TAILGATE STILL WON'T LATCH PROPERLY, DROPPING OPEN WHILE DRIVING/HAULING FAIRLY OFTEN; BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT, REPLACED BEFORE HAD ACCIDENT; WHOLE FRAME RUSTED - UNDER CARRIAGE//TIRE WELLS/DRIVE SHAFT/AROUND REECE HITCH SO I WORRY ABOUT PULLING TRAILER/HAILING. HORN HAS RUSTED OFF. ONLY 77,000 MILES AS I DO NOT DRIVE IT DAILY, JUST TO WORK AROUND MY PLACE OR PICKUP/HAUL/TRAILER SOMETHING. GM NEEDS RECALL TO ADDRESS THIS RUST ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.
MY TRUCK WAS PARKED OUTSIDE MY HOUSE AND THIS DRUNK DRIVER HIT MY TRUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.AND MEST UP ALL OF ONE SIDE OF THE TRUCK INCLUDING MY ENGINE,BABY SEATS AND TIRES AND WINDOWS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE SPARE TIRE DISENGAGED FROM THE VEHICLE ONTO THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 247,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. SEVERE CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES LEADING FROM THE ABS UNIT TO ALL FOUR WHEELS RESULTED COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BRAKES. THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE DEVELOPED A RUPTURE ROUGHLY 2 INCHES LONG ABOVE THE FUEL TANK THAT MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DEVELOP ANY BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE. THE FAILED LINE WAS REPLACED BY A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THE REST OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE "INSPECTED." THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WHERE IT PASSES AROUND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WELL, ROUGHLY 2 MONTHS LATER AGAIN DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION, AND AGAIN RESULTING IN COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE LOSS. THIS LINE WAS COMPLETELY DETERIORATED AS WELL AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST FAILURE. THE SIZE OF THE RUPTURES IN BOTH CASES MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DEVELOP AND SUPPLY ANY BRAKE SYSTEM PRESSURE TO THE 3 REMAINING WHEELS. IN BOTH CASES, THE FAILURE OCCURED WHEN THE TRUCK WAS MOVING AT UNDER 10 MPH AND APPROACHING A STOP SIGN. THE FIRST TIME I STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY RUNNING INTO THE DITCH, AND THE SECOND TIME I STOPPED IT BY STOMPING ON THE E-BRAKE AND SKIDDING TO A STOP. HAD THE FAILURE OCCURED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING A HEAVY TRUCK. THIS IS A TRUCK WITH A +9,000 LB GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT AND +10,000 LB MAX TRAILER WEIGHT RATING. IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH GM TRUCKS AND SUVS FROM THIS TIME PERIOD. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE TRUCK WAS LOCATED IN SOUTH CAROLINA FROM 2002 UNTIL 2007 AND WAS ONLY IN THE NORTHEAST FOR FIVE WINTER SEASONS OR APPROX. 65,000 MILES. THE TRUCK HAS NO COSMETIC BODY RUST AND NO SIGNIFICANT RUST ON THE FRAME OR UNDERCARRIAGE. THIS WAS A PREMATURE FAILURE RESULTING IN A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED MY REMAINING LINES, BUT THIS IS WAY MORE WORTHY OF A RECALL THEN A RUSTED TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE. *TR
THE 1ST INCIDENT THIS YEAR HAPPENED IN MARCH 2012. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN A HILL AT 25 MPH I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A STOP ON THE LEVEL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL. THANK GOD THERE WAS NOT ANY ONE CROSSING THE STREET OR ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE MECHANIC SAID THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED FROM THE METAL LINE BEING CORRODED. COST $300.00 + TOWING. COST TO REPLACE ALL LINES IS OVER A $1,000.00. CANNOT AFFORD NEW TRUCK OR THAT TYPE OF EXPENDITURE AT THIS TIME. THE 2ND INCIDENT HAPPENED TODAY, MAY 2012. WHILE TRAVELING ON A LEVEL HIGHWAY AT 35 MPH A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME FROM A GAS STATION AND I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD. I FELT A PULSE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR I WENT UP OVER A VERY HIGH CURB, OVER A WALKWAY AND THROUGH A PARKING LOT. I JAMMED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO BRING IT TO A STOP. LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND THE FRAME IS COVERED WITH BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT. ANOTHER GUY STOPPED TO SEE IF I WAS O.K.. I HAD HIM PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK. YOU COULD SEE THE FLUID SQUIRTING OUT OF 2 CORRODED, RUPTURED BRAKE LINES. HAD THE TRUCK TOWED. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH METAL CORROSION ON THIS TRUCK SINCE DAY ONE. THE REAR BUMPER HAD EXTENSIVE RUST IN 3 YEARS. WENT TO DEALER, GOT THE RUN AROUND. I REPLACED ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS WITH LESS THAN 35,000 AND THE PADS WERE MAINTAINED DURING THIS TIME. WENT TO DEALER, DEALER SAID THAT WAS NORMAL WEAR FOR A ROTOR. GIVE ME A BRK. IT SOUNDS LIKE BAD METAL WAS USED THROUGHOUT THIS TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRYING TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE THE SPARE TIRE WOULD NOT LOWER FROM THE CABLE SYSTEM. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE DUE TO THE CABLE SYSTEM FOR THE SPARE MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT HAD TO PURCHASE A USED TIRE TO CHANGE THE FLAT TIRE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IN ORDER TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE SPARE TIRE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 EQUIPPED WITH A DORMAN EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. WHILE OPENING THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR THE CONTACT'S HAND WAS CUT ON THE DOOR HANDLE AS IT DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE DOOR HANDLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE AND THE SPARE TIRE FELL FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PART THAT WOULD HOLD THE SPARE TIRE UP. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 68,000.
WITH NO WARNING THE BRAKE LINES FAILED - AND THE TRUCK HIT A TREE, GOOD NEWS WAS THAT I WAS IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE ENTIRE FRAME IS ROTTED AND MY MECHANIC HAS ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE TRUCK ANY MORE. IT CURRENTLY HAS 80,000 MILES AND THE BODY AND INTERIOR ARE PERFECT - I EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN THIS TRUCK AND KEEP IT FORE MANY MORE YEARS, BOUGHT IT IN 03 WITH APROX 35,000 ON IT. IT IS UNSAFE IN MY OPINION - THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN WITH 80K MILEAGE - I HAVE REPLACED FUEL LINE, GAS FILL HOSE, BRAKE LINES, REAR BUMPER AND MUCH MUCH MORE. I WAS TRAVELING AT 40MPH AND ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME, I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. I WENT TO USE MY BRAKES A FEW HUNDRED FEET DOWN THE ROAD AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION AFTER I GOT HOME A BRAKE LINE HAD BLOWN OUT, AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LINE ARE RUSTED VERY BAD TO THE POINT OF ALL OF THEM NEEDING TO BE REPLACES ASAP. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 9 YEARS OLD, I HAVE A CAR THAT WAS BUILT IN 1980 AND THE BRAKE LINES LOOK MUCH BETTER. THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK LOOKS PRETTY RUSTED AS WELL I THINK THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE LINES OF CHEVY TRUCKS IN THE EARLY 2000 YEARS. *TR

GM SHOULD PERFORM RECALL FOR LATE MODEL GM TRUCKS 1999 THRU 2005 FOR RUST PROBLEMS AND REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES/FITTING, ETC. WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THAT BOTH TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES WEAKENED, EXHIBITED RUST CORROSION, AND PARTIALLY FRACTURED. IN 2005, THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V129000 (STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE RECALL REMEDY WAS INSUFFICIENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE LOADING ITEMS ONTO THE VEHICLE THE TAILGATE STRAP CABLES BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A OWNER FELL ON THE GROUND AND SUFFERED FROM BACK AND KNEE INJURIES. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
THE TAILGATE CABLES FAILED CONSTANTLY. THE TAILGATE STRAPS BROKE AND BENT THE HINGES. BOTH HINGES WERE REPLACED AND A NEW TAILGATE WAS INSTALLED. *BF THE LEFT REAR TAIL GATE BROKE. THE TAIL GATE FELL ON THE BUMPER AND BENT BOTH HINGES ON THE RIGHT SIDE SCRATCHING THE TAIL GATE. THE PLASTIC SEAL LEAKED. THE CABLE WAS RUSTED. THE RIGHT STRAP HAD TOO MUCH SLACK AND WAS NOT HOLDING ANY WEIGHT ON THE TAIL GATE. *SC *JB
THE REAR HATCHBACK WINDOW WILL NOT CLOSE TIGHTLY. THIS WOULD ALLOW WATER TO LEAK INTO THE REAR WINDOW OF THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
