STARTED SMELLING GAS FROM UNDER MY TRUCK. LOOKED FOR A LEAK AND COULD NOT LOCATE AT THAT TIME. THEN GOT A CODE PO 457, EVAP LEAK. THEN AFTER DRIVING NOTICED ODOR OF GAS GETTING STRONGER AS TIME WENT ON . CHECKED UNDER THE TRUCK AGAIN AND FOUND GAS SPRAYING FROM THE PRESSURE LINE RIGHT ONTO THE EXHAUST ! HUGE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD ! AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION FUEL LINES ARE VERY CORRODED AND NOW COMPROMISED. THIS IS A FIRE BOMB WAITING TO GO !
A BRAKE LINE BURST DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION, ALMOST RESULTING IN A REAR END CRASH. I HAD TO TAKE THE TRUCK INTO THE BERM TO AVOID THE CRASH. AFTER INSPECTION ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND RUSTY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALSO FOUND THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO RUSTED, CORRODED AND LEAKING. THEY ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THE FUEL LINE SUPPLYING THE ENGINE FUEL RAIL RUPTURED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION IT IS IN AND FUEL WAS SPRAYING OUT UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK,. DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO THE HOT CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE DEFECTIVE FUEL LINE IS AN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT REPAIR, DUE TO HAVING TO REMOVE THE BED/CAB FOR REPLACEMENT AND ACCESS TO IT. THE FUEL AND BRAKE LINES ARE IMPROPERLY ROUTED FROM THE FACTORY, CAUSING PREMATURE FAILURE DUE TO CORROSION AND SALT DAMAGE. IN MY OPINION, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND THIS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM RECTIFIED. THE BRAKE LINES ON THIS SAME TRUCK FAILED FROM CORROSION TWO YEARS AGO. SAME SCENARIO, IMPROPER ROUTING CAUSING EXCESSIVE AND PREMATURE FAILURE FROM RUST AND CORROSION DUE TO THE LOCATION THEY ARE IN. *TR
I LIVE IN CONNECTICUT AND I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO K1500 EXT CAB 5.3L TRUCK WITH 198000+ MILES ON IT. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN GARAGED JUST ABOUT ITS WHOLE LIFE SINCE I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. LAST WEEK MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK TO THE STORE. WHILE COMING TO A STOP SIGN JUST DOWN THE STREET THE BRAKES FAILED. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS COMING TO A STOP AND WASN'T GOING FAST WITH NO ONE IN FRONT OF HER. SHE WALKED BACK TO THE HOUSE AND I WENT DOWN TO FIND THAT A BRAKE LINE HAD BUSTED BEHIND THE DRIVERS WHEEL ON THE FRAME RAIL BEFORE IT GOES OVER THE FRAME TO THE ABS MODULE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED BACK TO MY HOUSE AND PUT IN THE GARAGE TO INSPECT IT. I AM AMAZED ON HOW MUCH THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED. SOME AREAS OF THE LINE WHEN I TOUCHED IT JUST FELL APART IN MY HANDS. I HAVE BEEN HEARING THAT JUST ABOUT EVERYONE I KNOW WHO OWNS 1999-2003 CHEVY TRUCKS ARE HAVING BRAKE LINE FAILING DUE TO CHEAP STEEL RUSTED LINES. WHILE I WAS UNDER THE TRUCK I ALSO NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE CROSS MEMBERS THAT SUPPORT THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK PLUS THE GAS TANK IS SUPPORTED OFF OF IS RUSTED WITH ONLY HALF A TUBE LEFT. PLUS JUST ABOUT ALL OF MY GAS LINES HAVE SERIOUS RUST ON THEM. MY OTHER ISSUE IS THAT THE ROCKER PANELS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAB ARE RUSTED THREW TO A POINT THAT YOU CAN STICK YOUR HAND IN THEM. WHEN IS CHEVY GOING TO GET OFF THEIR BUTT AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. THE BRAKE LINES, FUEL LINES & CROSS MEMBER CORROSION ARE SAFETY ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE DEALT WITH BEFORE PEOPLE GET HURT OR WORST KILLED. *TR
FAULTY FUEL GAUGE AND FUEL PUMP 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 . FUEL GAUGE HAS NOT BEEN WORKING FOR YEARS. DECIDED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED ALONG WITH FUEL PUMP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR UPPER SHOCK MOUNT AND THE FUEL TANK SHOCKS WERE CORRODED, CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO BECOME UNSTABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE UPPER SHOCK MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
RUSTED STEEL BRAKE LINE BURST LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKES. FORTUNATELY(?) THIS OCCURRED WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED AS BRAKE WAS APPLIED TO SHIFT TRANSMISSION OUT OF "PARK" . IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR COLLISION. UPON INSPECTION, ALL OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE BADLY CORRODED, AND NEED TO BE REPLACED TO SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. 3 YEARS AGO, I HAD TO REPLACE CORRODED ROTORS DUE TO CORROSION AS WELL. FROM WHAT I HAVE LEARNED, THIS IS AN EPIDEMIC FOR GM TRUCKS OF THIS ERA. IS GM LIABLE FOR THESE COSTLY REPAIRS? *JS
FUEL TANK LEAK ,FRONT OF TANK APPROX HALF WAY UP TANK NOT VISABLE WITH OUT REMOVAL BRAKE LINES ALSO ROTTED OUT FOR SECOND TIME. *TR
REAR FUEL TANK STRAP WAS RUSTY. BROKE OFF GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55 MPH. DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
2005 REPLACED REAR BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED THROUGH LESS THAN 40,000 MILES ON 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4X4 REGULAR CAB. ALSO NOTED DRIVER SIDE ROCKERPANEL RUSTED THROUGH. 8-2011 GAS TAK STRAP BOTH COMPLETELY CORRODED THROUGH DROPPING GAS TANK ON THE GROUND. NOTED DURING REPLACEMENT THAT TRUCK BED CROSS MEMBERS ARE RUSTED OR RUSTING THROUGH SO BED WILL NO LONGER BE ATTACHED TO ANYTHING ONCE COMPLETELY CORRODED. *TT
NOTICED FUEL TANK STRAP HANGING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION OF FUEL TANK STRAP NOTICED THAT THE STRAP HAD RUSTED & SEPARATED ABOUT FOUR INCHES FROM THE BOLT MOUNTING LOCATION. FUEL TANK DID NOT FALL TO THE GROUND BUT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE IF I KEPT DRIVING IT. NOTICED THAT GM USES A RUBBERIZED COATING ON THE STRAP. WATER & MOISTURE WERE ABLE TO MIGRATE INTO THE TOP AREA OF THE COATING AND SIT BETWEEN THE RUBBER COATING AND THE STRAP & NOT HAVE ANY EXIT POINT. THIS CAUSED A MOIST ENVIRONMENT AND OVER TIME ACCELERATED RUST/CORROSION BETWEEN THE RUBBER COATING & THE STEEL STRAP. POOR DESIGN & SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. CAME OUT ONE MORNNING TO FIND GAS ALL OVER THE DRIVEWAY. *TR
FUEL SENSOR CAUSING FUEL GAUGE TO ACT ERRATIC. HAVE TO USE TRIP METER TO KEEP UP WITH MILEAGE SO I WON'T RUN OUT OF GAS AGAIN! GAUGE MAY SHOW EMPTY AND CAUSE LOW FUEL LIGHT TO COME ON WHEN THERE IS A FULL TANK- TO SHOWING HALF FULL WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY EMPTY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 15 MPH IN SNOWY WEATHER, THE GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED AND BROKE CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO FRACTURE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED REPAIRS TO THE FUEL STRAPS WOULD BE OUTSIDE OF FACTORY WARRANTY AND REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 126, 544.
TRUCK HAD HARD TIME STARTING WHEN COLD FOR 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO TRUCK NOT STARTING AT ALL. TOOK TRUCK IN WAS TOLD FUEL PUMP SHORTED , MELTED WIRE HARNESS AND FUEL PUMP MODULE MELTED. HALF OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT WIRE HARNESS MELTED ALSO. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT THE TRUCK DID NOT EXPLODE. THIS IS TO COST $1800.00 IN REPAIRS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY REACH HIS DESTINATION. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP FAILED. HE DID NOT NOTICE ANY PRIOR FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO CURRENT RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE COMPENSATION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 213,060.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET K2500. THE CONTACT NOTICED FUEL ON THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. WHEN HE PULLED THE FUEL TANK FROM THE VEHICLE AND REMOVED THE PLASTIC COVER, HE NOTICED THAT IT HAD COLLAPSED AND SPLIT THE SEAM OPEN ON THE TANK. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE ISSUE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 82,823. UPDATED 09/13/08. *LJ THE EVAPORATOR CANISTER WAS FILLED WITH DIRT AND DEBRIS AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO COLLAPSE FROM THE VACUUM, WHICH SPLIT THE GAS TANK AT THE SEAM AND RELEASED ALL THE FUEL. THE FUEL TANK, FUEL PUMP AND EVAP CANISTER HAD TO E REPLACED. UPDATED 09/17/08. *JB
FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR STOPPED WORKING. VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR
FUEL TANK REAR MOUNTING STRAP CORRODED THRU STRAP ON OUTER SIDE OF TRUCK. BREAK OCCURRED ABOUT 1" DOWN OF THE TOP OF THE RUBBER CHAFF PROTECTIVE COATING. RUBBER COATING PROVIDED A POCKET TO TRAP MOISTURE AND INCREASE RATE OF FAILURE. FORWARD STRAP HAS SIMILAR DAMAGE BUT HAS YET TO FAIL. FAILURE OF SECOND STRAP COULD HAVE LEAD TO FUEL TANK FALLING ONTO THE ROAD DURING DRIVING CONDITIONS. PLEASE CONTACT ME TO VIEW COMPONENTS. DATE OF REMOVAL WILL BE FEB 20TH 2007. *JB
REAR GAS TANK STRAP HAS CARRODED THRU, THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN IWAS HAVING NEW TIRES PUT ON. THE TRUCK HAS 84000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOT YET FIXED THE PROBLEM CAUSE IT WAS FOUND YESTERDAY. I USUALLY KEEP A VEHICAL ABOUT 10 YRS., AND NEVER RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM . THE STRAPS SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 6-7 YRS.
