRAINED TO THE PROPER LEVEL) WAS UNEVENTFUL. I TRIED TO OVERHEAT IT BUT IT DID NOT. THERE WAS NO WHRRRING..
I PURCHASED THIS USED JEEP PATRIOT ON MAY 24, 2017. I BECAME AWARE OF THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ON FIRST ATTEMPT LEAVE ON VACATION. I HAD BEEN DRIVING NONSTOP 45 MILES ON INCLINED ROADWAYS WHEN THE LIGHT FOR "TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING". HAD TO IMMEDIATELY TURN AROUND TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SOLUTION WAS CHANGE FLUID CHARGE OF $437.00 WHILE ON VACATION THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. WENT BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID A FILTER WAS BENT AND REPLACED IN AUGUST 2017. SINCE THEN ANYTIME DRIVE ON VERY STEEP AND INCLINED HIGHWAYS NONSTOP THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT COMES ON. MY LAST DRIVE ON MAY 19, THE HIGHWAY IS VERY MOUNTAINOUS, STEEP. AFTER FIRST CURVY MILES OF TRIP I NOTICE THE LIGHT. I PULLED OVER TO WAIT FOR CAR COOL OFF. TRYING TO GET TO MY DR.APPT HAD TO PULLOVER TWO MORE TIMES. LAST TIME THE CAR STALL. AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS IT MOVED.
EVERYTIME RIGHT AFTER I FILL UP MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT (CAR IS SHUT OFF WHILE FUELING) THE JEEP EITHER BUCKS ME BACK AND FORTH LIKE IT'S A MANUAL GETTING STUCK BETWEEN GEARS FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE (IT'S AN AUTOMATIC) OR IT STALLS AND DIES (CAR SHUTS OFF). SO FAR WHEN THE JEEP DIES IT HAS TURNED BACK ON.. THIS HAPPENS NORMALLY UNDER A HALF MILE AFTER THE JEEP HAS BEEN FILLED UP WITH GAS TO THE FILL MARK. THE CAR IS IN MOTION WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IT USUALLY OCCURS ON CITY STREETS SEEING AS MOST GAS STATIONS ARE IN TOWN, BUT THIS HAS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS AT A STATION LOCATED RIGHT OFF OF THE HIGHWAY.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
-REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILED. THE ENTIRE DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED BY JEEP THROUGH UNLIMITED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. PROBLEM SOLVED. -THE FRAME AND BODY BEGUN TO RUST. THE PROBLEM STARTED TO APPEAR WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. THE PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT UP TO JEEP. JEEP DECLINED TO FIX OR ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. -ENGINE STALLS EVERY 11 SECONDS. FAULTY CODE SHOWS: P2107: THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL MODULE PROCESSOR. THE THROTTLE MODULE WAS REPLACED TWICE. PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. VERY UNSAFE DUE TO LOSS OF STEERING. CURRENTLY, THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEABLE - PROBLEM NOT FIXED. 04/01/2021: ODI # CHANGED FROM 10896825 TO 10896752 AS PART OF ROUTINE DATA CLEANUP.
WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP PATRIOT IT STARTED TO MAKE A WHINING NOISE AND EVENTUALLY THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER. AFTER SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD A WHILE I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND BEGAN TO DRIVE AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEM BUT STILL I HEARD THE WHINNING NOISE. AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE AGAIN THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER. AFTER FINALLY MAKING IT HOME I IMMEDIATELY GOT ON THE INTERNET TO RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM. ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE JEEP PATRIOT CVT TRANSMISSION IS CRAP AND THE COMPANY WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT KNOWING THAT THEIR PRODUCT HAVE PROBLEMS. I'M DISGUSTED AN 09 WITH 53,000 MILES AND I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. OUR GOVERNMENT AND CITIZENS BAILED THE CHRYSLER COMPANY OUT WHEN THEY WAS AT RISK OF LOSING EVERYTHING AND THIS IS HOW THEY PAY US BACK AND SAY THANK YOU, BY SELLING US CRAP AND BEING KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE ISSUES IT HAS AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE, AND A CONDITION OF LOW IDLE STALLING HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER MY 8 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT MECHANICAL CONDITION, AND ALL REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND DOCUMENTED. IN WET OR DAMP CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE REGULARLY STALLS, OR THE IDLE DROPS BELOW A NORMAL OPERATING RANGE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER. MORE RECENTLY, IN WET OR DAMP CONDITIONS, WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP, THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO MOVE BEFORE EXPERIENCING NEAR TOTAL LOSS OF POWER MOMENTARILY BEFORE RPMS SURGE AND ACCELERATION CONTINUES. THIS IS HAZARDOUS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CROSS INTERSECTIONS, AS THE STALLING AND LIMP ACCELERATION ARE RANDOM AND CANNOT BE PREDICTED. EARLY ON I HAD BROUGHT THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALERSHIP'S ATTENTION DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD BUT THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE ALSO COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AS IT ONLY OCCURS IN WET OR DAMP CONDITIONS. THERE ARE MANY DOCUMENTED INSTANCES OF IDENTICAL OR SIMILAR ISSUES WITH ALL MODEL YEARS OF JEEP PATRIOTS, THOUGH NO REMEDY HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL, ABS, AND ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND PCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I HAD JUST FILLED THE TANK AS USUAL AND DROVE ABOUT 500 YARDS TO A RED LIGHT. IN THE PAST AFTER A FILL UP, THE JEEP WOULD STALL AND "BUCK" AROUND 30 MPH, AS IF IT COULDN'T GET INTO GEAR, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A CVT. I THOUGHT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT IT DIDN'T THIS TIME, WHICH WAS CURIOUS. AT THE LIGHT, UPON ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE THROTTLE, AND THE CAR REMAINED IN DRIVE, BUT REFUSED TO MOVE. I COULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL. A RED LIGHT IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER OF THE DASH CAME ON AND BEGAN TO BEEP, AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD LIT UP, WITH EVERY LIGHT COMING ON AND MAKING NOISE. EVENTUALLY, I LOST ALL POWER AND WAITED MORE THAN AN HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A THREE LANE AVENUE. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME A RELAY WAS ENTIRELY BLOWN AND BLACKENED, AND THIS HAD KILLED THE BATTERY. THIS WAS REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME, BUT HE SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND WHAT HAD CAUSED THE RELAY TO BLOW. ESSENTIALLY, WHAT OCCURRED WAS A SYMPTOM, NOT THE CAUSE, AND WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY SITTING, DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I ALSO HAD LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED AT 55,000 MILES, WHICH IS FAR TOO EARLY. I LOVE JEEP, BUT I HATE THE 2007-2010 PATRIOTS. BAD BUY.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT THAT HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I WAS COMING UP ON A RED LIGHT SO I GOT READY TO STOP. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN BEFORE I HAD TO COMPLETELY STOP SO I CONTINUED THROUGH THE LIGHT AND ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT GEARS. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE CLUTCH IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO PRESSURE IN THE CLUTCH AT ALL. I PRESSED THE GAS IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF THE WAY OF THE VEHICLES THAT WERE COMING UP QUICKLY BEHIND ME. THE CLUTCH WAS COMPLETELY LOOSE. I HAD TO GET OUT OF THE JEEP AND PUSH IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS SO UPSET AND DISAPPOINTED! I HAD LITERALLY ONLY HAD THE JEEP PATRIOT FOR 1 MONTH. A POLICE OFFICER HAD TO PARK HIS PATROL CAR BEHIND ME WITH HIS BLUE LIGHTS ON TO WARN PEOPLE I WAS THERE SO I WOULD NOT GET HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAD TO GET THE PATRIOT TOWED TO MY HOUSE. THE BRAKE/CLUTCH FLUID HAD MADE A PUDDLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WELL I GOT A MECHANIC THAT I KNOW TO COME TO MY HOUSE AND TAKE A LOOK AT IT. FIRST OF ALL THE CLUTCH LINE HAD "SLIPPED OFF" AND HAD TO BE PUT BACK ON. AND FOR THAT TO HAPPEN BY ITSELF LIKE THAT IS SCARY. I ORDERED A NEW CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING&SLAVE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. THIS HAS BEEN PUT ON AND THE LINE BLED. THAT WAS FINISHED UP ON THURSDAY AND TODAY IS SUNDAY. I GOT IN IT THIS MORNING AND IT WOULD NOT LET ME SHIFT GEARS. I TURNED IT OFF AND CRANKED IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE PATRIOT WAS SHAKING. I TURNED IT OFF. I PUMPED THE CLUTCH FOR A BIT AND CRANKED IT AGAIN AND IT FINALLY WORKED. I DROVE TO WORK AND ALL SEEMED FINE. AFTER WORK WHEN I CRANKED IT, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS. I HAD TO TURN IT OFF AND PUMP THE CLUTCH A BIT AND CRANK IT AGAIN BEFORE IT WOULD GO.I HAVE NOTICED HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH CLUTCH ISSUES, SLAVE CYLINDER ISSUES AND A TON OF OTHER ISSUES WITH THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT IN FLORIDA AND GOT ON THE HIGHWAY TO GO HEAD HOME TO MISSISSIPPI THE DAY AFTER PURCHASE AND EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. I PICKED UP SPEED IN THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED IT STARTED TO MAKE A NOISE SO I SLOWED DOWN. I PICKED UP SPEED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING THE NOISE AND SLOWING DOWN ONCE AGAIN. I TRIED TO PICK UP SPEED AGAIN AND THE CAR BEEN TO SLOW ALL THE WAY DOWN ONLY GOING ABOUT 40 TO 50 MPH. THEN I NOTICED A LIGHT COME ON. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN 40 TO 60 MPH I THEN PULLED OVER. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD THERE WAS NO SMOKE AND DIDN'T LOOK TO BE ANY OVERHEATING AND THE CAR WAS NOT HOT. I WAITED A WHILE DROVE TO MISSISSIPPI TOOK IT TO A CHRYSLER JEEP DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY, AFTER EVALUATIONS AND INSPECTIONS BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS, I'M TOLD I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR 2 YEARS AGO, USED FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER AS IS, WITH CLEAN HISTORY. HAD THEM CHECK EVERYTHING OVER ONE FINAL TIME BEFORE PURCHASE. NOW I'M READING THAT MANY OTHER JEEP PATRIOT OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HIGHLY SUGGEST A RECALL FOR THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. IT HAS A CVT TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS A DANGEROUS TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IF IT OVERHEATS THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY, LUCKILY NEITHER HE NOT ANY OTHER MOTORIST WAS HURT. IN 2014 JEEP CHANGED FROM THE CVT TRANSMISSION ENTIRELY, SUGGESTING THEIR AWARENESS OF THE ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. WE DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO GO THROUGH WHAT WE'VE BEEN THROUGH, GET HURT OR EVEN WORSE. I DO HOPE YOU WOULD TAKE THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY AND LAUNCH A FULL INVESTIGATION INTO CHRYSLER. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,600.
