TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC ENVOY. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM AN INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO VEER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT FAILED TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 131,000.
RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION WENT WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THE PART THAT FAILED NEVER FAILS AND HE WAS SHOCKED THAT IT DID.
WHEN STARTING MY VEHICLE AND START TO DRIVE I NOTICE 2 CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS POP ON. ONE ENGINE LIGHT HAS A ARROW POINTING DOWN AND THE OTHER JUST HAVE THE ENGINE LIGHT SYMBOL AND THE MY SPEED STARTS TO REDUCE A LOT. I WILL PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SHUT THE CAR OFF WAIT FOR 5-10 MINUTES AND CRANK IT UP AND AFTER MAYBE 15-20 MINUTES OF DRIVING IT POPS BACK ON. I'VE HAD THE MECHANIC TO DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND HE HAS SAID THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS CHANGING, HAD THAT DONE AND THE SAME PROBLEM CAME BACK. SO I HAD MY OLD ONE PUT BACK ON AND THEN THE MECHANIC SAY MAYBE IT'S THE GAS PEDAL SENSOR. HAD THAT CHANGED AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THEIR. ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING, PLACED SHIFT LEVER TO PARK POSITION. ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART. TRANSMISSION WAS NOW LOCKED IN PARK, CAUSING INABILITY TO PUSH VEHICLE TO SAFETY. REPAIR BY GMC DEALER INVOLVED REPAIRING ELECTRICAL SHORT IN FACTORY WIRING UNDER DASHBOARD AT THE FIREWALL, IN THE AREA OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER MOUNT. APPARENT CAUSE IS IMPROPER ROUTING OF WIRING AT TIME OF VEHICLE MFR, CAUSING ABRASION OF WIRING OVER TIME. *TR
DRIVER HAD JUST EXITED A PARKING LOT ONTO A MAIN ROAD IN THE EVENING. THE CAR WAS COLD, HAD NOT BEEN USED SINCE THE MORNING. THE CAR FAILED TO TAKE POWER AFTER SLOWING DOWN FOR A LIGHT THAT WAS RED THAN CHANGED TO GREEN. THE CAR WAS ON AND IN DRIVE, BUT FAILED TO GO FURTHER. THERE WAS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. THE DRIVER BRAKED AND STOPPED, NEARLY CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND TO REAR END THE GMC. GMC DRIVER HAD PUT FLASHERS ON IMMEDIATELY. THE CAR WAS PUT IN PARK, TURNED OFF, THAN RESTARTED. THE GMC WAS PUT INTO DRIVE, BUT AGAIN WOULD ONLY ROLL. THE DRIVER PUT THE CAR INTO GEAR 3 ON THE AUTO TRANS, THAN 2. IN GEAR 2, THE CAR MOVED. THE GMC WAS IMMEDIATELY MOVED BACK TO ITS PARKING SPOT. A DIAGNOSTIC SHOWS THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. ONLY 94,500 MILES, AND THE GM TRANSMISSION IS DEAD. IN LOOKING ON LINE AT CERTAIN CONSUMER DATA AND SPEAKING TO LOCAL MECHANICS, ALL POINT TO TRANSMISSION FAILURES ON THE GM SUV PRODUCTS, INCLUDING CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER & GMC ENVOY. *TR
THIS MORNING, MY WIFE WAS PARKING AT ONE OF OUR KID'S SCHOOLS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM FAILED TO RESPOND. SHE ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, BUT IT WOULD NOT INITIALLY. ONCE THE SHIFTER WOULD MOVE FORWARD, THE VEHICLE DIED, AND CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD EVEN THOUGH THE SHIFTER WAS POSITIONED AS IF IN PARK. SHE HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND TO LET IT ROLL UNTIL STRIKING THE PARKING SPOT CEMENT BUMPER. SHE REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION, THEN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITH NO SUCCESS AND THE SHIFTER BUTTON WOULD NOT DEPRESS. SHE PANICKED BECAUSE OF LOOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WITH SO MANY SMALL KIDS AROUND AND CALLED ME. I LEFT WORK, AND UPON ARRIVAL ATTEMPTED TO TROUBLESHOOT WHAT CAUSED THE INCIDENT. I STARTED AT THE SHIFTER, SO I LOOSENED ALL THE COVERS AROUND IT, IN CASE THERE WAS SOMETHING BINDING THE SHIFTER. I ACTUALLY DID FIND SEVERAL SMALL ITEMS THAT HAD FALLEN IN THE COMPARTMENT THROUGH THE FRONT EDGE OF THE CENTER CONSOLE COVER ASSEMBLY. REMOVING THESE ITEMS STILL DID NOT ALLOW RESTARTING OF THE VEHICLE. I THEN LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE LINKAGE FROM THE SHIFTER TO THE TRANSMISSION HAD SEPARATED. I MANIPULATED THE INPUT LEVER AT THE TRANSMISSION WITH MY HAND AND NOTICED THAT IT HAD MOVEMENT IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, WHICH MEANT THE TRANSMISSION WAS ACTUALLY NOT IN PARK. AFTER POSITIONING THE INPUT LEVER AT THE TRANSMISSION TO PARK, THE VEHICLE DID START. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RECONNECTED THE SEPARATED LINKAGE. I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THE PIECE THAT MAINTAINS SUCH AN IMPORTANT LINKAGE CONNECTED APPEARS TO BE MADE FROM A PLASTIC. TO ME THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE SOMEONE TO POTENTIALLY HAVE A VEHICLE STUCK IN A MOVEMENT CAUSING GEAR, AND DUE TO A LINKAGE SEPARATION HAVE NO WAY TO PROPERLY TURN THE VEHICLE OFF (UNTIL IT RUNS OUT OF GAS), TO MADE FROM PLASTIC. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. *TR
LEAVING A RESTAURANT I WAS UNABLE TO PLACE MY CAR IN REVERSE OR FOR THAT MATTER ANY GEARS. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SHOWED ME A LITTLE PLASTIC PEACE THAT BROKE AND ADVISED ME IT WAS THE SHIFT LINKAGE. I REVIEWED THE INFORMATION AND WAS AMAZED TO FIND THAT IT IS VERY COMMON FOR THIS LITTLE PLASTIC PIECE TO BREAK IN THE CHEVROLET AND GMC VEHICLES. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE SHIFT LINKAGE IS NOT ONE OF MANY RECALLS WITH GMC AS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU ARE UNABLE TO PLACE YOUR CAR IN PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL OR ANY GEARS. I AM A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER AND WOULD LIKE FOR GMC TO HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE PROBLEM. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY A HEFTY FEE FOR A CHEAP PLASTIC PART THAT CAN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT, INJURY AND OR DEATH. *TR
TO START OFF, WHEN YOU GO IN DRIVE AND START TO MOVE THE TRUCK LOST POWER TO THE MOTOR BUT STILL STAYED RUNNING. SEEMED LIKE THE TRUCK DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WANTED TO BE IN 4X4 OR 2 WHEEL. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, STARTED TO ROUGH IDLE AND ALMOST CAUSED A VEHICLE ACCIDENT BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING AND LOST ALL POWER AND BRAKING & STEERING ABILITY, RESTATED VEHICLE AND GOT BURNING GAS SMELL FROM VEHICLE EXHAUST PIPE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH CODE P0014, GOT VEHICLE SERVICED AND HAD NEW SENSOR INSTALLED BUT NOW GETTING PINGING SOUND FROM ENGINE UNDER LOAD AND WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED AND MINOR VIBRATION WHILE AT IDLE. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE WHERE ALMOST FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING VEHICLE DUE TO RUNNING RISK OF ENGINE SHUTDOWN WHILE AT SPEED AND UNABLE TO STEER OR BRAKE WHEN ENGINE STALLS DUE TO THIS CONDITION WITH CODE P0014 IN CARS COMPUTER. WOULD REALLY LIKE TO BE CONTACTED ABOUT THIS ISSUE, GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL TO INSPECT THESE SYSTEMS AND PROVIDE FREE REPAIRS OF ANY FAULTY SENSORS AND PROVIDE A FULL SERVICE CHECK ON THIS VEHICLES. ON MAY 3RD 2010, THE TRUCK JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING HOME WITH MY SON AT NIGHT. I HAD TO QUICKLY TRY TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT ANY POWER ASSIST. THE ENVOY WOULD NOT START AGAIN, NOT EVEN TURN OVER. THE SHIFTER WAS LOCKED AND IT COULD NOT EVEN BE PUT INTO NEUTRAL TO PUSH IT OVER TO THE SIDE. VARIOUS MESSAGES SCROLLED BY ON THE VEHICLE DISPLAY AND MANY OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE DIMLY BLINKING. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED. I SCANNED THE FOLLOWING CODES P1516 & P1682, LOOKED UP THE SYMPTOMS ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY HITS THAT SAID THE ISSUE WAS WITH A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. AFTER CHARGING UP THE BATTERY WHICH RAN DOWN ON THE HAZARDS WHILE WAITING AN HOUR FOR A TOW, I REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE ENVOY NOW WORKS AGAIN. IT HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE CONCERNS ME VERY MUCH! I CONSIDER IT A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT A VEHICLE CAN DIE WHILE DRIVING AND THEN BE SO COMPLETELY DISABLED BY A $30 PART. THIS COULD OF HAD MUCH MORE DIRE CONSEQUENCES HAD IT HAPPENED ON A FREEWAY AS OPPOSED TO A SUBURBAN SIDE STREET. *TR

I OWN A 2006 GMC ENVOY XL. LAST MAY OF 2009 I WAS DRIVING ON US STATE 30 WITH MY CHILDREN WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR START SMOKING VIGOROUSLY WITHOUT WARNING. JUST AS THIS HAPPENED THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS AND REMOVE IT FROM TRAFFIC. I THEN TRIED TO OPEN THE DRIVERS DOOR TO GET OUT (THE HANDLE ITS SELF WAS NOT SMOKING) AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN. I CLIMBED INTO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AND MANUALLY OPENED THE DOOR, GOT OUT, THEN REMOVED MY CHILDREN ALSO. THIS INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO GMC AND THEIR ANSWER WAS THAT THE CAR SHUTTING OFF WAS DESIGNED AS A SAFETY FEATURE. I WAS DRIVING ALONG INTERSTATE 69 NEAR FORT WAYNE IN MY LEASED 2006 GMC ENVOY DENALI WITH MY BOSS ON COMPANY BUSINESS WHEN A CAR FROM BEHIND ME PULLED ALONG SIDE HONKING THEIR HORN AND YELLING FOR ME TO PULL OVER AND GET OUT OF MY CAR BECAUSE IT WAS ON FIRE. WE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, GOT OUT, AND SAW FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF MY VEHICLE. WE CALLED 911 WHO DISPATCHED FORT WAYNE FIRE AND INDIANA STATE POLICE PERSONNEL. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP. BOTH A THIRD PARTY INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR AND A GENERAL MOTORS INVESTIGATOR CONCUR THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILED CAUSING LUBRICANT TO SPRAY ONTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND EXHAUST SYSTEM IGNITING A FIRE. GENERAL MOTORS HAS ADMITTED TO ME THAT THIS IS A DEFECT I COULD NOT POSSIBLY KNOWN ABOUT NOR WAS IT MY FAULT IN ANY WAY. GENERAL MOTORS WANTS TO "REPAIR" THE VEHICLE AND PUT ME BACK IN IT. I'VE TOLD THEM MY LIFE AND MY BOSS'S LIFE WERE AT STAKE BECAUSE OF THIS FIRE WHICH IF NO ONE HAD WARNED ME ABOUT AS I WAS DRIVING, THE CONSEQUENCE COULD HAVE BEEN TWO FATALITIES AS I DID NOT KNOW THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE AS I DROVE ALONG THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE HAD MY GMC ENVOY INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS FOR A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS JUST A FLAW IN THE DESIGN BUT IT IS A VERY ANNOYING FLAW. THE NOISE IS A CONSTANT SQUEAL THAT ONLY GOES AWAY IF I TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF OVERDRIVE.
