The contact owns a 2006 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The failure occurred on three separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with fuel pump and fuel pump sensor failure. The fuel pump and fuel pump sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 270,319.
AT EVERY FILLUP WE CAN SMELL GAS LIKE THERE IS A FUEL LEAK. I HAD A SHOP DO A FOG TEST AND THEY CONFIRMED A LEAK "SOMEWHERE FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK". THE TANK WOULD NEED TO BE DROPPED TO VISUALLY INSPECT AT A COST OF $400-$500 JUST FOR THE DROPPING OF THE TANK. THEN THERE WOULD BE ADDED COSTS TO REPAIR WHATEVER IS CAUSING THE LEAK AND SMELL OF GAS. AFTER HEARING THAT I CAME HOME TO START MY SEARCHING FOR RECALLS & SAFETY NOTICES TO FIND THAT GM HAD A NOTICE ISSUED AS WELL AS THE NHTSA, BUT IT SEEMS THEY CUT THE YEAR OFF AT 2004 & 120,000 MILES. ACCORDING TO THE THREAD BELOW, IT APPEARS THIS WAS EXTENDED TO VEHICLE UNDER 150,000 MILES WHICH WE ARE WELL UNDER, BUT WE DON'T HAVE A 2002-2004 MODEL. INVESTIGATION # DP10001: THE PETITIONER ALLEGES THAT THE FUEL TANK LEVEL SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND COULD RESULT IN A SUBJECT VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, STALL, AND BEING REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. GAS LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY EVEN AFTER FILLING CAR UP. DAUGHTER WAS PUT IN DANGER BECAUSE WHEN FIRST STARTED COULDNT TELL HOW MUCH FUEL WAS IN TANK AND RAN OUT OF GAS WHILE DRIVING FROM WORK ON BUSY CITY STREET.
FUEL GAUGE DOESN'T WORK.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER PUTTING FUEL IN AND FUEL GAUGE SUDDENLY SHOWS EMPTY AND MY VEHICLE STALLED. THE FUEL GUAGE WOULD THEN SHOW FULL AT TIMES THEN EMPTY. NOW IT SHOWS EMPTY ALL THE TIME AND HAS STALLED 3 MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC.
INITIALLY, WHEN THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH FUEL, THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD AUTOMATICALLY GO TO EMPTY AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL MILES, THE GAUGE WOULD CORRECT ITSELF AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. AFTER MONTHS OF THIS, THE SYSTEM DOES NOT CORRECT ITSELF AND I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE - IT CONSTANTLY GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY.
INITIALLY, WHEN THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH FUEL, IT IMMEDIATELY INDICATED THAT THE CAR WAS EMPTY AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ONCE YOU USED A COUPLE OF GALLONS THE FUEL GAUGE BEGAN WORKING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. JUST RECENTLY THE SYSTEM IS NOT CORRECTING ITSELF AND THE FUEL GAUGE WILL CONSTANTLY GO BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY SO I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE IN IT. ALSO THE ENGINE LIGHT IS REMAINING ON.
HI, I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS METER ON MY GMC ENVOY 2006. IT HAS 38,000 MILES. THE GAS GAUGE SHOWS THAT THE GAS TANK IS EMPTY EVEN THOUGH I FILL IT UP. WHEN I START THE ENGINE THE GAUGE GOES SHOWS THAT THE TANK IS FULL, AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING IT GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO EMPTY AND I GET THE SIGNAL THAT THE TANK IS EMPTY. MY CONCERN IS ABOUT IF THERE IS ANY RECALL ON THAT BECAUSE IT ONLY HAS 38,000 MILES. I WAS ALSO CHECKING ONLINE AND FOUND A LOT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MATTER BECAUSE IT IS A SIGN OF A DEFECTED PART. VOSS CHEVROLET, DAYTON, OHIO, RETURNED MY ENVOY TO ME ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2015 WITHOUT REPAIR OF A DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION THREATENING SERIOUS INJURY TO ME OR OTHERS. IT IS A SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OCCURRING OVER SEVEN TIMES SPORADICALLY FROM JULY THRU AUGUST 2015 AS I HAVE SLOWED TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC INTERSECTION AND ALSO WHEN PULLING HEAD -IN TO PARKING SPACES. IT CAN ONLY BE STOPPED BY ABRUPTLY SWITCHING FROM DRIVE GEAR TO PARK OR NEUTRAL. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE FOR JUST OVER 5 YEARS OF A 12- YEAR PERIOD WHILE ALSO DRIVING MY NON-GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLE. AS WELL, I HAVE DRIVEN A NEWLY PURCHASED VEHICLE SINCE APRIL 2014. I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER THE PAST 51 YEARS. I BOUGHT THE 2006 ENVOY FROM VOSS CHEVROLET AS A CERTIFIED VEHICLE,32,000 MILES, IN APRIL 2010. VOSS ELECTRONIC MONITORING CONFIRMED THE FACT THAT THE HIGH SPEED ACCELERATION ACTUALLY OCCURRED WHILE BRAKING, BUT THEY STATED WHEN THEIR SERVICE PERSON KEPT AND DROVE THE VEHICLE IT DID NOT OCCUR. GM (TAC) ADVISED THEM UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WAS "IMPOSSIBLE AND THE ONLY ANSWER" IS THAT I MUST BE USING TWO- FEET, HOLDING THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR DOWN SIMULTANEOUSLY. (THE VOSS ELECTRONIC CAMERA MONITOR THEY HAD GIVEN ME HAD SHOWN AN ACCELERATION EQUIVALENT TO ""80 MILES PER HOUR WHILE BRAKING OCCURRED! THAT IS ALSO DOCUMENTED.) FILLED SUV UP AT GAS STATION. GAS GAUGE WENT TO FULL. PROCEEDED OUT OF GAS STATION WHEN THE GAS GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY, GAS GAUGE WILL NOW NOT STAY IN ONE PLACE, CONTINUES TO ACT UP AND MOSTLY STAYS ON EMPTY AND THE BELL RINGS CONSTANTLY. I AM UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE AND CONCERNED THAT THE SUV WILL THINK ITS OUT OF GAS AND SHUT OFF.

IT TOOK ABOUT 5 MINUTES BUT THE MILEAGE AND GAS HAND WENT BACK UP TO WHERE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. THIS MORNING I FILLED THE TANK UP AND NOW THE COMPUTER IS READING LOW FUEL AND THE GAS HAND IS BELOW THE RED LINE. ALSO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT A QUARTER TANK OF FUEL REMAINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,775 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 138,963.

I SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THESE CARS ABOUT THE SAME THING I HAVE GOING ON. MY GAS GAUGE WONT WORK. I BROUGHT MY CAR FOR THE RECALL FOR THE DRIVERS DOOR LAST YEAR AND NOW MY KEYS WON'T UNLOCK THE DOORS. ONLY THE REMOTE WILL OPEN IT.
