The contact received Manufacturer Recall Notification N930018. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the recall repair was performed. The contact stated that after the recall repair was completed the failure began. The contact stated that the failure did not began until the recall repair was performed. The contact was informed that the transmission line needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the transmission line would be replaced under warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 300,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE GEAR WAS IN PARK, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY BEGAN TO ROLL. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000. THE CONTACT COULD NOT PROVIDE THE VIN.
THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE IS A TOTAL PIECE OF JUNK. THERE ARE MANY, MANY VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME TRANSMISSION. IT LOCKED UP SLINGING THE DRIVER INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND WINDSHIELD. THIS BROKE THE BOLTS HOLDING THE SEAT TO THE FRAME. THE COST TO FIX WAS OVER 1200 DOLLARS. I'VE TALKED WITH SEVERAL TRANSMISSION SHOPS, EACH ONE IS IN BUSINESS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPAIR OR REPLACE MORE OF THESE THAN ALL OTHER TIMES 400. IT APPEARS THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE FIRST BEING USED. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT NO ONE IS BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE REPAIRS AND/OR DEATHS, INJURY THAT IS BEING CAUSED BY THIS DEFECTIVE UNIT. IT'S OINDTALLED IN MILLIONS OF VEHICLES WORLDWIDE. HI I WAS HAULING DEBRIS FROM MY YARD AND TAKING TO LAND FILL.ABOUT 800 TO 900LBS TOTAL. STOPPED AT CONVENIENCE STORE FOR GAS AND FOOD. PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOT, BRAKES GAVE OUT, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO WARNING LIGHTS. NO WARNING AT ALL...BARELY ANY BRAKES AT ALL. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO GET ON EXPRESSWAY?? WOW! THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO STOPPING THIS THING IN AN EMERGENCY?? I SEE GM ALREADY KNOWS OF THIS FAILURE. I THINK A HEADS UP WOULD HAVE BEEN IN ORDER??? I'VE CALLED ALL THE PEOPLE I KNOW WITH SIMILAR VEHICLES. ONLY ONE PERSON WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HE HAS SPENT OVER A 1000.00 IN REPAIRS. REPLACED RUSTED BRAKE LINES. ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT 10 MPH DRIVING STRAIGHT ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED, HAD NO BRAKES, PUT TRANSMISSION INTO 1ST GEAR STOPPED 1 FOOT FROM BUILDING. ALMOST WENT THROUGH PLATE GLASS WINDOW! I JUST CHANGED BOTH MY FRONT ANTILOCK SENSOR'S AND HAD NO EFFECT ON THE LOSS OF THE BRAKES, THEY JUST PULSED. OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2001 AND HAVE HAD TWO ANTILOCK BRAKE COMPUTERS REPLACES AT A COST OF $800.00 EACH TIME. *TR
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO. MY TRANSFER CASE IS STUCK IN 4WD ALL THE TIME WHICH HAS CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY FRONT DIFF ALSO. IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT THE FRONT DIFF WILL LOCK UP. MY FATHER IN LAW OWNS THE SAME YEAR TRUCK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHERS WITH THE SAME CONDITION. WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK, THE SERVICE 4WD DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON, SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF FOR AWHILE, THEN COME BACK ON. AS SOON AS I GOT HOME I CALLED MY MECHANIC, HE SAID HE HAD WORKED ON SEVERAL 2000 SILVERADOS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM LATELY. ALSO FOUND OUT THE NEIGHBOR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME VEHICLE (MODEL AND YEAR THE SAME). TURNS OUT IT IS A FAULTY SWITCH IN THE 4WD BUTTON IN THE DASH, WON'T FULLY ENGAGE, AND COULD SCATTER THE TRANSFER CASE. OUR MECHANIC HAS THE VEHICLE RIGHT NOW, HE REPLACED THE SWITCH IN THE DASH, AND ALSO PERFORMED THE RECALLS THAT WE FOUND IE: ABS & TAILGATE CABLES. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS INTERMITTENTLY AT NO PARTICULAR SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR REPAIRS. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE STEERING PUMP FRACTURED WHICH RESULTED IN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST. THE HYDRO-BOOST POWER BRAKING WAS INCREASED AFTER THE BRAKING ASSIST WAS DEPLETED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V005000, REGARDING THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.
I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT IN MY 2000 Z71 WHEN I NOTICED A BANGING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE AIR COMPRESSOR IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK MOVING AROUND. WHEN I DETERMINED THAT WAS NOT THE SOURCE OF THE SOUND, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A FRIENDS GARAGE WHERE WE LIFTED THE REAR AND REMOVED THE REAR-END HOUSING COVER. UPON INSPECTION OF THE DIFFERENTIAL WE NOTICED THAT THE RETENTION BOLT HAD BROKEN AND THE CROSS PIN FELL OUT. THIS IN TURN CAUSED THE SPIDER GEARS TO "EXPLODE." I PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A NEW DIFFERENTIAL, $500.00. I STILL HAVE A "TICKING" NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR. I BELIEVE THAT IS DUE TO A MISSING TOOTH ON THE PINION GEAR CAUSED BY THE CROSS PIN. NOW I HAVE TO ORDER A NEW RING AND PINION GEAR SET, $300. 74,000 MILES. 14,000 OVER WARRANTY. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE Z71'S. *NM
MY SILVERADO MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN YOU TAKE OFF FROM A DEAD STOP. *JB
TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER HIGHWAY DRIVING, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE IN 2ND OR 3RD GEAR. NO ERROR MESSAGE OR WARNING APPEARS. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT AN INTERSECTION. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN JULY TO ASSIST W/RESCUES AND CANNOT PUT THE ANIMALS OR MYSELF AT RISK. CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE; THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAVE SEEN IT OFTEN; MY PERSONAL MECHANIC HAS SEEN IT OFTEN. CHEVROLET ASKED ME TO TAKE IT TO THEIR DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THE DIAGNOSTICS RUN. $90 AND CONFIRMATION TRANSMISSION NEEDED. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PAY $2,500 TO HAVE A NEW TRANSMISSION PUT IN BY THEIR DEALERSHIP, THEN DISCUSS ANY REIMBURSEMENT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS "KNOWN" DEFECT AND CHEVROLET DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION WILL NOT DO THE SAME. IT APPEARS A DEATH WILL BE REQUIRED BEFORE CHEVROLET TAKES RESPONSIBILITY, THEN THEY CAN DEAL WITH A CLASS ACTION SUIT. *NM
MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT @ 70637 MILES . THIS CONVERSION VAN IS USED MAINLY FOR LONG DISTANCE TRAVEL. ISN'T IT RATHER COINCIDENTAL THAT MY NEIGHBORS LIKE VAN'S TRANSMISSION WENT OUT TOO. NOW THIS IS AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED ON 3/24/2005. THIS VAN HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. I HAVE NEVER GONE ON A TRIP WITH OUT SOME SORT OF VEHICLE TROUBLE WITH THIS VAN. IT LEFT ME IN THE BOONDOCKS OF MINNESOTA LAST SUMMER THREE TIMES BECAUSE OF A FAULTY "SECURITY" COMPUTER CHIP AND HAS NUMEROUS "ENGINE CHECK LIGHTS" THAT COME ON AND THEN OFF. DT: ABOUT 3 OR 4 MOTHS AGO, THERE WAS A LIGHT THAT CAME ON IN VEHICLE THAT SAID TRANSMISSION FLUID HOT. THIS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE. ALSO, THERE WAS A VEHICLE WARNING LIGHT THAT INSTRUCTED DRIVER TO PULL OVER AND LET VEHICLE IDLE. OWNER TOOK IT TO DEALER, WHO REPORTED THAT THERE WAS MORE THAN NORMAL METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN, AND THAT THE CLUTCH COULD BE GOING OUT. THEN, DEALER CHANGED FLUID AND FILTER, AND INSTRUCTED THE OWNER THAT HE COULD CONTINUE DRIVING IT UNTIL IT ABSOLUTELY HAD TO BE REPAIRED. THE OWNER CONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AND HAS HARD SHIFTING. OWNER CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, WHO REPORTED THAT COULD BE A SYMPTOM OF THE COMPUTER TRYING TO COMPENSATE FORT HE TRANSMISSION WHICH WAS FAILING. THEN ON THE 12TH OF JULY 2005 THE MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN TRANSMISSION FLUID HOT. THEN OWNER CONTACTED GM DIRECTLY, WHO TRIED TO SELL THE OWNER A NEW TRUCK, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE TO OWNER WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY SERVICED WITH SOME SERVICE RECORDS AVAILABLE. THERE WERE NO OTHER MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, PULLED OUT ON TO THE HIGHWAY, AND CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THEN, CONSUMER PULLED INTO A DRIVEWAY TO TURN THE VEHICLE AROUND, AND FOUND OUT THAT HAD NO REVERSE BECAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILED. *AK
I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS LEAKING FLIUD. THE TRUCK WAS GOING IN FOR A RECALL IN THE STEERINNG PUMP. SO I ASKED THE DEALER TO CHECK WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM. THE DEALER CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD A SMALL HOLE IN IT AND IT WOULD BE $1,200.00 TO FIX IT. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK HOME AND LOOKED AT THE TRANSFER CASE MYSELF. THE TRANSFER CASE DID HAVE A SMALL HOLE IN IT. I WAS GOING TO PUT SOME JB WELD ON THE HOLE FOR THE TIME BEING. UNTIL I COULD AFFORD TO HAVE THE TRANSFER CASE FIXED. WHEN I TOUCHED THE HOLE WITH MY FINGER I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD REALLY WEAK MEDAL IN THAT AREA LIKE WHEN IT WAS MADE IT WAS NOT MADE RIGHT. I HAVE BEEN TALKING TO GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY ARE TRING TO DECIDE IF THE TRANSFER CASE FAILURE IS THERE FAULT OR IF THE TRUCK HAS BEEN BEAT ON. I HAVE ONLY USED THE 4WD ONE TIME IN THE LAST 9 MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK THE PEOPLE THAT HAD IT BEFORE ME TOOK REALLY GOOD CARE OF THE TRUCK. I AM REALLY UPSET THAT CHEVROLET'S DO NOT LAST MORE THEN 5 YEARS.*AK
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 77,200 MILES. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL AT THAT MILEAGE UNLESS THE TRUCK WAS USED ON A FARM OR CONSISTENTLY USED FOR HEAVY TOWING. THE TRUCK WAS NOT USED ON A FARM AND WAS USED FOR TOWING (A BOAT AND 2 SNOWMOBILIES) ABOUT 10 TIMES PER YEAR.
I HAVE A 2000 SILVERADO WITH 4.8 & A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. STARTED HEARING NOISE WITH CLUTCH DISENGAGED & IN NEUTRAL. DEALER SAYS BEARINGS IN TRANS ARE SHOT . VEHICLE HAS ONLY 67,000 MILES. I'VE CHANGED THE FLUIDS RELIGIOUSLY ON THIS VEHICLE NEVER TOWED ANYTHING. I NEVER HEARD OF A MANUAL TRANS FAILING THIS EARLY. DEALER SAYS THAT SOMETIMES YOU GET A BAD ONE. *JB
