TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD AN ABNORMAL GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,710.
CPSC#I11B0246A. 2006 GMC ENVOY. CONSUMER STATED THAT IN TRYING TO AVOID A COLLISION WHAT HAPPEN WAS THE FAILURE OF HIS ABS SYSTEM CAUSED THE BRAKES TO LOCK UP THROWING THE VEHICLE OUT OF CONTROL. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED HE SWERVED VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT, AND HE INSTINCTIVELY STEERED TO THE RIGHT, AND THE VEHICLE WENT TO THE LEFT AND THEN TO THE RIGHT AGAIN. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. HE WAS SURROUNDED BY SMOKE THAT SMELLED LIKE BURNING RUBBER. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. *JB
I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON THE FL TPKE. IN MY 2006 GMC ENVOY ON 11/8/11 JUST SOUTH OF ORLANDO AT 9:30 PM WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME JAMMED ON THE BREAKS BECAUSE THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM WAS DRIVING UNSAFELY. WHEN I JAMMED ON MY BRAKES THE ABS DID NOT FUNCTION AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP. I WAS SWERVING VIOLENTLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE ACROSS THE TWO LANE HIGHWAY UNTIL I FINALLY GOT THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL WITH MUCH PHYSICAL EFFORT. I THOUGHT I WAS A DEAD MAN BUT I SURVIVED. THANK GOD THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND ME OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT AT 70 MPH WHICH IS THE SPEED LIMIT. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO AVOID STRIKING THE OTHER TWO VEHICLES IN THE ROAD. THERE WAS TIRE SMOKE EVERYWHERE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NOW I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. GMC NEEDS TO BE NOTIFIED AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OUR 2006 GMC ENVOY DENALI AT ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN THE LEFT FRONT ABS ACTIVATED. IT WAS AN UNNERVING EXPERIENCE AND HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I HAD THE SENSATION THAT THE VEHICLES WAS INSTANTLY PULLING TO THE LEFT WITH THE ABS DRAGGING THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO CLEARED 5 CODES RELATED TO THE FRONT ABS SENSORS AND BRAKING SYSTEM. I'M A MEMBER OF AN ONLINE FORUM CALLED WWW.TRAILVOY.COM I SEARCHED THE FORUMS FOR "BRAKE SOFTWARE" AND FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS THAT REFLECT MY EXPERIENCE. THE DEALER, DANIELS CHEVYLAND TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HEARD THIS COMPLAINT, AS WELL. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT IF THIS OCCURS ON GRAVEL, WET OR ICY ROADS THAT AN ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO HAVE THE BRAKE COMPUTER FIRMWARE UPGRADED IF THE PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN. THEY WERE NICE ENOUGH TO SAY THAT THEY WILL DISCOUNT THE COST OF THE FIRMWARE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY. SHE EXPERIENCED FAILURES WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. THE FUEL GAGE REGISTERED EMPTY WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS FULL AND ALSO THE SEATS AND WINDOWS ELECTRICAL SWITCH. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON AUGUST 11,2009 ALL LIGHTS FAILED. SHE WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,590.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY DENALI XL. THE STABILITY TRACK LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED WHEN THE VEHICLE REDUCED SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER PREVIOUSLY AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. THE FAILURE HAS RECURRED AND THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHY IT FAILED AGAIN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY DENALI. THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS APPLIED WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO VIBRATE AT ANY SPEED. IT FELT AND SOUNDED AS IF IT NEEDED TO SHIFT GEARS, AS IN A MANUAL VEHICLE, BUT WAS IN THE WRONG GEAR. IT WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH IN NOVEMBER 2006. TWO DEALERS STATED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT REFERENCED THE FAILURE, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO CORRECT IT. WHEN ENGAGING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE WOULD MOVE FORWARD AND A NOISE COULD BE HEARD. THE NOISE FREQUENTLY OCCURRED AFTER A QUICK STOP. THIS FAILURE HAD OCCURRED DURING THE SAME PERIOD OF TIME. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE, AND STATED THEY HAVE REPAIRED THE NOISE, BUT IT CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000, AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,118.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED, AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKES JERK. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE AND SENSOR, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. UPDATED 4/11/2006 - THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE STABILITRACK SERVICE LIGHT AND STABILITRACK LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE MADE NOISE WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED OR WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE SERVICED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TOT HE CONSUMER AND THE LIGHT WAS OFF BUT THE NEXT DAY THE NOISE RETURNED. *NM
