I'VE HAD MULTIPLE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THIS VEHICLE OVER 2 YEARS. ONE OF THE FIRST CONCERN WAS MY HEADLIGHT DAYTIME BULBS MELTED TO THE HARNESS AND THE ONE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MELTED THRU THE NUMBER SO I STARTED CARRYING A FIRE EXTINGUISHER BEHIND THE DRIVER SEAT. BUT ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS INDECENT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY WHEEL BEARING HUB GAVE OUT N THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO SUPPORT THE TIRE ONTO THE TRUCK SO MY FRONT DRIVER TIRE WENT FLYING OFF N MY TRUCK COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP INTO THE GROUND CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY SELF, MY FINDER, THE WHEEL SENSOR, N THE DRIVER DOOR. AFTER GETTING ALL THAT FIXED I'M AFRAID OF THE OTHER HUBS GIVING OUT. ALSO WHEN I HIT MY BRAKES IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS AIR IN THE PEDAL N THE TRUCK WILL NOT STOP. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S BC THE SENSOR GOT DAMAGED OR IF THE ABS BOX IS DAMAGE FROM CORROSION AND MY EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS NEVER SEEM TO DO ANYTHING. I HAVE REPLACED MANY OF PARTS ON THIS TRUCK N WHEN I DO IT SEEMS LIKE ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER.
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A BUMP, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S HEADLIGHTS TO TURN OFF. HE TRIED TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS BACK ON, BUT THEY WOULDN'T POWER BACK ON. HE TURNED ON THE HIGH BEAMS AND THEY WOULD WORK, THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE LOW BEAMS. THE FOLLOWING DAY HE TOOK THE VEHICLE APART AND HE FOUND THAT THE WIRE THAT FEEDS THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH AND THE COMBINATION SWITCH HAD MELTED DUE TO A T WILT FUNCTION IN THE INSULATION AND HAD TURNED BLACK, WHICH WAS DUE TO HIGH HEAT. IT COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE. HE DID THE REPAIR JOB HIMSELF, BUT HE BELIEVES THAT IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE ON ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. THERE WAS COMPLETE LOSS OF THE HEADLIGHTS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY A DEALER. *AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE AUTOMATIC LIGHTING SYSTEM AT NIGHT. REPORTED AT 2:05 AM 4-20-02 TO ONSTAR AND TO THE DEALER IN APRIL. THEY TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLACE THE COMPONENT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.
WHEN DRIVING 70MPH TURNED ON HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN FOG LIGHT POSITION, AND PUT SWITCH BACK ON, AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT POSITION FAILED. ALL LIGHTS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED EXCEPT CLOCK AND GAUGE LEVER. AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT SWITCH SUPPOSE TO STAY ILLUMINATED WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. TOOK TO DEALER, AND DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. *AK ALSO AUTO LIGHTING SYSTEM CONTROL PANEL SWITCH IS EXTREMELY HOT. *YH
WHILE DRIVING TRYING TO TURN ON FOG LIGHTS CONSUMER PUSHED DOME, OVERRIDING ONCE, CAUSING ALL OF LIGHTS TO SHUT OFF.*AKTHIS CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND RUN OF THE HIGHWAY, WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND HIT A TREE. MANUAL STATES THE DOME OVERIDE MUST BE PUSHED FOUR(4) TIMES WITHIN SIX(6) SECONDS. *JG
CONUSMER STATED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS WOULD GO OUT WHILE DRIVING, HEADLIGHTS GO OUT WHEN DOME OVERIDE IS PUSHED 4 TIMES, DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME.*AK *JG
WITHIN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE LEFT DAYTIME LIGHTS STOPPED OPERATING.*AK *JB
DOME OVERIDE BUTTON CAUSES AUTOMATIC LIGHTS TO GO OFF WHEN VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE AT NIGHT.
